✓The mathematical modeling of hydrocephalus is a relatively young field. The discipline evolved from Hakim's initial description of the brain as a water-filled sponge. Nagashima and colleagues subsequently translated this description into a computer-driven model by defining five important system rules. A number of researchers have since criticized and refined the method, providing additional system constraints or alternative approaches. Such efforts have led to an increased understanding of ventricular shape change and the development of periventricular lucency on imaging studies. However, severe limitations exist, precluding the use of the mathematical model to influence the operative decisions of practicing surgeons. In this paper, the authors explore the history, limitations, and future of the mathematical model of hydrocephalus.

The mathematical model for calculation of concentration of metals for 3 layers peat blocks is developed due to solving the 3-D boundary-value problem in multilayered domain-averaging and finite difference methods are considered. As an example, mathematical models for calculation of Fe and Ca concentrations have been analyzed.

Bogs have been formed by an accumulation of peat - a light brown-to-black organic material, built up from partial decomposition of mosses and other bryophytes, sedges, grasses, shrubs, or trees under waterlogged conditions. The total peatlands area in Latvia covers 698 918 ha or 10.7% of the entire territory. Knowledge’s of peat metals content are important for any kind of peat using. Experimental determination of metals in peat is very long and expensive work. Using experimental data mathematical model for calculation of concentrations of metals in different points for different layers can help to very easy and fast to find approximately concentration of metals or trace elements. The results of the research show that concentrations of trace elements in peat are generally low. Concentrations differ between the superficial, middle and bottom peat layers, but the significance decreases depending on the type of mire. The mathematical model for calculation of concentration of metals in different points for different 3 layers in peat blocks is developed. As an example, mathematical models for calculation of Ca and Fe concentrations have been analyzed.

Purpose. Mathematical modeling of high-frequency periodic processes in winding power transformers to improve the technology of their design and operation. Methodology. The methods of the formation of mathematical models for the research of high-frequency periodic processes in transformers and methods of solving systems of partial differential equations are applied. Findings. The mathematical model for the research of high-frequency periodic processes in two-winding transformers, with adequate considering of electromagnetic connections of windings and structural parameters of transformers, is created. Originality. To form a mathematical model for the research of high-frequency periodic processes, a substitute scheme of a two-windings transformer, taking into account the parameters of the electric and magnetic circuits of windings and electromagnetic connections between them, is proposed. Practical value. The mathematical model, which allows analyzing the voltage distribution in the transformer windings for high-frequency periodic processes in windings, and adjusting their insulating abilities, is created.

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on multiple levels of society. Not only has the pandemic completely overwhelmed some health systems but it has also changed how scientific evidence is shared and increased the pace at which such evidence is published and consumed, by scientists, policymakers and the wider public. More significantly, the pandemic has created tremendous challenges for decision-makers, who have had to implement highly disruptive containment measures with very little empirical scientific evidence to support their decision-making process. Given this lack of data, predictive mathematical models have played an increasingly prominent role. In high-income countries, there is a long-standing history of established research groups advising policymakers, whereas a general lack of translational capacity has meant that mathematical models frequently remain inaccessible to policymakers in low-income and middle-income countries. Here, we describe a participatory approach to modelling that aims to circumvent this gap. Our approach involved the creation of an international group of infectious disease modellers and other public health experts, which culminated in the establishment of the COVID-19 Modelling (CoMo) Consortium. Here, we describe how the consortium was formed, the way it functions, the mathematical model used and, crucially, the high degree of engagement fostered between CoMo Consortium members and their respective local policymakers and ministries of health.

Current cobalt processing practices are described. This article discusses the advantages of the group argument accounting method for mathematical modeling of the leaching process of cobalt solutions. Identification of the mathematical model of the cascade of reactors of cobalt-producing is presented. Group method of data handling is allowing: to eliminate the need to calculate quantities of chemical kinetics; to get the opportunity to take into account the results of mixed experiments; to exclude the influence of random interference on the simulation results. The proposed model confirms the capabilities of the group method of data handling for describing multistage processes.

This study develops a mathematical model for describing the dynamics of the banana-nematodes and its pest detection method to help banana farmers. Two criteria: the mathematical model and the type of nematodes pest control system are discussed. The sensitivity analysis, local stability, global stability, and the dynamic behavior of the mathematical model are performed. Further, we also develop and discuss the optimal control mathematical model. This mathematical model represents various modes of management, including the initial release of infected predators as well as the destroying of nematodes. The theoretical results are shown and verified by numerical simulations.

Mathematical modeling utilized to simplify real phenomena that occur in everyday life. Mathematical modeling is popular to modeling the case of the spread of disease in an area, the growth of living things, and social behavior in everyday life and so on. This type of research is included in the study of theoretical and applied mathematics. The research steps carried out include 1) constructing a mathematical model type SEIRS, 2) analysis on the SEIRS type mathematical model by using parameter values for conditions 1and , 3) Numerical simulation to see the behavior of the population in the model, and 4) to conclude the results of the numerical simulation of the SEIRS type mathematical model. The simulation results show that the model stabilized in disease free quilibrium for the condition  and stabilized in endemic equilibrium for the condition .

One of the most important problems that pose a serious threat to the functioning of railways is the problem of freight cars derailment. However, according to statistics, the number of cases of the derailments of freight cars in trains annually grows. Тo prevent such cases, the necessary preventive measures are developed, and to study the causes of their occurrence, a significant number of mathematical models, programs and software systems created by leading domestic and foreign scientists. Studies of such mathematical models by the authors of this work have led to the conclusion that they are not sufficiently detailed to the extent that it is necessary for analyze the reasons of its derailment. At the same time, an analysis of the causes of the rolling stock derailments on the railways of Ukraine over the past five years showed that in about 20 % of cases they are obvious, and in 7 % of cases they are not obvious and implicitly expressed. The study of such cases of rolling stock derailment during an official investigation by the railway and during forensic railway transport expertises requires the use of an improved mathematical model of a freight car, which would allow a quantitative assessment of the impact of its parameters and rail track on the conditions of railway accidents. Therefore, taking into account the main reasons that caused the occurrence of such railroad accidents over the last five years on the railways of Ukraine, the article selected the main directions for improving the mathematical model of a freight car, allowing to cover all the many factors (explicit and hidden) and identify the most significant ones regarding the circumstances of the derailment rolling stock off the track, established on the basis of a computer experiment. It is proposed in the mathematical model of a freight car to take into account the guiding force, the value of which is one of the main indicators of the stability of the rolling stock. The authors of the article noted that not taking into account the influence of the guiding forces on the dynamics of the freight car can lead to an erroneous determination of the reasons for the rolling stock derailment or even to the impossibility of establishing them.
