In this research, the magnetic visible light photocatalyst of Fe-TiO2@SiO2@Fe3O4 was synthesised using co-precipitation, sol-gel and hydrothermal method. The as-obtained material’s properties were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance spectra (UV- Vis), magnetic curve (VSM) and photoluminescence (PL). The catalytic activity of the materials under visible light was investigated for degradation of Rhodamine B pigment  in water. The obtained results indicated that at the catalyst dose of 0.5 g/L, Fe-TiO2@SiO2@Fe3O4 with TiO2/SiO2@Fe3O4 (SF) ratio of 2:1 performed the highest efficiency of  99.3 % after 180 minutes under irritation. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of Rhodamine B under visible light could be ascribed to the reducing of band gap energy and decrease in the recombination rate of photogenerated electron/hole pairs. The catalytic activity after four times of recycling were 71,3 %.The material showed potential for further application in water treatment.

In this study, direct Z–scheme heterostructure CoWO4/g-C3N4 was synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. The structural, morphological properties of the prepared samples were characterised by XRD, SEM, UV–Vis and PL measurements. The as-obtained heterostructure CoWO4/g-C3N4 exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activities toward the degradation of Rhodamine B under visible light irradiation with 92% Rhodamine B removal after 80 minutes irritation, which exceeded pristine g-C3N4 and CoWO4. The enhanced photocatalytic performance ascribed to interfacial contact between g-C3N4 and CoWO4, thus further inhibiting the recombination of photogenerated electron/hole pairs. It is anticipated that the construction of Z–scheme heterostructure CoWO4/g-C3N4 is an effective strategy to develop high-performance photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants in water.

A silicon dioxide/carbon nano onions/titanium dioxide (SiO2/CNOs/TiO2) composite was synthesized by a simple sol-gel method and characterized by the methods of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis DRS). In this work, the photocatalytic activity of the SiO2/CNOs/TiO2 photocatalyst was assessed by testing the degradation rate of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light. The results indicated that the samples exhibited the best photocatalytic activity when the composite consisted of 3% CNOs and the optimum dosage of SiO2/CNOs/TiO2(3%) was 1.5 g/L as evidenced by the highest RhB degradation rate (96%). The SiO2/CNOs/TiO2 composite greatly improved the quantum efficiency of TiO2. This work provides a new option for the modification of subsequent nanocomposite oxide nanoparticles.

This paper discusses the catalytic activity of ZnO/CuO/nanographene platelets composites under visible light and ultrasound irradiation separately. The ZnO/CuO/nanographene platelets composites were synthesized using a sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction and nitrogen adsorption spectroscopy were employed to investigate the structural and surface area of the catalyst. The catalytic activity results showed that the presence of nanographene platelets in ZnO/CuO nanocomposites improved its efficiency in degrading methylene blue. A scavenger method was also used to understand the role of charged carriers and the active radical involved in the catalytic activity.

Loading a noble metal on Bi4Ti3O12 could enable the formation of the Schottky barrier at the interface between the former and the latter, which causes electrons to be trapped and inhibits the recombination of photoelectrons and photoholes. In this paper, AgPt/Bi4Ti3O12 composite photocatalysts were prepared using the photoreduction method, and the effects of the type and content of noble metal on the photocatalytic performance of the catalysts were investigated. The photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) showed that the loading of AgPt bimetallic nanoparticles significantly improved the catalytic performance of Bi4Ti3O12. When 0.10 wt% noble metal was loaded, the degradation rate for RhB of Ag0.7Pt0.3/Bi4Ti3O12 was 0.027 min−1, which was respectively about 2, 1.7 and 3.7 times as that of Ag/Bi4Ti3O12, Pt/Bi3Ti4O12 and Bi4Ti3O12. The reasons may be attributed as follows: (i) the utilization of visible light was enhanced due to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag and Pt in the visible region; (ii) Ag nanoparticles mainly acted as electron acceptors to restrain the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs under visible light irradiation; and (iii) Pt nanoparticles acted as electron cocatalysts to further suppress the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The photocatalytic performance of Ag0.7Pt0.3/Bi4Ti3O12 was superior to that of Ag/Bi4Ti3O12 and Pt/Bi3Ti4O12 owing to the synergistic effect between Ag and Pt nanoparticles.

Expanded perlite (EP) modified titanium dioxide (TiO2) with different loading times were prepared by Sol-Gel method. Photocatalytic degradation kinetics of Rhodamine B (RhB) in polluted water by the materials (EP-nanoTiO2), as well as the effects of different loading times and the initial concentration of RhB on photocatalysis rate were examined. The catalytic activity of the regenerated photocatalyst was also tested. The results showed that photocatalyst modified three times with TiO2had the highest catalytic activity. Degradation ratio of RhB by EP-nanoTiO2(modified three times) under irradiation for 6 h were 98.0%, 75.6% and 63.2% for 10 mg/L, 20 mg/L and 30 mg/L, respectively. The photocatalyst activity has little change after the five times recycling, and the degradation rate of RhB decreased less than 8%. The reaction of photocatalysis for RhB with irradiation time can be expressed as first-order kinetic mode within the initial concentration range of RhB between 10mg/L and 30 mg/L. EP-nanoTiO2photocatalyst has a higher activity and stability to degrade RhB in aqueous solution.

Boron-BiVO4 samples were synthesized by sol-gel method. They were characterized by UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. Photocatalytic activity of the obtained BiVO4 samples was investigated through degrading methylene blue (MB). The results reveal that boron-BiVO4 catalysts have monoclinic scheelite structure. The BiVO4 and Co-BiVO4 photocatalysts were responsive to visible light. Co-BiVO4 photocatalyst showed higher photocatalytic activity than pure BiVO4, resulting in the significantly improved efficiency of degradation of MB.

Different organic pollutants have been remediated photo catalytically by applying perovskite photocatalysts. Atrazine (ATR) is a pesticide commonly detected as a pollutant in drinking, surface and ground water. Herein, FeYO3@rGO heterojunction was synthesized and applied for photooxidation decomposition of ATR. First, FeYO 3nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared via routine sol-gel. After that, FeYO3 NPs were successfully incorporated with different percentages (5, 10, 15 and 20 wt.%) of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) in the synthesis of novel FeYO3@rGO photocatalyst. Morphological, structural, surface, optoelectrical and optical characteristics of constructed materials were identified via X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), adsorption/desorption isotherms, diffusive reflectance (DR) spectra, and photoluminescence response (PL). Furthermore, photocatalytic achievement of the constructed materials was evaluated via photooxidative degradation of ATR. Various investigations affirmed the usefulness of rGO incorporation on the advancement of formed photocatalysts. Actually, novel nanocomposite containing rGO (15 wt.%) possessed diminished bandgap energy, as well as magnified visible light absorption. Furthermore, such nanocomposite presented exceptional photocatalytic achievement when exposed to visible light as ATR was perfectly photooxidized over finite amount (1.6 g · L-1) from the optimized photocatalyst when illuminated for 30 min. The advanced photocatalytic performance of constructed heterojunctions could be accredited mainly to depressed recombination amid induced charges. The constructed FeYO3@rGO nanocomposite is labelled as efficient photocatalyst for remediation of herbicides from aquatic environments.

AbstractNanoscale FeAl2O4 was successfully synthesized via sol–gel method. The sol constituents containing iron and aluminum cations were formed homogenously in stearic acid gel (formation of organic precursor). The pure structural analysis and the size of the spinels were confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). It was observed that the size of the nanoscale materials obtained at around 30–40nm. The micrographs of FeAl2O4 evidenced the homogenous and nanosize formation of spinel. The semiconducting behavior of this mixed metal oxide was observed at 3.14eV based on the band gap energy (Eg). The final nanoscale materials exhibited a superparamagnetic behavior with a saturation magnetization of 9.8 emu/g at applied field of 10 kOe.

The Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were synthesized by a facile one-step hydrothermal method and applied for the photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh B) under the visible light. The Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The results indicated that the Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were successfully prepared, and Ti-O-C and S-C bonds were existing among Bi2S3, TiO2 as well as RGO. Furthermore, the photocatalytic ability of Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites was excellent under visible light due to its responding to the whole visible light region, low recombination rate of photogenerated electron–hole pairs and relatively negative conduction band. Rh B photocatalytic degradation rate was 99.5% after 50[Formula: see text]min and still could reach 98.4% after five cycles. Finally, a formation mechanism as well as a photocatalytic mechanism of Bi2S3-TiO2-RGO composites were proposed based on the experimental results.
