Sepakung Village is included in a landslide-prone area in Semarang Regency, Central Java. The purpose of this study was to analyze the preparedness of the Sepakung Disaster Risk Reduction Forum. The research method used is quantitative with descriptive percentage analysis technique. The population of this study were members of the Sepakung FPRB. The sampling technique used is total sampling. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, and documentation. The results of data processing show that the knowledge of the landslide risk of the FPRB Sepakung is quite good. This is shown by the average descriptive percentage score reaching 78.409091%. The experience of the Sepakung FPRB is not good with an average score of 65.0909091%. The attitude of the respondent's vigilance is included in the good category with a descriptive score of the percentage reaching 85%. The level of preparedness of the Sepakung FPRB is in the good category with an average score of 76.931818%. This condition also illustrates the concept of an effective Disaster Resilient Village to form FPRB preparedness. Keywords: disaster risk reduction forum, landslide, disaster, preparedness.

Abstract Introduction: Magelang Regency is one of the areas on the slopes of Merapi Mountain with the greatest disaster risk is volcanic eruptions. Dukun Village is one of the volcanic disaster-prone areas located approximately 8 km from the top of the mountain and included as Disaster Risk Area III in Magelang Regency. In the eruption on 2010 most of the Dukun community evacuated to other districts avoiding the hot clouds. The volcano in Magelang was on alert status from May 21, 2018. Within a period of 1.5 years, several volcanoes emitted volcanic ash and earthquakes. Under these circumstances, the risk of disaster in the community is very high, especially those in the Disaster Risk Area III of Merapi Mountain. Community based disaster management needs to be improved, especially in preparation for disaster preparedness. Method: the type of this research is descriptive quantitative, with a field survey analysis method using a questionnaire about the community preparedness at Dukun Village in Disaster Risk Area III dealing with disasters. Results: The results showed the community analysis of disaster risk in the Dukun village was a volcanic eruption with a percentage of 96% of the community, source of information obtained by the community about the disaster 89% showed from village officials, as many as 74% of families had participated in the socialization of the disaster but the majority were only the family heads, as much as 66% have sought disaster risk reduction and as many as 33.5% of the community if there is a plan to evacuate siblings. Family preparedness in preparing first aid kits was still very low. Conclusion: The Dukun Village community has realized that being in a disaster-prone area, at present the majority of families have participated in preparedness socialization but in disaster risk reduction and preparation is still lacking.

Background: The Philippines has been classified as highly vulnerable to natural disasters. Hence, reinforcing the capacities of communities towards the risk and adverse impacts of natural hazards is essential in order to reduce vulnerability and manage disasters. The study assessed disaster-related knowledge including (1) disaster preparedness and readiness, (2) disaster adaptation, (3) disaster awareness, and (4) disaster risk perception of the local people in a selected community. Methods: A descriptive-cross sectional study was utilized and a convenience sampling technique was used to select the 60 participants. The disaster risk reduction knowledge was assessed using the Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge questionnaire. The gathered data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and univariate linear regression. Results: The study revealed that the local people in the selected community have good knowledge on disaster preparedness and readiness, disaster adaptation, and disaster awareness and fair knowledge on disaster-related knowledge and disaster risk perception. Further, age, sex, civil status, and education did not predict the level of disaster risk reduction knowledge. Conclusion: The initiatives for disaster education in the Philippines are sufficient as evidenced by a good level of disaster risk reduction knowledge among the local people in the selected community.

Landslides are one of the natural disasters that often occur in Indonesia. Throughout 2019, Indonesia experienced 1483 landslides. Indonesian people need to have preparedness in dealing with disasters. Sepakung village is included in a landslide-prone area in Semarang regency, Central Java. This study aims to analyze the preparedness of the people of Sepakung village who live around landslide-prone points. The research method used is quantitative with a descriptive percentage analysis technique. The population of this research is the residents of Sepakung village. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Data collection techniques using observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The data processing results show that the experience of dealing with landslides for the residents of Sepakung village is quite good. This is shown from the average descriptive percentage score reaching 65.909091. The attitude of the respondent's vigilance is included in the very good category, with a descriptive score of the percentage getting 85%. All respondents in this study agreed that awareness of landslides needs to be increased during the rainy season. Knowledge of landslides that are owned needs to be increased again, especially for knowledge about the signs of landslides, disaster mitigation, early warning systems, and evacuation routes. Landslides have occurred in various places in Indonesia. Likewise with West Java, there were many regions that has experienced repeated landslides. Having many experience of occurrences of landslides, we should have had a good landslide risk reduction program. Indeed, the incidence of landslides depends on many variables. Due to that condition, it may that a region would have different variable with another region. So it is impossible to generalize the implementation of a mitigation technology for all areas prone to landslides. Research of the Cililin's landslide is to anticipate the next disasters that may happen in around the area of 2013 Cililin Landslide. Through observation lithological conditions, water condition, land cover and landscape, as well as consideration of wide dimension of the building footing, the distance of building to the slopes and so forth, it has been determined some efforts of disaster risk reduction in the area around the landslide against the occurrence of potential landslide in the future.Bencana tanah longsor telah terjadi di berbagai tempat di Indonesia. Demikian halnya dengan Jawa Barat, tidak sedikit daerahnya telah berulang kali mengalami longsor. Seharusnya dengan telah banyaknya kejadian longsor, kita mampu mengupayakan program penurunan risiko longsor secara baik. Memang kejadian longsor bergantung pada banyak variabel, dimana dari satu daerah dengan daerah yang lain akan sangat memungkinkan mempunyai variabel yang berbeda, sehingga tidak mungkin kita membuat generalisasi penerapan suatu teknologi mitigasinya untuk semua daerah rawan longsor. Penelitian longsor di Cililin dilakukan untuk mengantisipasi terjadinya bencana di sekitar daerah Longsor Cililin 2013 yang lalu. Melalui pengamatan kondisi litologi, keairan, tutupan lahan dan bentang alam yang ada, serta pertimbangan akan dimensi luas pijakan bangunan, jarak batas bangunan dengan lereng dan lain sebagainya, telah ditentukan beberapa upaya penurunan risiko bencana di daerah sekitar longsor terhadap potensi kejadian longsor dimasa mendatang.Keywords: Landslide, risk reduction, footing of building, Cililin

Disaster risk reduction is an ever-growing concept and finds its application within various disciplines. This article investigates the development of disaster risk reduction and some of the most important aspects which shaped it. The early years of international disaster relief are discussed and it is shown how a change in this system was necessitated by a variety of factors and international disasters, which exposed its weakness. The article argues that disaster relief and development aid were inextricably linked and it is this linkage which provided a catalyst for questioning the manner in which relief, and development assistance, were provided. The later emphasis on disaster preparedness and management is discussed, and international policies and mechanisms, which contributed to a gradual shift in focus towards disaster risk reduction, enjoy attention. The article concludes that solutions to disaster risks lie within a rigorous trans- disciplinary focus.

Simple observation of events for the disaster in Indonesia is almost always showed the same picture is a condition in which reactive attitude and spontaneous, unplanned as shown by society and government. There is a general tendency that people do not know how to act or addressing disaster. Regional preparedness in the face of natural disasters is very important. Slamet mountain with an altitude of 3,428 meters above sea level is the highest mountain in Central Java and the second highest in Java. Population data in the area of Mount Slamet and surrounding areas are included in Kawasan Rawan Bencana (disaster-prone areas) is approximately 215 953 inhabitants. Seeing the extent of the area affected by the eruption of Mount Slamet threats can not be taken lightly. This study aimed to explore the networking model for effective disaster risk reduction in disaster-prone areas of Mount Slamet. Networking model for disaster risk reduction is a very important information in order to overcome the impact of the eruption of Mount Slamet.

The author provides a robust discussion of an ethnographic case study to facilitate creative thinking about how to use communications and social media technology to build resilience and improve citizen disaster preparedness through a “Be Ready” trivia campaign. This research can inform strategies to achieve several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction's Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR). Future research directions include a new community resilience index that measures citizens' use of communications and social media technology. Implications for social change include raising the level of public awareness and facilitating a means to improve personal responsibility for disaster preparedness through low cost education programs. This could improve efforts by government and non-government organizations to improve disaster risk reduction; increase access to information and communication technology; increase disaster emergency planning and response; and build resilient communities.

Students would be one of the most vulnerable groups during the disaster.ProblemThe low-level of School-Based Disaster Preparedness/Sekolah Siaga Bencana (SSB) of students’ preparedness in disaster risk reduction (DRR) can lead to increased vulnerability of students in facing disaster threats, especially a tsunami.MethodsThe study employed observational, correlative analytics with a cross-sectional approach. This chapter introduces some myths of health promotion, the project cycle of health and disaster preparedness education programmes, needs assessment, project planning, programme implementation and monitoring, programme evaluation, and notes for organizers and participants of health and disaster preparedness education programmes. Concrete examples will be provided to put the abstract framework into use. This chapter integrates the themes in previous chapters with relevant insights gained from actual field experience in Asia, focusing on programme implementation field experience and lessons learnt, as well as the practical challenges and problems encountered in the field in rural Asian settings. It will also discuss the field-policy nexus, that is, the fulfilment of policy ambitions in such international policy frameworks like the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030), and the Paris Agreement for Climate Change by rural field programmes in health, emergency, and disaster risk reduction.

Gender sensitization is a theory that a maximum number of policy analysts discover easy to implement, but very few perform well. The same can be said about disaster risk reduction. When these two concerns are put together to mainstream gender into disaster risk reduction (DRR), concerned organizations and experts find gaps in planning and implementation of policies. This is not because the job is integrally challenging; rather, there is not adequate practical guidance and pragmatic information. This paper aims to increase awareness about gender issues in disaster risk reduction, to improve government capability to address gender problems in DRR and to encourage Pakistan’s government to incorporate gender perception into DRR legislatures, strategies and plans for sustainable development. The importance of the Beijing Agenda for global action on gender sensitive DRR and the Manila Declaration for Global Action on gender in climate change and DRR have been highlighted, with the help of information from other developing countries, to develop a road map for Pakistan. Capacity development and gender-aware knowledge products are the two main areas with the help of which concerns regarding gender sensitivity can be addressed in disaster preparedness, recovery and rehabilitation.
