Family cohesion and depression in adolescents: a mediating role of self-confidence

Abstract Objective: To identify the mediating role of self-confidence in family cohesion and depression in adolescents. Methods: The cross-sectional research design was used and study was conducted in the mainstream government schools of Lahore. A sample of 394 adolescents (boys = 54%, girls = 46%), aged 12-19 years (M = 14.76; SD = 1.39) recruited through multistage sampling strategy. Family Cohesion Scale, Self-confidence Scale and Depression Scale for Adolescents were used to measure family cohesion, self-confidence and depression respectively. Results: A significant positive association between family cohesion and self-confidence (p < .001), and a significant negative association of family cohesion (p < .001) and self-confidence (p < .01) with depression was found. Moreover, mediation analysis revealed that self-confidence partially mediates the relationship between family cohesion and depression (p = .01). Conclusion: Early and timely identification of risk factors can prevent from serious consequences of depression in adolescents. Keywords: Family cohesion, self-confidence, depression, adolescents.

The study investigates the relationship between psychological ownership with subjective happiness of the employees. The study also examines the mediating role of work engagement in order to explain the relationship between subjective happiness and psychological ownership at workplace.  The purposive sampling techniques have been used with cross sectional design in order to collection data. Mediation analysis was conducted on SPSS by using sample of 271 employees from leading telecommunication companies working in Pakistan. The results showed that psychological ownership has significant positive association with subjective happiness of the employees. Further, work engagement significantly positively mediates this relationship. The present research contributes on the literature of psychological ownerships and subjective happiness and provides possible solutions for maintaining positive atmosphere of psychological ownership that ultimately increase the subjective happiness of the employees.

This research aims to determine the mediating role of social deficits in self-criticism and aggression using a sample of 695 adolescents (girls = 49%, boys = 51%), aged 12 to 19 years ( M = 14.97, SD = 1.30) from an urbanized city of Pakistan. Interpersonal Difficulties Scale, Self-Criticism Scale, and Aggressive Behavior Scale were used in the present study. Results indicated a significant positive association of social deficits with self-criticism and aggression ( p < .001). Furthermore, findings also suggested a significant positive association between self-criticism and aggression. Mediation analysis revealed that self-criticism partially mediated the relationship between social deficits and aggression. Findings are discussed in terms of the expression and manifestation of self-criticism, social deficits, and aggression in adolescents in collectivistic cultures.

The determination of this research is to examine the effect of Islamic work ethics on job performance and intrinsic motivation. This study also try to investigate the mediating role of intrinsic motivation on the association between Islamic Work Ethics and job performance. Nonprobability sampling, method was used. Data were collected through adopted questionnaires from 310 teachers of different Universities situated in Malakand Division, KP-Pakistan. SPSS and AMOS were used for Statistical tests. Empirical results indicate that there is a significant positive association between Islamic work ethics, Job performance and intrinsic motivation. The study determined that the idea of Islamic work ethics works as a therapy for the emergent ethical crisis of education sector of Pakistan which should be pervaded in organizational culture for sustainable job performance and growth. Further, study explain that intrinsic motivation mediates the association between Islamic Work Ethics and Job Performance. Implications and upcomingstudy recommendations are discuss in the conclusion.

Companies that organize family entertainment activities caught the attention of researchers during the COVID-19 pandemic, as family entertainment became one of the main ways to relieve stress and dispel boredom during quarantine. Employees are a key asset for these companies, which ensures their market competition, and therefore the demand for entertainment services depends on the productivity and quality of their work to some extent. The purpose of this study is to determine the mediating effects of motivation in the relationship between discipline, competence, and employee performance. The number of samples used is 142 respondents from family entertainment employees in Jakarta, Indonesia. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires using a 5-point Likert scale. The data of the survey were analyzed and interpreted with Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). This study finds non-significant positive associations between discipline and employee performance but a significant positive association between discipline and motivation. The result indicates that competence has a direct effect on motivation and employee performance. Meanwhile, motivation (as a mediator variable) has a partial and full mediating effect, in which discipline and competence are independent variables, and employee performance is a dependent variable. Findings from this study can be used to address productivity problems in family entertainment companies. It was revealed that companies can grow and develop through discipline and competence, which lead to increased employee performance.

Growing use of fiberglass admixture in construction along with automotive industries has escalated demand of fiberglass among the firms and fueling them with the innovational strategy in order to be competitive. Fiberglass businesses being one of the high-tech sectors have to consider many domains. Although, due to the inflexibility of employees, the absence of innovative atmosphere and monopolistic composition, employees are unwilling to be innovative in organizations. The current study argued that strategic management of new HRM practices through enhancing more skillful, talented, committed, motivated can further innovation and innovational employees that helps in higher productivity of the organization. However, to demonstrate this connection is insufficient in terms of empirical evidence. Consequently, the main objective of this investigation to examine role of strategic management of New HRM practices on innovation performance followed by the mediation of organizational innovation. Data has collected from Bahrain’s manufacturing sector of fiberglass that came up with significant positive association between the endogenous and exogenous variables.

Youth is the backbone of any society. Their mental health is worsening in these terrible times of pandemic. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate a relationship between fear of COVID-19 and psychological distress, and whether this relationship was mediated by social interaction anxiety. A cross-sectional research design was used to recruit online 200 university students of Lahore, Pakistan through Google docs via purposive sampling technique by introducing them to a demographic questionnaire consisting of fear of COVID-19, social interaction anxiety and psychological distress scales respectively. The sample included both male and female students (men =53%, women =46%) whose age ranged from 17-24 years (M = 21.04, SD = 2.52). Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 25. Pearson Product moment correlation and mediation analysis were used to analyze data. It was found that there was a significant positive association between fear of COVID-19 and psychological distress. The findings also revealed that social interaction anxiety fully mediated the association between psychological distress and fear of COVID-19. It is recommended that counselors and psychologists develop social support programs that can assist students to manage themselves well in the present pandemic environment.

The Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) of firms is broadly described as a dimension of strategic posture and important part for enhancing firm Performance. The current study investigated the effect of Entrepreneurial orientation and its dimensional factors (Innovativeness, Risk-taking, Pro-activeness, Competitive Aggressiveness and Autonomy) on firm Performance with the mediating effect of Innovation Performance. Based on data from SMEs, the results indicated that EO has a significant positive association with firm execution. First, Entrepreneurial orientation focus on grown-up economy was expanded, taking a step in the direction of the applicability of the Entrepreneurial Orientation idea in the growing economy perspective. Second, it was explored how Innovation performance connected with SMEs performance and competitive power control the association between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance. The most important objectives of these studies are to establish the level of Entrepreneurial Orientation on SME and create the influence of this orientation on firms performance. The Research study also represents policy and practice that give a source for entrepreneurial orientation decision and actions. In other words, it was established that EO helps SMEs owners to act entrepreneurially

AbstractThe present study was carried out to determine whether the dietary insulin index (DII) and dietary insulin load (DIL) are related to psychological disorders in a cross-sectional study among adults. A total of 3172 Iranian adults (age range of 18–55 years) were included. Data on dietary intakes were collected using a validated dish-based 106-item semi-quantitative FFQ. DII and DIL were calculated using food insulin index values published earlier. To assess depression and anxiety, an Iranian validated version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was used. Furthermore, psychological distress was examined using the General Health Questionnaire. Among women, a significant positive association was seen; such that women in the highest quartile of DIL had higher odds of depression than those in the lowest quartile (OR 1·84; 95 % CI 1·14, 2·96). In terms of DII, in the fully adjusted model, women in the top quartile of DII were more likely to be depressed compared with those in the bottom quartile (OR 1·65; 95 % CI 1·05, 2·58). In conclusion, we found a significant positive association between DIL and DII and odds of depression among women, but not in men. However, such findings were not seen for anxiety and psychological distress.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing is important to HIV prevention, treatment, and care. We aimed to assess the role of sociodemographic, behavioral factors and HIV knowledge on HIV testing among people aged 15–49 years in Nepal. The 2011 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey data was used for secondary data analysis. Herein, 9843 women and 3017 men who had experienced coitus were included. The respondents were asked if they underwent HIV testing and received the test results in their lifetime. Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression analysis were applied at 5% level of significance. Adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were computed separately for women and men. Of the total, 18.0% of men and 7.4% of women had been tested for HIV in their lifetime. As compared to the age of 15 to 24 years, males aged 25 to 29 years were more likely to report, whereas females aged 35 to 49 years were less likely to report HIV testing. Lower caste groups had more likelihood of reporting HIV testing than the other caste in both sexes. The odds of being tested for HIV were significantly higher among those who had higher education in both sexes. There was significant positive association between HIV testing and economic status in males whereas this association was reverse among females. The male respondents who spent more than one month away from home in the last 12 months were 1.68 times more likely to have been tested for HIV in their lifetime. Having multiple sexual partners was associated with higher odds of testing for HIV in both sexes. Having comprehensive HIV knowledge was independently associated with the reporting of higher odds of HIV testing in females. Promotion of HIV testing should consider sociodemographic factors, sexual behavior, and imparting comprehensive HIV knowledge.

Given the aging of the global population, the experience of adult children preparing to care for their aging parents is increasingly valued. In this article, I not only examined the associations between Taiwanese adult children’s attachment relationships with parents and their experience of filial anxiety but also took a psychocultural perspective to explore the mediating role of filial piety, the most representative value in the Chinese family. I collected survey data from 1305 middle-aged Taiwanese adults over 40 years old whose father or mother was alive and over 65 years old. The results from the first model for both father–child and mother–child datasets showed that secure attachment relationships with parents had a significant positive association with adults’ parental-welfare-focused filial anxiety B (FAB) but a significant negative association with their caregiver-role-focused filial anxiety A (FAA). The results from the second analysis indicated that secure attachment relationships with parents, for both father–child and mother–child datasets, had a significant positive association with adults’ endorsement of reciprocal filial piety beliefs, which significantly related to higher levels of FAB but lower levels of FAA. For both the father–child and mother–child datasets, secure attachment relationships with parents also had a significant positive association with their endorsement of authoritarian filial piety beliefs. Subsequently, their endorsement of authoritarian filial piety belief significantly related to a higher level of FAB in only the mother–child dataset. In conclusion, these findings broaden the understanding of adult children’s experience of filial anxiety that could be related to their attachment relationship with parents and their endorsement of reciprocal and authoritarian filial piety.
