Self-adhesive resins (SARs) contain adhesives, which simplify the procedures of resin application, and primers, which provide sufficient bonding ability. In this study, mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBN) were added to a SAR to easily improve the physical properties and remineralization ability. The experimental resins comprised 1%, 3%, and 5% MBN mixed in Ortho Connect Flow (GC Corp, Tokyo, Japan). As the MBN content in the SAR increased, the microhardness increased, and a statistically significant difference was observed between the cases of 1% and 5% MBN addition. Shear bond strength increased for 1% and 3% MBN samples and decreased for 5% MBN. The addition of MBN indicated a statistically significant antibacterial effect on both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The anti-demineralization experiment showed that the remineralization length increased with the MBN content of the sample. Through the above results, we found that SAR containing MBN has antibacterial and remineralization effects. Thus, by adding MBN to the SAR, we investigated the possibility of orthodontic resin development, wherein the strength is enhanced and the drawbacks of the conventional SAR addressed.

Introduction: Many multi-resistant patogens appear continuously resulting in a permanent need for the development of novel antibiotics. A large number of antibiotics introduced in clinical and veterinary practices are not effective. Antibacterial peptides with unusual mode of action may represent a promising option against multi-resistant pathogens. The entomopathogenic Xenorhabdus budapestensis bacteria produce several different antimicrobial peptides compounds such as bicornutin-A and fabclavin. Aim: The aim of the authors was to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial effect of Xenorhabdus budapestensis using zoonotic patogen bacteria. Method: Cell-free conditioned media and purified peptide fractions of Xenorhabdus budapestensis were tested on Gram-positive (Rhodococcus equi, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathia, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus equi, Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis, Listeria monocytagenes) and Gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella gallinarum, Salmonella derbi, Bordatella bronchoseptica, Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida, Aeromonas hydrophila) using agar diffusion test on blood agar plates. Results: It was found that Xenorhabdus budapestensis bacteria produced compounds with strong and dose-dependent effects on the tested organisms. Purified peptid fraction exerted a more marked effect than cell free conditioned media. Gram-positive bacteria were more sensitive to this antibacterial effect than Gram-negative bacteria. Conclusions: Antibacterial peptide compound from Xenorhabdus budapestensis exert marked antibacterial effect on zoonotic patogen bacteria and they should be further evaluated in future for their potential use in the control or prevention of zoonoses. The antibacterial effect of garlic (Allium sativum) extract was evaluated by in vitrostudy testing the growth of various Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative bacteria.The bactericidal activity of this extract was analyzed by serial dilution in tubes.This study, found that Gram-Negative and Gram-Positive bacteria susceptible tovery low garlic concentrations. On the other hand, Gram-Negative bacteria weremore susceptible than Gram-Positive bacteria, the minimal bactericidalconcentration of Gram-Negative bacteria was 2 mg ml-1 but minimal bactericidalconcentration of Gram-Positive bacteria was 4 mg ml- that means doubleinhibition concentration of Gram-negative bacteria. This study suggest that garlichave inhibition effect about Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative bacteria and garlicwas natural material found in Iraq and world wide with little side effect.

Background: Plant-derived compounds are sometimes used as substitutes for pharmaceuticals. Mauritia flexuosa is a palm tree that is widely distributed in South America, especially in the Amazon region. The San Martín region of Peru, in which this species of the Arecaceae family is found, has great biological diversity and there is economic potential in the utilization of natural resources in the region. Methods: In this study, the antibacterial effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Mauritia flexuosa leaves was evaluated for gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 and gram-negative Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica ser. Typhi ATCC 11011. Mauritia flexuosa leaves were used to prepare concentrations of 10, 20, 40 and 60mg/ml. Phytochemical analysis was performed to identify secondary metabolites in the plants. For the experiment, 10 Mueller-Hinton agar plates were prepared and 1ml of bacterial inoculum, standardized to 0.5 McFarland, was added to each plate. The hydroalcoholic extract was added via the diffusion method, making five holes of 5mm each (four with extract concentrations and one with distilled water as a control group), and the plates were incubated for 24 hours at 36°C. The inhibition halo was measured in mm using a digital vernier caliper. Results: For gram-negative bacteria, an antibacterial effect was demonstrated for Pseudomonas aeruginosa only, at an extract concentration of 60mg/ml, with an inhibition halo of 14.8 mm. For gram-positive bacteria Baccillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, an antibacterial effect was demonstrated at an extract concentration of 60mg/ml, with inhibition halos of 13.2mm and 15.4mm in diameter, respectively. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the hydroalcoholic extract of Mauritia flexuosa does not inhibit bacterial growth for gram-negative bacteria Salmonella Typhi and Escherichia coli.

On the other hand, Gram-positive bacteria were more susceptible than Gram-negative bacteria, the minimal bactericidal concentration of Gram-positive bacteria was 5 mg ml-1 but minimal bactericidal concentration of Gram-negative bacteria was 10 mg ml-1 that mean duble inhibation concentration of Gram-positive bacteria . this study suggest that Eruca sativa leaves have inhibation effect on Gram-Posative and Gram-Negative bacteria and Eruca sativa was natural material with little side effect.

Periplasm of bacteria is the space outside the permeability barrier of plasma membrane but enclosed by the cell wall. The contents of this special milieu exterior could be regulated by the plasma membrane from the internal, and by the cell wall from the external environment of the cell. Unlike the gram-negative organism, the presence of this space in gram-positive bacteria is still controversial because it cannot be clearly demonstrated. We have shown the importance of some periplasmic bodies in the secretion of penicillinase from Bacillus licheniformis.In negatively stained specimens prepared by a modified technique (Figs. 1 and 2), periplasmic space (PS) contained two kinds of structures: (i) fibrils (F, 100 Å) running perpendicular to the cell wall from the protoplast and (ii) an array of vesicles of various sizes (V), which seem to have evaginated from the protoplast.

Blood cultures are positive in approximately only 50 per cent of the patients with nongonococcal bacterial infectious arthritis and about 20 per cent of those with gonococcal arthritis. But the concept that gram-negative bacteria could be involved even in chronic arthritis is well-supported. Gram stains are more definitive in staphylococcal arthritis caused by gram-positive bacteria than in bacterial arthritis due to gram-negative bacteria. In the latter situation where gram-negative bacilli are the problem, Gram stains are helpful for 50% of the patients; they are only helpful for 25% of the patients, however, where gram-negative gonococci are the problem. In arthritis due to gram-positive Staphylococci. Gramstained smears are positive for 75% of the patients.

magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NPs) were prepared by simple wet chemical method using different calcination temperatures. The prepared NPs were characterized by Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). It demonstrates sharp intensive peak with the increase of crystallinty and increase of the size with varying morphologies with respect to increase of calcination temperature. Antibacterial studies were done on gram negative bacteria (E.coli) and gram positive bacteria (S.aureus) by agar disc diffusion method. The zones of inhibitions were found larger for gram positive bacteria than gram negative bacteria, this mean, antibacterial MgO NPs activity more active on gram positive bacteria than gram negative bacteria because of the structural differences. It was found that antibacterial activity of MgO NPs was found it has directly proportional with their concentration.

Research on hard coral (Scleractinian coral) contaminated with bacteria is still not much done, especially in Indonesian waters. This study took samples of coral mucus in 2010 at 3 (three) different locations, namely Bunaken (May); Morotai (September) and Raja Ampat (November), which focused on the analysis of Research on hard coral (Scleractinian coral) contaminated with bacteria is still not much done, especially in Indonesian waters. This study took samples of coral mucus in 2010 at 3 (three) different locations, namely Bunaken (May); Morotai (September) and Raja Ampat (November), which focused on the analysis of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The method used for field sampling is time swim, which is by diving at a depth of 5-10 meters for ± 30 minutes and randomly taking samples of coral mucus using siring or by taking directly on corals (reef branching). Mucus samples were analyzed by bacterial isolation in the laboratory. The result shows that there were differences between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in the three research sites and that gram-positive bacteria were higher or dominant. Further research that can identify the bacteria species and explain its relationship to the ecosystem is highly recommended.Keywords: Bacteria, Scleractinian coral, gram-positive and -negative, Bunaken, Morotai, Raja Ampat  AbstrakPenelitian tentang karang keras (Scleractinian coral) yang terkontaminasi bakteri masih belum banyak dilakukan, terutama di perairan Indonesia. Penelitian ini mengambil sampel mucus karang pada tahun 2010 di 3 (tiga) lokasi berbeda, yakni Bunaken (Mei); Morotai (September) dan Raja Ampat (November), yang difokuskan pada analisis bakteri gram postif dan gram negatif. Metode yang digunakan untuk pengambilan sampel di lapangan adalah time swim, yaitu dengan penyelaman pada kedalaman 5-10 meter selama ±30 menit dan mengambil sampel mucus karang secara acak menggunakan siring atau dengan mengambil langsung pada karang (fraksi cabang). Sampel mucus dianalisis dengan cara isolasi bakteri di laboratorium. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan antara bakteri gram positif dan gram negative di tiga lokasi survei dan bakteri gram positif lebih tinggi atau dominan. Penelitian lebih lanjut yang dapat menentukan jenis bakteri serta menjelaskan hubungannya dengan ekosistem sangat disarankan untuk dilakukan.Kata Kunci : Bakteri, Scleractinian coral, gram positif dan negatif, Bunaken, Morotai, Raja Ampat
