The environmental literature has focused on examining how firms leverage environmental innovation to convert environmental challenges into driving forces of competitive advantage. This paper enhances the knowledge on the implementation of environmental strategies in the Malaysian manufacturing industry by examining the impacts of environmental shared vision and environmental strategic focus on competitive advantage in the greening of the industry. The Smart PLS technique was used to analyse data collected from 124 Malaysian manufacturing firms on their environmental strategies as well as their implications for competitive advantage and environmental innovation. The findings suggest that environmental innovation mediates the positive exchange between firms’ environmental strategies and competitive advantage. The study provides valuable information for manufacturers in crafting their corporate competitive strategies, policies, and action plans. The direct and indirect roles of environmental innovation in fostering competitive advantage suggest that manufacturers should prioritise their environmental activities by enhancing innovation outcomes to achieve a successful green business status.

A firm's competitive behavior is very important for its survival. Relevant stakeholders in an industry are interested in a firm's operational as well as financial performance. In order to gain competitive advantage, a firm must remain steadfast during changes it goes through over time. This is true for the computer industry as well. The computer industry has been advancing very fast and firms in the industry are experiencing fierce competition for many reasons. This study examines the computer industry in terms of Michael Porter's framework for analyzing the profitability. The authors conduct a critical analysis of the threat of new entrants into the computer industry segment, the bargaining power of suppliers in the industry, the bargaining power of buyers in the industry, the threat of substitute products or services, and rivalry among competitors in the industry. This study has implications for incumbent firms and new entrants into the computer manufacturing industry that evaluate competitive strategies in the industry.

Accelerated response to competition with appropriate actions is one of the major determinants for a firm's sustenance and survival. Both operational and financial performances in terms of gaining and/or keeping competitive advantage always remain under the watchful eyes of the relevant stakeholders in an industry. A firm has to be very vigilant to cope with the internal and external changes it faces over the different phases of its growth. Just like any other industry, this is equally true, in fact more true for the computer industry as well. Continuous innovation in the computer industry has made it a very fast growing and fiercely competitive industry in the field of modern technologies. Firms in this industry always have to be on their toes to tackle the fierce competition created due to many obvious reasons. This study examines the computer industry in the light of Michael Porter's framework for analyzing the profitability. Threats of new entrants and substitute products, bargaining power of both suppliers and buyers, and regular rivalry among the competitors have been analyzed critically. This study may have significant implications in evaluating the competitive strategies developed and applied by the incumbent firms in and the new entrants into the computer manufacturing industry.

Purpose This study aims at investigating the effect of psychological empowerment on job burnout and competitive advantage with the mediating role of organizational commitment and creativity. Design/methodology/approach The statistical population included all the managers and staffs of Tooka Company in Iran, and for data analysis, 120 completed questionnaires were used. Data analysis was carried out by SPSS 18 and Amos 20 software and structural equation modeling method. To test the mediating relationships, bootstrap method was used. Findings The findings showed that psychological empowerment has a significant direct effect on job burnout and competitive advantage. Also, psychological empowerment has a significant indirect effect on job burnout through the mediating role of organizational commitment. In addition, psychological empowerment has a significant indirect effect on competitive advantage through the mediating role of organizational creativity. Originality/value This study is among the first to investigate the relationship between psychological empowerment, job burnout, competitive advantage, organizational commitment and creativity.

This study aims to investigate the direct impact of green motives (GM) and green business strategies (GBS) on sustainable development (SD) in the hospitality sector. It explores the direct links between GM and SD. Moreover, the mediating role of GBS between GM and SD was tested. The research relies on the stakeholders’ theory, which states that the organization’s success and future development depends on the satisfaction of stakeholders. Data were collected from 451 top managers and owners from 54 hotels (5, 4 and 3-star hotels) operating in Pakistan. Quantitative analysis including correlation, regression, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model techniques were used. The mediating role of GBS was assessed using the bootstrapping method. Results proved that GM and GBS enable hotel industry to achieve the targets of SD. Finding also proved that GBS act as a mediator between the GM and SD link. The hotel industry needs attention to achieve the targets of SD and customers’ inclination towards more hygienic and environmental issues after the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic situation has forced the hotel industry to adapt GBS initiated through GM. The current research articulated this upcoming issue and offered a SD model for the hotel industry.

To gain the competitive advantage, it has become essential for manufacturing industry to use its resources effectively, efficiently and economically. It is required to understand that such resources are based on 5 Ms (manpower, methods, materials, money, and machinery). In this study an apparel industry was selected to create a directorial plan by using the ideologies of resource management to improve the process efficiency. For this the data related to the product layout, operation plan, and process flow was collected. Time motion study was performed for aspect analysis. Information regarding operation, number of machines and efficiency of the production line was evaluated. The proposed plan successfully increase the efficiency up to 10%. It also shows an improvement in effective utilization of manpower and money.

The article summarizes the arguments and counterarguments about the peculiarities of formation of competitive advantages on the services market in Ukraine on the example of consulting. Assessment of the development of consulting services market in Ukraine was conducted for ten years (2010; 2011; 2012; 2013; 2013; 2014; 2015; 2016; 2017; 2018; 2019, 2020). Methodology. The use of methods of analysis, synthesis and graphical representation allowed for a theoretical study of the formation of competitive advantages. The use of methods of economic, heuristic and strategic analysis became the basis for estimating the market of consulting services in Ukraine and working out practical recommendations for its development. Results. The author's understanding of the concept of "competitive advantages of the company", the factors of their formation and described the relationship of competitive strategies with the process of their formation. Analysis of the market of consulting services in Ukraine revealed its immaturity, exacerbated by the economic crisis, as well as the institutional vulnerability of consulting. The reasons of unstable demand for consulting services are described. According to the results of the expert assessment the Top 15 Ukrainian consulting companies (2020) out of 102 were determined. The leadership matrix of these companies is built depending on their role in the target market, taking into account the typology of competitive strategies of F. Kotler. The analysis showed the transformation of consulting in Ukraine under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the broad interest in digital and HR consulting. Practical recommendations for the development of the market of consulting services in Ukraine are presented. Practical implications. It is proposed to include the following factors in the formation of the competitive advantages of the consulting company: the quality of services, competence of consultants and productivity of the company. The main competitive advantage is the competence of consultants, the level of which affects the quality of services, the results of the company and its customers. To strengthen the competitive advantage it is recommended to use the standard of consulting services in the activities of Ukrainian companies. Value/originality. The results of the study can be useful for any consulting company wishing to improve its competitiveness and expand the market for its services.


With recent advancements in information technology, organizations’ capability to acquire and analyze data for efficient decision making has increased. Good strategies promote alignment among processes and technology in use, which may result in better firm performance. However, there has been little focus on how firm strategies and business intelligence (BI) systems might play their part in forming organizational information and getting a competitive edge. Therefore, the purpose of conducting this study is to investigate the impact of firm strategy on firm competitive advantage with mediating role of BI adoption and moderating role of BI capabilities. For this, a quantitative research methodology was used, and data was collected from 300 middle-level managers in Pakistan's telecom sector. Statistical tests such as descriptive statistics, correlation, reliability analysis, one-way ANOVA, confirmatory factor analysis, and mediation analysis through Hayes process were performed using SPSS and AMOS. The findings revealed a positive link between firm strategy and competitive advantage, with business intelligence adoption serving as a mediating factor. Business intelligence capabilities positively moderate the relationship between BI adoption and competitive advantage. Hence, all proposed hypotheses (H1, H2, and H3) were approved. The contribution and Limitation of the study are also discussed.

Servitisation studies in extant literature contribute to the resource-based view and relational view where industrial organisation view was largely ignored due to the focus on individual manufacturing units. In international business industry, competitiveness is required to enhance the performance of individual organisations. Following post-positivism epistemology, a multi-case study approach has been employed in this study. The unit of analysis is the network consisting of manufacture, supplier and the customer. Two such units of apparel manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka and two units from textile manufacturing industry in Taiwan were selected. This study establishes the link between servitised industry and national competitive advantage. The collaboration with suppliers, indirect competitors and other partners were identified as critical factors to differentiate a business-to-business (B2B) manufacturing industry in an international business.
