Background: Cardiovascular complication remains the long-term complications in spondyloarthritis (SpA). Previous studies revealed that metabolicsyndrome is the risk factor of cardiovascular in SpA patients. Previous studies also revealed that the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome is 34.9–45.7% in SpA patients. However, previous studies also revealed the controversy of the correlation of SpA’ disease activity with metabolic syndrome.Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the correlation of SpA’ radiographical damage measured with a modified Stoke Ankylosing SpondylitisSpinal Score (mSASSS) score with metabolic syndrome in SpA patients, which routinely visited Rheumatology Outpatient Department in Dr. SoetomoGeneral Hospital. Methods: An observational study with cross-sectional design with consecutive sampling technique was conducted in July–October 2018. All SpApatients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were included in this study. Data analysis was performed with SPSS v21.0.Results: There were 33 SpA patients (10 males and 23 females) included in this study. The average age was 48.18±12.27 years-old. The averagemSASSS score was 24,36 (K:0.93, p:0.00). Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed in 54.5% patients with 100% patients had central obesity, 66.7% hadincreased blood pressure, 61.5% had impaired fasting glucose, 55.6% had increased triglycerides, and 77.8% had decreased high-density lipoproteincholesterol. Positive correlation between mSASSS score and metabolic syndrome was observed (r:0.510, p:0.002).Conclusion: A correlation between SpA disease activity measured with mSASSS score and metabolic syndrome was observed. Therefore, routinemetabolic syndrome screening is strongly suggested for SpA patients.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate omeprazole prescriptions for older adults based on the Beers Criteria, with an analysis of indications and duration of use longer than eight weeks. METHODS: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, data were collected from the electronic medical records of older adults with an omeprazole prescription seen at two health care units in Curitiba, Brazil, between June and August 2019. Data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, Student t and χ2 tests. RESULTS: Medical records of 386 patients were analyzed, and 69.95% were female. The mean age was 71 (SD, 8.15) years. Most patients had incomplete primary education (50.52%) and income level ranging from one to two Brazilian minimum monthly wages (39.90%). No indication for omeprazole prescription was found in 23.83% of medical records. Use longer than eight weeks was predominant for all indications in 96.60% of medical records. Duration of use more extended than the Beers Criteria recommendation was independent of sex (p = 0.327), education (p = 0.805), and income level (p = 0.629). A relationship between polypharmacy and long-term drug use was demonstrated (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest the need for periodic review of omeprazole prescriptions considering deprescribing when they appropriate.

AbstractObjectiveTo examine whether television viewing, computer game playing or book reading during meals predicts meal skipping with the aim of watching television, playing computer games or reading books (media meal skipping).DesignA cross-sectional study was conducted using a standardized self-administered questionnaire. Analyses were controlled for age, gender and BMI.SettingData were obtained from a random sample of adolescents in Flanders, Belgium.SubjectsSeven hundred and ten participants aged 12, 14 and 16 years.ResultsOf the participants, 11·8 % skipped meals to watch television, 10·5 % skipped meals to play computer games and 8·2 % skipped meals to read books. Compared with those who did not use these media during meals, the risk of skipping meals in order to watch television was significantly higher for those children who watched television during meals (2·9 times higher in those who watched television during at least one meal a day). The risk of skipping meals for computer game playing was 9·5 times higher in those who played computer games weekly or more while eating, and the risk of meal skipping in order to read books was 22·9 times higher in those who read books during meals less than weekly. The more meals the respondents ate with the entire family, the less likely they were to skip meals to watch television.ConclusionsThe use of media during meals predicts meal skipping for using that same medium. Family meals appear to be inversely related to meal skipping for television viewing.

IntroductionAddiction to computer games (CA) is growing with a lightning speed in whole world. Very few studies are focused in the genetic basis of this disorder.ObjectivesTo study the COMT and MAOA polymorphism in addicts to computer games.MethodsTotally 42 persons were included in this study, 22 of them had CA and 20 were totally healthy. Out of 22 gamers, 10 persons had only CA. The rest of 12 patients suffered from another psychiatric disorder besides of CA (Schizotypal disorder, depression, bipolar disorder). Their mean age was 16 years (15; 17) and all of them were males.ResultsThe total frequency of alleles 3R and 5R of MAOA gene in patients with CA was 30.0%, which doesn’t have any statistical difference with the healthy persons. The genotype frequency of Val158Met of COMT gene is high in CA rather than in healthy persons (χ2 = 6.85, P = 0.03). Also, the homozygotes Val are much more in CA patients (59.1%) than in healthy persons (25%). On the other hand, the Val/Met combination is lower in CA patients (18.2%) than in healthy persons (55.0%).ConclusionThe Val158Met polymorphism of gene COMT may lead to CA formation.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Background: Future health-care professionals face stress both during education and in later professional life. Next to educational trainings, many students are forced to assume part-time employment. Objective: Applying the Job Demands-Resources Model to the educational context, we investigate which role part-time employment plays next to health-care professional students’ education-specific demands and resources in the prediction of perceived stress. Method: In this cross-sectional study, data from N = 161 health-care students were analysed, testing moderation models. Results: Education-specific demands were associated with higher and education-specific resources with lower amounts of perceived stress. Part-time employment functioned as moderator, i.e. demands were less associated with stress experiences in students who were employed part-time. Conclusion: Identifying part-time employment as a resource rather than a demand illustrates the need to understand students’ individual influences on stress. Both educators and students will benefit from reflecting these resources to support students’ stress management.
