Purpose: the purpose of the study is to establish the influence of electronic procurement practices on supply chain performance. Methodology: The researcher employed a method of reviewing desktop literature. To assess the feasibility of the subject for testing, three processing stages were applied on the subject under review. This was the first step of the original identification of all papers based on the effect of electronic sourcing activities on the efficiency of the supply chain. A second quest covered fully available literature on the issue of e-procurement processes and efficiency of the supply chain. The third stage included the collection of journals that were freely available. The researcher arrived at 12 papers that were relevant for review after an in-depth quest into the top key terms (e-procurement processes, supply chain management, performance). Findings: Procurement performance is the backbone of an organization success since it contributes to competitive purchase and acquisition of quality goods that puts the organization products or services in the competitive edge in the market. In the analysis of the use of e-procurement on performance of the procurement functions of county governments in Kenya, the results revealed that e-procurement is positively related with performance of supply chain function of County Governments in Kenya. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study therefore recommended that the Government come up with policies on adoption of e-procurement practices and provide critical resources and leadership in adoption of e-procurement. It is recommended that in order to achieve maximum benefits of reduced order processing time, reduced costs, reduced human errors and improved delivery, management should enhance electronic system and insist on all orders being processed electronically.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of clearing and forwarding management systems on supply chain performance of FMCG manufacturers in Kenya Methodology: The study adopted descriptive research design. The unit of observation was the operations manager of the 51 FMCG manufacturers located in Nairobi. The sampling frame of the current study consisted of operations managers in the manufacturers of the FMCGs in Nairobi. The study used the census method to select 51 manufacturers of the FMCGs in Nairobi, thus the sample of the study was 51 respondents. Primary data was used in the study. The study used questionnaires to collect data. Mixed methods technique of analyzing data was used where both descriptive and inferential analysis were used. The data collected from the field was analyzed using SPSS 23 program. The questionnaires were referenced and the items in them coded for easier data entry. The presentation of the findings was done using tables. Results: The study found that inventory management systems positively and significantly influences Supply chain performance of FMCG in Kenya. The study also established that there are challenges faced by use of clearing and forwarding in logistics management systems. There is the challenge of cost forwarding; the most common currency used is US dollar which changes at any particular time and therefore affecting the freight cost. This also affects the price of customer goods and the charges by the bank. Another challenge is with service charges and fees. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommended that the government to adjust regulations and create a business environment that allows the process of clearing and forwarding to be efficient, straight forward and quick. here is also need for the government to develop systems and software that allows transparency and ease in submission of documents and therefore reduce the clearing time. It is also important for the government to ensure that there are clear regulations by custom department and ensure that the employees in this department are well knowledgeable of their task and are well organized and motivated to conduct their duties.

PurposeTheorising from the intersection of supply chain and information systems (IS) literature, this study aims to investigate supply chain integration (SCI) as a multidimensional construct in the context of cloud-based technology and explores the effect of cloud-enabled SCI on supply chain performance, which will eventually improve firm sustainability from a resource-based view (RBV). In addition, the moderating effect of top management is explored.Design/methodology/approachUsing cross-sectional survey data collected from a sample of 105 Australian retail firms, this study used structural equation modelling to test the hypothesised relationship of cloud-enabled SCI with performance in a theoretical model.FindingsResults show that cloud-based technology has positive effect on SCI, and the cloud-enabled SCI is positively related to supply chain performance which eventually influenced firm sustainability. Further, top management intervention moderates the relationship between supplier and internal integration with supply chain performance. But it is found to have no moderating effect on the relationship between customer integration and supply chain performance.Practical implicationsRecognising the potential benefits of emerging cloud-based technologies reported in this study, retail managers need to understand that higher order SCI requires the support of cloud-based technology to improve supply chain performance and firm sustainability.Originality/valueThis research extends prior research of information and communication technologies-enabled SCI and its effect on supply chain performance which overly remains inconsistent. In addition, IS literature abounds with discussion on cloud computing technologyper se, and its adoption in supply chain is overly rhetoric. This study fills this gap by conceptualising the multiple dimensions of SCI enabled by cloud-based technology and the way it affects supply chain and firm sustainable performance. Investigating SCI in context of cloud-based technology is a unique contribution in this study. The moderating effect of top management in this decision also adds to the current body of literature.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine influence of critical success factors on performance of county governments in Kenya with an aim of making recommendations on proper use.Methodology: The study employed a descriptive research design, targeting 163 procurement officers in the 5 of 13 county governments in Kenya which had a budget allocation of above Kshs 8 Billion according to FY 2017/2018 budgetary allocation by the National Treasury, the five were chosen because of their close proximity to Nairobi. The researcher preferred this method because it allows an in-depth study of the subject. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Quantitative data was analyzed using multiple regression analysisResults: The independent variables reported R value of .846 indicating that there is perfect relationship between dependent variable and independent variables. R square value of 0.716 which means that 71.6% of the corresponding variation in supply chain performance of the county governments can be explained or predicted by (quality index management, asset utilization management, schedule management and cost metrics management) which indicated that the model fitted the study data. The results of regression analysis revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between dependent variable and independent variable at (β = 1.240), p=0.00 <0.05).Conclusion: The study therefore establishes that; quality index management, asset utilization management, schedule management and cost metrics management influence supply chain performance of county governments.Policy recommendation: The study recommends that procurement officers should ensure that they strictly follow operational procedures to ensure that projects undertaken are of the right quality, in the right quantity, at the right time, to the right place from the right source. This will aim at satisfaction of customers in terms of cost, quality, and timeliness of the delivered product or service, minimizing administrative operating costs.

The pandemic has an impact on almost all sectors of people's lives, in the economic, political, and socio-cultural sectors. The government has implemented large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) as an effort to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. With the PSBB, it causes disruption to the hospital supply chain management. As a step to anticipate the hospital's impact on the PSBB, the hospital needs to evaluate the performance of supply chain management. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the performance evaluation of hospital supply chain management using a balanced scorecard approach. A new finding from this study is to measure the performance of hospitals experiencing various disruptions in their supply chain management caused by the COVID-19 pandemic with a balanced scorecard. The author concludes that measurements with the balanced scorecard approach can provide information about the performance of hospital supply chain management broadly in areas experiencing disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study considers samples from the South African engineering companies who are strategic suppliers to mining and minerals industry and further explores the uncertainties persisting in the supply chain network. Further investigation was done to understand the role of big data and predictive analysis (BDPA) in managing the supply uncertainties. The paper finally uses partial least square regression analysis to study the relationship among buyer-supplier relationship, big data and predictive analysis and supply chain performance. The analysis supported the second and third hypothesis. Therefore, it is established that firstly, there is a positive relationship between big data, predictive analysis and supply chain performance and secondly, there is a positive relationship between and big data, predictive analysis and buyer-supplier relationship. The study is a unique contribution to the current literature by shedding light on the practical problems persisting in the South African context.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the contributions of Government regulations  to financial distress facing Local Authorities in Kenya.Methodology: A descriptive research design was used to conduct the study. The study population comprised of the 175 Local Authorities in Kenya. A sample of 20 Local Authorities was selected using a stratified random sampling technique. A questionnaire was used to collect data from both the Local Authorities officers and customers of Local Authorities.   The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Qualitative responses were analyzed using content analysis. Results: Results indicated that the government regulation on Local Authority was unfair and ineffective. Results further indicated that the inadequacy or biased government regulation contributed to financial distress in Local Authorities. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommended that, the sources of revenue that were taken away from the Local Authorities should be reverted back to them or the government to increase funding to LA’s. Officers also suggested that some of the Acts that divert funds to other ministries/departments should be reviewed. It was also recommended that a portion of corporation tax that is paid to the government should be devolved to LA’s. The Local Authorities also need to be given more powers to increase their sources of revenue. It was also recommended that perhaps the law should be amended to enable the setting up of an anticorruption committee at the Local Authority level.  In addition, it was suggested that cap 265 should be amended so as to divorce politics from running of LA’s.Most importantly, it was recommended that the government should liaise with the Local Authorities and conduct comprehensive consultation on how a certain law would affect them before passing it. Further regulations and amendments to the existing laws should be critically examined to avoid watering the revenue base of the newly formed county governments.

The study found that the respondents were in agreement that warehouse management system helps to reduce picking errors; warehouse management system facilities the maximum use of storage space; warehouse management system helps to optimize stock control; warehouse management system improves work productivity; and that warehouse management system guide workers through risk assessments and flag up warehouse safety requirements. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommended that when warehouse management systems are improved, supply chain performance of the company improves as well. The study recommends management of the company to ensure they remain informed on the changes in the market to ensure that their warehouse management system is up-to-date and therefore avoid process redundancy and inaccurate inventories. There is a need to use strategic approach in practices of managing logistics by embracing modernized technology and training of employees on the use of the same.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between logistics management systems and supply chain performance of fast-moving consumer goods manufacturers in, Kenya Methodology: The study used descriptive research design was The study targeted the operations managers of the 51 FMCG manufacturers located in Nairobi. The sample size was 51 respondents who were selected using the census method. Questionnaires were used for data collection. For comprehension, logic and relevance, 5 respondents were used in pre-testing the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics will be used to analyze quantitative data. In order to test the significance of the effect of the predictor variables on response variables, the study used multiple linear regressions. Data collected was analyzed using SPSS version 23 and presentation of the findings done using figures, tables and charts. Results: The study found that warehouse management systems positively and significantly influences Supply chain performance of FMCG in Kenya; inventory management systems positively and significantly influences Supply chain performance of FMCG in Kenya; transportation management systems positively and significantly influence Supply chain performance of FMCG in Kenya; clearing and forwarding management systems have positive significant relationship with Supply chain performance of FMCG in Kenya; and information technology has a positive significant influence on the relationship between logistics management systems and supply chain performance of FMCG manufacturers in Kenya. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommends management of the company to ensure they remain informed on the changes in the market to ensure that their warehouse management system is up-to-date and therefore avoid process redundancy and inaccurate inventories. There is a need to use strategic approach in practices of managing logistics by embracing modernized technology and training of employees on the use of the same. Companies should automate their scheduling process this will lead to fewer interventions by the management and therefore lowering any chances of delays. It is also important for the government to ensure that there are clear regulations by custom department and ensure that the employees in this department are well knowledgeable of their task and are well organized and motivated to conduct their duties.

The management of a supply chain is both an offensive and defensive weapon that organisations can use to increase their competitive edge and capture a larger share of the market. In management science and supply chain management, multi-criteria decision making techniques have been used to solve a range of real-world problems. The problem is that many, if not most, companies in South Africa either do not have the required skills to use these decision-making techniques to improve or re-configure their supply chain, or they do not have a complete data set with which to model it effectively. In order to manage supply chains effectively, organisations at the very least need feedback on the performance of their entire supply chain. In this article, generic supply chain performance measures were used and a theoretical or empirical model was developed for the performance measurement of a national egg producer’s supply chain. It focused on a managerial program for the identification and management of their supply chain with recommendations for applying a measurement model. The overall performance of the supply chain as well as the five different performance attributes was presented to management in a dashboard format. This article could be used as a basis for future studies of supply chain performance measurement and the model could be used as a foundation for developing an improved version, not only for the egg industry, but for other industries as well.

With the complexity of organizations increasing, it is becoming vitally important that organizations understand how knowledge is created and shared around their core business processes. However, many organizations deploy technology without due consideration for how their employees access, create, and share information and knowledge. This article explores the subject empirically through the study of how employees work with information and knowledge around a core business function—in this case a supply chain process. In order to do this, the organization needs to be viewed from a network perspective as it relates to specific business processes. Viewing the organization in this way enabled the author to see how employees’ preferred knowledge and information transfer mechanisms varied across the core process. In some cases, the identified transfer mechanisms where at odds with the prescribed organization wide mechanisms. However, when the organization considered the employees’ preferred transfer mechanisms as part of an overall process improvement, the E2E supply chain performance was seen to improve significantly.
