ZnO doped with 2~6 mol% Silver (Ag) photocatalyst thin films has been deposited on glass substrate by thermal spray coating with temperature deposition of 250°C. A gel of ZnO:Ag precursor has been synthesized by sol-gel route from aqueous/alcoholic solution of zinc acetate dehydrate and silver nitrate mixture at room temperature. The morphology of ZnO:Ag films were investigated scanning electron microscopy (SEM). 3D SEM images of ZnO:Ag thin films show the rough morphology with roughness mean square (rms) of 150 to 195 nm. The grain size of ZnO:Ag films were found in the range 76,5 to 304,8 nm. The photoactivity examination of ZnO:Ag photocatalyst films show the E. Coli bacteria degraded up to 99.99% under sunlight irradiation for 4 hours.

Sol-gel blends are created using a combination of a high refractive index (n∼2.4) TiO2 based sol-gel and a low refractive index (n∼1.5) SiO2 based sol-gel. The blends are prepared with different ratios of sol-gels and films are created using the spin coating method on silicon and ITO-on-glass substrates. The film thickness, refractive index, and dielectric constants of the resulting films are measured using profilometry, prism coupling, and LCR measurements, respectively. Results show that including more SiO2 based sol-gel in the initial mixture creates thicker films ranging from 1-7 μm, but results in lower refractive index and lower dielectric constants. This is consistent with expectations due to SiO2 having a lower refractive index and dielectric constant than titania over a range of wavelengths andfrequencies. The ability to fine tune the properties is explored.

TiO2 coating films were prepared by sol-gel dip coating method using TTiP precursors with and without ethanol as a medium to hydrolyze the HCl catalyst. The prepared samples of titanium dioxide (TiO2) coating were dried at 110°C for 30 minutes then heated at 500°C and 600°C for 1h and 3h respectively to study effect of annealing temperature and soaking time. The crystallinity of the TiO2 coating were identified by using X-ray Diffraction technique and crystallite size was calculated. Raman Spectroscopy also used as the confirmation of phases formation of TiO2 coating films. Crystallite size of TiO2 films were obtained at 12.35 nm, 17.29 nm for anatase, 21.71 nm, 28.95 nm for rutile and 2.19 nm for brookite. Thus, the establishment of the desired phases, crystallinity and grain size of TiO2 thin films sol-gel can be controlled and encouraging to explore as an effort toward producing a sustainable photocatalytic.
