There are 11 players in beer industry operating in Kenya. The research therefore took the form of a census study covering all the players in the beer industry in Kenya since the population of 11 firms was considered small enough. Eleven questionnaires were given out though only 10 were considered fit for data analysis. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Findings indicated that players in beer industry in Kenya were faced by several forces that shape competition. These included competitive rivalry, threat of new entrants, bargaining power of suppliers and customers, globalization, regulation and information technology. Players in beer industry in Kenya used cost leadership strategy as a competitive strategy since they attempt to reduce their operational costs in order to deliver the product at the lowest prices. Players in beer industry in Kenya also used focus as a competitive strategy since they have products for different types of consumers. It was also possible to infer from this study that players in beer industry in Kenya used value disciplines as a competitive strategy.Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommended that players in beer industry should carry out constant environment scanning so as to be able to identify the various forces that affect their operations. In addition, they needed to adopt strategic planning as a tool for planning against any unforeseen events that may destabilize the operations of the company.  Finally, it was recommended that these players needed to continue using the various competitive strategies. However, they also needed to factor in the concept of strategy fit by considering the internal capabilities and resources of the firm.

Despite the importance of green innovation, empirical evidence on its relationship with firm performance is mixed. This study endeavors to address this inconsistency in the evidence by investigating the value-capturing role of competitive strategy. It argues that firms tend to choose appropriate a competitive strategy to maximize performance of green innovation, especially in highly competitive contexts. We collected data from 195 firms in China. Our results suggest that the performance implications of green innovation (including green product innovation and green process innovation) are moderated by competitive strategies (including differentiation strategy and cost-leadership strategy), and these moderating effects are more prominent when competitive intensity is high. The findings of this study enrich theoretical understanding both of green innovation and of competitive strategy and have practical implications for green innovation management.

This study examines the relationships between competitive strategies, resources/capabilities and organisational performance in construction organisations. The main objective is to establish the mediating role of competitive strategies on the strength of relationship between resources, capabilities and performance of large construction business organisations in South Africa. A survey instrument was administered to Grades 7, 8 and 9 construction organisations listed in the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb) database. 72 usable questionnaires were analysed using descriptive statistics and correlations. The results show that organisational resources and capabilities do not exert a direct impact on performance of construction organisations, but technological resources showed significant relationship, when mediated by competitive strategy. This implies that performance of large construction organisations is contingent upon their competitive strategies and organisational capabilities, for them to achieve performance excellence. Furthermore, differentiation strategy influences an organisations’ financial performance negatively whereas cost-leadership strategy has a positive impact. It provides empirical evidence on the relationship between competitive strategy and organisational resources/capabilities in a new setting.

The authors investigated several import retail e-commerce sellers through questionnaires and selected several types of variables based on Porter's competitive strategy theory. Then the authors used the panel data to empirically verify theoretical consumptions based on samples got by Python method from Jingdong Global Purchases and Tmall International, the top two e-commerce platforms in China. Results validated the three major competitive strategies that could enhance the competitive advantages to import retail e-commerce sellers. As it was not applied to all platforms and commodities, sellers should make different strategies through different platforms and commodities. This article has theoretical significance that filled in the gaps on import retail e-commerce sellers' competition. It also has certain practical significance by providing references for sellers on how to improve their competitive advantages, promote healthy competition and development of the import retail e-commerce, even to facilitate the structure adjustment of consumption and foreign trade in China.

Every individual irrespective of their profession, requires requisite training to enable them to do a particular job with reasonable accuracy, achieving desired results. Mid-school is the stage between primary basic education and the tertiary level and in Kenya it is referred to as secondary education that is evaluated with a national examination (KCSE) at the end of the four years. Teachers’ role in a students’ performance cannot be underestimated where students with or without disabilities are subjected to the same national examinations. Performance in the national special schools in Kenya does not compare favorably with that of ordinary national schools irrespective of same caliber of teachers in both. This necessitated an empirical inquiry into whether there is need for extra training for teachers in special schools. The study sought to establish the influence of teacher training on the performance of special schools in Kenya. The performance of a school is measured based on the overall mean attained in KSCE examinations. The study focused on the national schools that are in the category of special schools in Kenya. The study is anchored on Behaviorist theory which states that learning is a function of change in overt behavior. A cross-sectional descriptive survey was carried out where data was collected using a self-administered semi structured questionnaire. Study findings indicate that 76.6% of variation in performance is predicted by training implying that relevant training of teachers in special schools is critical in achieving the expected learning outcomes with quality grades in KCSE that are pivotal in determining learners’ career paths. The study recommends creating an enabling environment and support to teachers willing to pursue training in special education. Further research should be done to determine how the subsector can be adequately funded both for initial and on-the-job special teacher training for special needs schools.
