Indexing and abstracting are like Siamese twins in the information retrieval process. Indexing and abstracting are the two approaches to distilling information content into an abbreviated, but comprehensive representation of an information resource(s). They are knowledge organisation tools which usually provide detailed and accurate maps and road signs in the information superhighway. Digital libraries are characterised by an electronic stock of information which can be accessed via computers, and are extension and augmentations of physical libraries in digital forms. They are information retrieval systems (a device interposed between a potential user of information and the information itself) which provide opportunities to access and retrieve information that is often accessible for a variety of reasons. This chapter presents a literature review on indexing and abstracting, information retrieval process, digital libraries pointing out the importance of indexing and abstracting in the information retrieving process and then highlighting the roles played by indexing and abstracting as tools for information retrieval in digital libraries. The chapter posits that indexing and abstracting plays a significant role as information retrieval tools in digital libraries.

In this paper, the authors present an overall description of their information retrieval system which makes a practical collaboration between Semantic Web and Fuzzy logic in order to have profit from their advantages in the information retrieval domain. Their system is dedicated for kids, for this reason the semantic/fuzzy collaboration materialized must be in the background of the information retrieval process because such category of users cannot certainly control semantic web technologies neither fuzzy logic commands. In this paper, the authors present the different services proposed by their system and how they use Semantic Web and Fuzzy logic to develop it. Evaluation tests of the system using universal measures show clearly its efficiency.

This paper describes a work in constructing two models of knowledge representation (KR) in aiming to do evaluation of their achievement in contributing to increase performance of retrieving information on English Quran domain. Due to many approaches available to construct a KR in providing data for information retrieval process, there is a need to find out in what model the KR could provide a valuable contribution for retrieving information. We focused on ontology-based KR and graph database-based KR. We use Quranic Arabic corpus that available at http://www.corpus.quran.com as a source to build the KR. We extracted several data from it i.e. English token, token location, and token Part of Speech (POS). Protégé is used to construct the ontology and Neo4j is utilized in developing the graph database. Both KR models will be equipped in developing of an English Quran Question Answering system in order to evaluate their benefit.

The data available on the Web is growing exponentially, providing information of high added value to organizations. Such information can be arranged in diverse bases and in varied formats, like videos and photos in social media. However, unstructured data present great difficulty for the information retrieval, not efficiently meeting the informational needs of the users, because there are problems in understanding the meaning of documents stored on the Web. In the context of an Information Retrieval architecture, this research aims to The implementation of a semantic extraction agent in the context of the Web that allows the location, treatment and retrieval of information in the context of Big Data in the most varied informational sources that serves as the basis for the implementation of informational environments that aid the Information Retrieval process , Using ontology to add semantics to the process of retrieval and presentation of results obtained to users, thus being able to meet their needs.

One of ways to facilitate process of information retrieval is by performing clustering toward collection of the existing documents. The existing text documents are often unstructured. The forms are varied and their groupings are ambiguous. This cases cause difficulty on information retrieval process. Moreover, every second new documents emerge and need to be clustered. Generally, static document clustering method performs clustering of document after whole documents are collected. However, performing re-clustering toward whole documents when new document arrives causes inefficient clustering process. In this paper, we proposed a new method for document clustering with dynamic hierarchy algorithm based on fuzzy set type - II from frequent itemset. To achieve the goals, there are three main phases, namely: determination of key-term, the extraction of candidates clusters and cluster hierarchical construction. Based on the experiment, it resulted the value of F-measure 0.40 for Newsgroup, 0.62 for Classic and 0.38 for Reuters. Meanwhile, time of computation when addition of new document is lower than to the previous static method. The result shows that this method is suitable to produce solution of clustering with hierarchy in dynamical environment effectively and efficiently. This method also gives accurate clustering result.

Information retrieval refers to a noteworthy system of identifying relevant information and recovering it through specific procedures from stored system. These technique is used in many differentiated applications that deal with subjective intelligence. Applications based on information retrieval are identified with various issues, for example, in technology domain, the sudden size changes of the objectives as they approach the sensor. If not taken care of appropriately, the altered changes can present substantial issues in information affiliation and position estimation. Under such a system, the meaning of the objective state is the fundamental advance for programmed comprehension of dynamic scenes. This is the reason of requirement of cognitive models for information retrieval. The existent models move around the connection between data list terms and records.

This study discusses the processing of video recording collections in Pusat Dokumentasi Video Jogja TV. The objectives are identification management video recording collections in there and special characteristic of the system has been applied. This is qualitative-descriptive research with a case study design. Data were collected by observation and interview with the related informants. Findings of this study was suggesting for upgrading the system has been applied and the need for being subject indexing that controlled by the authority control. It will make an easy way for the information retrieval process.
