MNCs are increasingly sending expatriates to their foreign subsidiaries in order to acquire best resources, and to cater to unexplored markets. This requires the executives to develop their global competencies. Once the expatriate has developed skills, far enough to sustain in the overseas, it becomes a challenge to settle him/her back in the home country when the expatriate assignment is over. Research evidences show that, there is a high percentage of repatriate turnover i.e the repatriate leaving the parent organization, upon return from the foreign assignment, resulting in both direct and indirect losses to the parent company. The purpose of this paper is to look into the reasons for repatriation turnover. The proposed model links repatriate turnover intentions to key causing factors such as repatriate expectation upon return and repatriate perception of organizational support practices. Data was gathered from 115 repatriates working in the major oil and gas industry, which included both government and private sector companies. The results of the study conclusively established that unmet expectations of expatriate were a significant cause for turnover intention of repatriate, while ineffective repatriation practices of company was not.

Purpose The main objective of this study is to present a conceptual model of sustainable product service supply chain (SPSSC) performance assessment in the oil and gas industry. Design/methodology/approach Based on an in-depth study of the previous literature, the indicators related to PSSC performance assessment were determined. Then, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were applied to identify and confirm the sub-criteria and criteria pertaining to the proposed model. Findings The obtained results identify ten criteria related to the proposed model as follows: “Environmental performance”, “Customer performance”, “financial performance”, “Information technology Performance”, “Social Performance”, “Risk performance”, “Logistics performance”, “Operational performance”, “Organizational performance” and “performance of innovation and growth”. Research limitations/implications As the present research was conducted in the Iranian context, caution should be taken regarding the generalizability of the obtained results. Originality/value Based on a set of the identified criteria, this study proposes a conceptual model of the PSSC performance assessment in the oil and gas industry which hopefully could be useful for other organizations in this industry and other organizations in other parts of the world.

Purpose – This paper aims to develop a framework to understand, predict and control factors affecting employee turnover intentions in the oil and gas industry in the UAE. The oil and gas industry, considered as the backbone of UAE’s economy, has been facing high employee turnover rate. Design/methodology/approach – The paper examined researches conducted in the area of employee turnover intentions and proposed a framework to be used by the practicing managers to retain employees and leverage their potentials for organizational growth. Findings – A framework of employee turnover intentions was developed based on body of research literature which suggests to the interplay of individual-, group-, environmental- and organizational-level variables. Research limitations/implications – The proposed framework on employee turnover intentions is well-suited for usage in the oil and gas industry in the UAE. However, the proposed framework can also be utilized with caution in other industries as well. Practical implications – The study incorporates correlates of employee turnover intentions in a framework for helping practicing managers to design interventions to retain talent for the benefits of both the employees and the organizations. Originality/value – This paper provides a comprehensive framework which can help practitioners and also academics to understand the underlying causes of turnover in the oil and gas industry.

Buried steel pipes are commonly used in oil and gas industry for transmitting hydrocarbon products. Fault crossing is considered as one of the most important extreme events. Buried steel pipes are more vulnerable to compressive strains as compared to tensile strains. Therefore, the orientation angle of the pipe with respect to the fault should be arranged in such a way so as to promote net tension in the pipe. In this study, a numerical study is carried out on a simplified numerical model to determine the seismic demand on steel pipes at fault crossings. The proposed model permits plastic hinge formation in the pipe due to incrementally applied fault movements, allow determining the critical length of the pipeline and measure strains developed on the tension and compression sides in the pipe. Based on the analyses carried out on the simple model and previous studies, two performance levels are defined for pipelines; namely, fully functional and partially functional.

Federal tax revenues from the main sectors of the Russian economy after the 1998 crisis are examined in the article. Authors present the structure of revenues from these sectors by main taxes for 1999-2003 and prospects for 2004. Emphasis is given to an increasing dependence of budget on revenues from oil and gas industries. The share of proceeds from these sectors has reached 1/3 of total federal revenues. To explain this fact world oil prices dynamics and changes in tax legislation in Russia are considered. Empirical results show strong dependence of budget revenues on oil prices. The analysis of changes in tax legislation in oil and gas industry shows that the government has managed to redistribute resource rent in favor of the state.
