BiFeO3nanoparticles were prepared via a polyacrylamide gel route. BiFeO3-graphene nanocomposites were fabricated by mixing BiFeO3nanoparticles and graphene into absolute ethanol solution followed by thermal drying. The TEM observation demonstrates that the BiFeO3nanoparticles are well anchored onto graphene sheets. The photocatalytic activities of the as-prepared samples were evaluated by the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under simulated sunlight irradiation. Compared to bare BiFeO3nanoparticles, BiFeO3-graphene nanocomposites exhibit enhanced photocatalytic activity. The outstanding photocatalytic performance is mainly ascribed to the efficient transfer of photogenerated electrons from BiFeO3to graphene, thus leading to an increased availability of h+for the photocatalytic reaction. In addition, hydroxyl (·OH) radicals were detected by the photoluminescence technique using terephthalic acid as a probe molecule and are found to be produced on the irradiated BiFeO3and BiFeO3-graphene nanocomposites; in particular, an enhanced yield is observed for the latter.

In this work, the THF/H2O mixture was employed to synthesize the nanostrucuted 5,10,15,20-tetra(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl) porphyrin (TTOP) via solvophobic self-assembly. The resultant porphyrin nanomaterial was characterized using photoluminescence (PL), UV-vis spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The prepared self-assembled porphyrin was in structures of rod-like, cubic-lik, and particles forms. These porphyrin crystals showed high photocatalytic performance for the degradation of RhB under simulated sunlight irradiation, especially with the porphyrin crystal formed with the water fraction of 80 and 90%.

Water pollution caused by intensive use of organic dyes has become an increasingly serious problem recently. Green and efficient processes are desperately needed to remove persistent organic pollutants from waste waters. Herein, Ag nanoparticles loaded ZnO hollow microspheres were synthesized through a simple solvothermal method and used as a photocatalyst for dye degradation. The calculated band gap of Ag/ZnO — 5% (2.97[Formula: see text]eV) is much narrower than that of pure ZnO (3.37[Formula: see text]eV). The obtained Ag/ZnO samples show a remarkable photocatalytic activity in photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under simulated sunlight irradiation. The degradation efficiency of RhB for Ag/ZnO — 5% is 98.8% after 100[Formula: see text]min irradiation while only 52.8% degradation rate is obtained over pure ZnO. The enhancement is attributed to the exposed active ZnO (001) plane and the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles that promote the separation of photogeneated electrons and holes.

The development of excellent full-spectrum photocatalysts is of vital significance to its practical application in environmental remediation. Herein, flower-like Ag2CO3/BiOCOOH type I heterostructures were prepared via a facile method and exhibited powerful photocatalytic activity by removing various toxic pollutants (rhodamine B, methyl blue, and tetracycline hydrochloride) under simulated sunlight irradiation. The boosted photocatalytic performance is attributed to the expanded range of the absorption spectrum and alleviated separation rate of the photo-induced electrons and holes. The photoluminescence spectra and trapping experiment were applied to clarify the photocatalytic reaction mechanism of Ag2CO3/BiOCOOH. The holes and •O2− were detected as the dominant reactive species involved in pollutant degradation. This work provides a novel full-spectrum-driven photocatalyst of Ag2CO3/BiOCOOH, which could effectively degrade toxic pollutants under simulated sunlight.

The Ce/TiO2 (Ce/Ti) and Ag/Ce/TiO2 (Ag/Ce/Ti) nanomaterials were successfully synthesized by hydrolysis method. The products were characterized by a variety of characteristic techniques to investigate their phases, morphologies, structures, optical and electronic properties and photocatalytic performance. The DRS, PL and PEC indicated that the introduction of Ce and Ag resulted in a stronger light absorption and an effective charge separation. The photocatalytic performance of both Ce/Ti and Ag/Ce/Ti were evaluated for degrading reactive blue K-NR under simulated sunlight irradiation. The results demonstrated that Ce[Formula: see text] ion doping and Ag deposition synergetic interaction effectively enhance the TiO2 photocatalytic activity ascribed to the improved photogenerated electron–hole pairs separation, enhanced light absorption and large surface area. Considering their good performance, the Ag/Ce/Ti photocatalyst can be applied in organic pollutants treatment in water and environmental purification.
