The teaching of English as a local content subject in elementary schools in Central Java is aimed at giving students the skills to verbalize simplesentences. Students are also expected to be able to accommodate sociocultural aspects of their environments in their learning. However, some of theteachers still find it difficult to understand the place of English as a local content subject in the curriculum. Something should be done to update theteachers' abilities to cope with the curriculum, especially to develop English education instructional materials. This study focuses on five primaryobjectives: (1) to further investigate the model of teaching English as a local content subject at elementary schools in Central Java; (2) conduct a needsassessment for teaching English; (3) evaluate teachers' abilities to develop materials in English; (4) design a model of materials for teaching English; and(5) evaluate the effectiveness of the model. Two hundred English teachers from 200 elementary schools in Central Java participated in this study and wereselected using a purposive random sampling method. The study was supported through coordination efforts of the Central Java Provincial Office ofEducation. An interactive approach was used to analyze the data and help the author contact the respondents to clarify or confirm the data collected.Experimental research and expert judgments were used to test the model.

This paper aims to discuss the implementation of English education in elementary school in Japan. What challenges faced by the implementation of English education in elementary school. This paper reviewed some articles and book chapter regarding teaching English at elementary school in Indonesia and Japan, and the principles of teaching English to young learners (TYL). First, it provides an overview of the characteristics of young learners and challenges faced by teachers in the teaching English to young learners. Second, it will briefly describe the history of English education in Japan, followed by the discussion of the present implementation of English education at elementary schools. Finally, it relates the discussion of English education at elementary school to Indonesian context.Key Words; English Education, Elementary School, TYL

Competency is a set of knowledge, skill and experience necessary for the future, which manifest in their activity (White, 1959). Teaching competency reflects how teacher’s ability in teaching and learning activity. Regarding to English teaching and learning to foreign learners, young learners are also exposed to have this language mastery. But Indonesian Government (see 2013 Curriculum of Elementary School) limits the subjects in Elementary School into six subjects and English is excluded. For some elementary schools, English is not give, but some others English is put as Local Content. The decision of local content here is based on the need of society, and it is happened in some elementary school in Indramayu. Thus, an English teacher for young learners in some elementary schools should reflect their competency in teaching English. She/he should be occupied with knowledge, skill and experience that needed to teach English to young learners so the purpose can meet the need. The aim of this research is to find out teaching competence of English teacher in teaching English to young learners. By conducting qualitative descriptive, this research uncovered the competency of teacher in planning the lesson, media and the implementation so it can be a consideration to put back English subject as one of main subjects in Elementary School. From the finding, it can be seen that some English teachers had made their efforts on performing good ability in teaching English such as in lesson planning, teaching media, teaching and learning activity and teaching assessment. While the challenges in teaching English to young learners were from students’ behavior. The students’ unawareness, unwillingness and laziness to study were the challenges of teaching English for young learners.

This study aims to analyze the effect of reputation, competence on customer loyalty with customer satisfaction as an intervening variable. The population in this study were students of private tertiary institutions in Central Java who are members of Services for Higher Education Institutions Region VI, while a sample of 5 private universities, using the purposive sampling method, was taken with the Slovin formula of 190 respondents. The analysis technique uses regression analysis. Research results show the customer satisfaction variable can be an intervening variable or able to mediate between the direct influence of the reputation variable and the competency variable on customer loyalty variables.

This study is aimed at describing lecturers’ strategies to internalize Islamic values and students’ response toward the strategies. This a descriptive-qualitative study. The participants were 40 students of English education program and 3 English lecturers. All participants were given questionnaire and 3 students and 3 lecturers were interviewed. The data showed that all lecturers did internalize the Islamic values such as aqidah, worship, and moral values in the English learning preparation, process, and evaluation. However, students requested that the lecturers should consistently became the role model, performed positive habit, and gave best learning service so that the impact of internalizing Islamic values would be significantly and positively received.

The purpose of this study was to analize the impacts of service quality and customer value on the satisfaction of customers. Questionnaires are used to collect data from Boks Café customer in Bumiayu, Kabupaten Brebes, Central java by using scale of Likert. In this study, accident sampling method was used and data analysis method was simple linear regression and multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicated that service quality and customer value positively and significant influenced the satisfaction of customers. The conclution of this study is that customer value was dominant than service quality in influencing the satisfaction of customers

Abstract: In children, caries occurs mostly at the age of 6 to 9 years. At the age of 6 years permanent molar teeth begin to erupt, therefore, they are more susceptible to caries. Moreover, at the age of 9 years, a period of mingled teeth where the number of permanent teeth and of the milk teeth are nearly the same. This study aimed to obtain the prevalence of dental caries of the first permanent molar among students of elementary schools in South Tomohon. This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The population of this study was 72 students aged 6-9 years old. Samples were obtained by using total sampling method. Primary data were obtained by examination of the teeth and mouth. The results showed that the prevalence of caries among students of elementary schools in South Tomohon was 68.1% (49 students). Based on gender, caries were most frequent among males (68.4%). Based on age, caries were most frequent among students of 8 years old (79.2%). Based on tooth element, tooth 36 had the highest incidence of caries (37.2%). Based on the severity of caries, dentine caries was the most frequent (46.51%).Keywords: dental caries, the first permanent molarAbstrak: Karies merupakan penyakit yang banyak menyerang anak-anak terutama umur 6 sampai 9 tahun. Pada umur 6 tahun gigi molar permanen sudah mulai tumbuh sehingga lebih rentan terkena karies dan umur 9 tahun merupakan periode gigi bercampur dimana jumlah gigi permanen dan gigi sulung dalam rongga mulut hampir sama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui prevalensi karies gigi molar satu permanen pada anak di SD kecamatan Tomohon Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif observasional dengan pendekatan potong lintang. Populasi penelitian yaitu anak umur 6 - 9 tahun di SD kecamatan Tomohon Selatan dengan jumlah 72 orang. Sampel penelitian digunakan total sampling. Metode pengambilan data secara primer yaitu dengan pemeriksaan gigi dan mulut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan prevalensi karies pada anak-anak di SD kecamatan Tomohon Selatan mencapai 68,1% dengan jumlah 49 anak. Berdasarkan jenis kelamin angka kejadian karies tertinggi didapatkan pada anak laki-laki mencapai 26 anak (68,4%). Berdasarkan usia angka kejadian karies tertinggi didapatkan pada usia 8 tahun mencapai 19 anak (79,2%). Berdasarkan elemen gigi, gigi 36 merupakan yang paling tinggi angka kejadian kariesnya yaitu 32 gigi (37,2%) dan berdasarkan tingkat keparahan karies kejadian karies dentin yang paling tinggi yaitu mencapai 40 gigi (46,51%).Kata kunci: karies gigi, molar satu permanen

<p>Over the last few decades, teaching English become a phenomenon in Saudi Arabia, especially to young learners. English is taught as a main subject in kindergarten and elementary schools. Like any other children, Saudis accept new foreign languages easily, but they get bored very fast if the teacher is teaching them using the old conventional methods and techniques. The aim of this paper is to prove that games are effective tools when devised to explain vocabularies and they make it easier to remember their meanings. This paper deals with a literature review of teaching English vocabulary to young learners using games. Then it discusses the importance of using games in teaching vocabulary and in what way using them is helpful. After that it investigates the practical implications of using games to teach vocabulary that includes the implementation of vocabulary games and some examples of games that could be used to teach vocabulary to children. And finally it examines challenges teachers face when teaching vocabulary using games to young learners.</p>
