A new species, Helicoma barretoi, collected on dead twigs in Paraíba State of northeastern Brazil, is described and illustrated. It is distinguished by frequent branched conidiophores, cylindrical conidiogenous cells constricted at basal septa, and broad terminal denticles.

We describe a new species of flea-toad related to Brachycephalus didactylus and B. hermogenesi from the Serra Bonita mountain, an Atlantic rainforest remnant in the Municipality of Camacan, State of Bahia, northeastern Brazil, constituting the northernmost record of the genus. Brachycephalus pulex sp. nov. is mainly diagnosed by the toe II externally absent, the toe V vestigial, fingers I and IV externally absent, and an inverted depigmented v-shaped mark on chest bordered above by a dark brown stripe on each side.

A new species of Aparasphenodon is described from patches of arboreal restinga within the Atlantic Forest Biome, in a region known as Baixo Sul in southern Bahia, northeastern Brazil. Aparasphenodon arapapa sp. nov. is promptly diagnosed from other Aparasphenodon mainly by having small size (male snout-vent length 57.4–58.1 mm), loreal region flattened and wide, and canthus rostralis rounded and poorly elevated. The wide and flattened snout resembles that found in Triprion and Diaglena, and possibly is a parallelism (homoplasy) related to the phragmotic behavior of casque-headed tree frogs to their microhabitat usage. The decision to allocate the new species in the genus Aparasphenodon is discussed in detail, as the single morphological synapomorphy of the genus, the presence of a prenasal bone, is insufficient to morphologically relate the new species to Aparasphenodon, Triprion, or Diaglena.

In this study, Aphanomyces brasiliensis is proposed as a new species. It was collected from soil and water samples of a trout farming system located in Atlantic Rainforest areas, São Paulo State, Brazil. This species is mainly characterized by the presence of commonly short and unbranched oogonial stalks, antheridia usually androgynous and monoclinous with clavate, bell-shaped or cylindrical antheridial cells. We also collected Aphanomyces helicoides, A. raphani and A. stellatus from samples of submerged leaves, surface sediment and water in freshwater bodies. All species were isolated growing on cellulosic and/or keratinous substrates used as bait. Phylogenetic analysis of the ITS (rDNA) region showed that the new species and the other Brazilian isolates clustered within the Aphanomyces clade.

A new species of Eugenia from the Atlantic rainforest of Rio Grande do Norte is described as Eugenia pipensis. The species is close to E. astringens, but differs by having calyx lobes 2.5 to 3 mm long and glandulose-verruculose fruits.

Zanthoxylum unifoliolatum Groppo & Pirani (Rutaceae), a new species from northeastern Brazil is here described and illustrated. To date, this species is known from a small number of collections from the state of Sergipe and considered endangered, given its restricted geographical distribution and the rapid deforestation of the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest. Z. unifoliolatum can be readily distinguished from other Brazilian Zanthoxylum by its unifoliolate leaves, rather than pinnate leaves present in other Brazilian species of the genus A detailed description and illustrations of this new species are provided, as well as comments on the geographic distribution, phenology, generic relationships and conservation status. Additionally, a key to the species of Zanthoxylum from Northeastern Region of Brazil is provided.

A new species of Asclepiadoideae (Apocynaceae) with enigmatic taxonomic position was found in the Atlantic rainforest of Rio de Janeiro State, southeastern Brazil. To ascertain its affinities within the Asclepiadeae, we performed phylogenetic analyses using the plastid regions trnT-L and rps16. Our results strongly support the new species close to the Orthosiinae, but do not support any generic relationship for this species. Based on the floral morphology, especially the corona lobes, which are highly fused, and curved inward at the top, covering the gynostegium, the new species is assigned to Monsanima. This genus is sister to the other Orthosiinae and included so far only one species narrowly endemic to the campos rupestres of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil. The new species, Monsanima tinguaensis, occurs in a protected area, Tinguá Biological Reserve. However, it is known only by the type specimen and is probably vulnerable to extinction.

Dichotomius valoisae new species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Dichotomiini) from Santa Luzia do Itanhi, Sergipe, Brazil, is described based on external differences from its congeners. Diagnostic characters and a brief discussion about its conservation status are provided, as well as an updated identification key to the Dichotomius sericeus (Harold) species group.
