AbstractAn outstanding objective of the UN and EU in recent years is to improve the environment in which firms operate. This has increased pressures on companies from consumers, governments, and shareholders alike to develop and implement sustainable business practices. Literature has covered other strategic decisions that will improve a firms’ sustainable performance but no study has looked at this from a market-orientation perspective. However, a firm’s market orientation is regarded its capability that enables it to identify and respond to customers’ desires in order to deliver superior value to them. Other literature has affirmed market orientation as the most critical source of sustainable competitive advantage. Evidently, market-oriented companies can incorporate sustainability activities into their overall business strategies but there is a gap in knowledge as to what extent this affects firm sustainable performance. This conceptual paper, therefore, fills this gap, hence, analysed the impact of market orientation on sustainable performance of firms, and provides an argument on the market orientation to sustainable performance relationship. To achieve this, the study reviewed literature obtained from several databases concerning the related fields. Literature search was conducted using the keywords search via Google scholar engine and other research databases including Scopus and Web of Science. The individual variables were used as key search terms, though a limited amount of information was found, literature on market orientation proved promising. Articles deemed relevant to this conceptual paper were retrieved and reviewed. Additionally, books on the topic were searched using the same key search terms used in the research database. The findings confirmed the relationship between market orientation and firm sustainable performance. Further, it evaluated the mediating and moderating variables that impact the relationship between market orientation and firm sustainable performance. It is recommended that an empirical study is done to prove the strength of the relationships.

The impacts of FDI (foreign direct investment) on the innovation of Chinese local enterprises have always been the focus of attention, but few studies have explored the impacts of foreign shareholding on enterprise innovation behaviors through the micro level. Based on the survey data regarding the manufacturing sector of China enterprises conducted by the World Bank in 2012, this paper conducts an empirical study on the relationship between foreign shareholding and enterprise innovation behaviors. The research findings include two aspects; that is, (1) foreign shareholding has significantly positive impacts on enterprise innovation behaviors; (2) technology introduction plays a complete mediating effect in foreign shareholding and enterprise innovation behaviors. On the basis of considering sample selective bias and endogenous problems, the propensity score matching (PSM) method is further applied to evaluate the impacts of foreign shareholding on enterprise innovation behaviors. After putting the endogenous problems and sample selective bias under control, the above conclusions are still robust. Thus, under the current complicated international situation, enterprises should be encouraged to attract foreign investment under moderate control, with a view to accelerating the promotion of enterprise innovation activities through the technology introduction brought about by foreign shareholding.

Extensive use of global resources and the associated environmental impacts continue to grow. As a result, green operations have received continuous attention from the business sector in recent years. However, only a few studies unpacked its dimension and examined environmental management accounting (EMA) and the firm's performance. The purpose of this paper is to (i) review the connection of holistic accounting approach of EMA and environmental performance in the extant literature and (ii) deepen the theory of NRBV by incorporating environmental proactivity as a moderator in the framework to provide an additional theoretical explanation to environmental performance in the context of ISO 14001 companies in Malaysia. Using the data of 145 companies, this study revealed that environmental proactivity moderates the relationship between EMA and environmental performance. Interestingly, we also found that EMA showed positive relationship on environmental performance. The research findings will be particularly important for ISO 14001 companies in developing their strategies and policies to achieve sustainable performance. Furthermore, the outcome will give some remarkable insights for managers to identify the current standing of their firm’s environmental performance.

The prime objective of the current study is to examine the impact of knowledge sharing and employee ambidexterity on the sustainable performance of manufacturing firms operating in the KPK province of Pakistan. In addition to this, the study has examined the mediating role of employees’ ambidexterity in the relationship between knowledge sharing and sustainable performance. The final sample included 240 respondents, which represented a response rate of 68%. The study employed SEM-PLS for data analysis. The results indicate that the employee’s ambidexterity fully mediates between knowledge sharing and sustainable performance. Knowledge sharing appears as a significant determinant of employees’ ambidexterity and sustainable performance. Meanwhile, the employee’s ambidexterity also has a positive and significant relationship with sustainable performance. In the field of Management Sciences and other disciplines, knowledge sharing is considered a significant field of study. Globally, very little research has targeted these variables. This research offers conceptual highlights for developing the influence of knowledge sharing on the sustainable performance of employees particularly in the manufacturing sector.

The implementation of sustainable manufacturing practices has brought many benefits not only to the manufacturing industry itself but also to the environment. Among the benefits are increasing productivity, bringing a good image, and producing environmentally friendly products. However, there are still many manufacturing organizations that still do not implement sustainable manufacturing practices due to factors such as high cost and organizational culture that does not accept such practices. Thus, this study aims to identify the relationship between sustainable manufacturing practices (SMP) and the sustainable performance of manufacturing organizations. Data were collected based on quantitative methods using a questionnaire survey. This study employed a simple random sampling method and SPSS was used to analyze the descriptive and correlation data for a sample of 51 manufacturing companies in Johor. Clean production practices and employee relations show a significant relationship with sustainable performance. Eco-efficiency practices show no relationship to economic sustainability, yet there is a significant relationship to environmental sustainability and social sustainability. The benefit of this study is that manufacturing organizations can see some SMPs acting as drivers to improve the sustainable performance of the organization because of the long-term benefits it offers.
