The Ontario Consortium of Undergraduate Biology Educators (oCUBE) bringstogether over 50 biology educators from 18 Ontario universities with the commongoal to improve the biology undergraduate experience for both students andeducators. This goal is achieved through an innovative mix of highlyinteractive face-to-face meetings, online conferencing platforms (wiki andvideo conferencing), monthly online newsletters, and other activities. The beautyof the oCUBE model is that it meshes with the active learning methods that itsmembers use in their own teaching. It also creates a community of practice withintra- and inter-institutional collaborations that assist in resolving educationalissues of both common and immediate importance to oCUBE members. oCUBE membersreport that oCUBE activities and resources are very effective in helping themlearn new teaching strategies and in developing professionally.

“Scientia” is the investigation of something to acquire knowledge. This chapter is based on a number of engineering courses taught by the author in recent years. During the author’s delivery of lectures and tutorials, he took the opportunity to use real world applications and situations to arouse interest and enabled students to understand basic underlying principles before progressing to theoretical treatment and mathematical modeling. The abstract nature of the latter is often a hurdle in technical education. The author observes that students are most attuned to matters already in existence – things of common interest that exist in society at large and/or matters that can be found in nature. As soon as each principle is mastered, the author gradually adds more building blocks. The methodology and pace allow the confidence of his students to improve which leads to better motivation. This also provides students with the ability to look deeper into concepts and creates a virtuous environment for both teaching and learning.

Internet Resources and Technologies have become an integral part o f education globally. Computer education and computer in education are two aspects o f technology that enhanced Teaching and Learning o f Vocational and Technical subjects. In addition, it stressed the importance o f teaching and learning o f Vocational and Technical Education (VTED) in technology fantasy environment using simulation, interactive, explorative, and subject specific software. It highlighted the impact o f using internet and technologies in the unification o f some modern teaching strategies, the barriers faced by developing nations, and urges schools to expand their libraries to include ICT unit for universal access. Some recommendations were forwarded which includes: Internet facilities and computers should be provided in all vocational and technical institutions o f learning, and powerful broadband servers should be provided that will stand the test o f time.

Career and vocational educators (CTE) need to find ways to foster online communities of practice (CoP) in order to optimize learning and application of knowledge to real workplaces. Not only do students engage more actively in their learning, but they gain from multiple perspectives, and can develop more complex projects with the help of others. Instruction needs to be designed to help students get to know each other, and collaborate. Technological tools can facilitate such interaction, overcoming time and space issues. Particularly as WebWeb 2.0 tools facilitate collaboration, online CoPs can thrive. Nevertheless, equity issues of physical and intellectual access need to be considered when creating such online learning environments.
