Abstract. In this paper the susceptibility of personal computer systems to fast transient electromagnetic pulses with double exponential pulse shapes (EMP, UWB) is determined. The influence of the computer generation, RAM-values, different program states and the pulse shape, as well as the destruction thresholds of single PC-components (CPU, RAM, BIOS, Mainboard) have been investigated.

Transient electromagnetic pulse (EMP) can easily couple into the inner of targets via apertures. To calculate the EMP coupling effects on a cylinder object with openings, the coupling course is simulated using sub-gridding FDTD algorithm in this paper. Gauss pulse and double exponential pulse are selected as the incident pulse source. The coupling EM field strength E inside the object and the current density J on the surface are calculated. Several rules about EMP coupling effects are gotten both in time and frequency domain. The results can help us to understand the damage effects of transient EMP.

Abstract. In order to protect electronic systems against the effects of transient electromagnetic interferences, shields made of electrically conductive material can be used. The subject of this paper is an electrically conductive textile. When applying the shield, a reliable measure is needed in order to determine the effectiveness of the shield to protect against electromagnetic pulses. For this purpose, a time domain measurement technique is presented using double exponential pulses. With these pulses, the susceptibility of an operating electronic device with and without the shield is determined. As a criterion of quality of a shield, the breakdown failure rate found in both cases is compared.

Abstract This paper presents an estimation method of double exponential pulse (DEP) between the physical parameters rise time (t r), full width at half maximum amplitude (t FWHM) and the mathematical parameters α, β. A newly fitting method based on the least infinity norm criterion is proposed to deal with the estimation problem of DEP. The calculation process and equation of parameters of this method is proposed based on an m-th-order polynomial fitting model. This estimation method is compared with the least square method by the same data and fitting function. The results show that the maximum estimation error of parameters of double exponential pulse obtained by the least infinity norm method is 1.5 %.

In this paper, a new type of portable horizontal grid earth electrode has been designed for mobile equipments. With the impulse ground measurement system, the responses to double exponential pulse current of five earth electrodes in two arrangements have been tested on soil, grassplot and cement floor respectively. After filtering and calculating, the curve of transient grounding resistance (TGR) in time domain can be gotten. And in the end, some conclusions have been drawn. The analysis of discharging capacity of horizontal grid earth electrodes in time domain has great significance in the design of mobile equipments’ earth devices.
