It is challenging to accurately judge the actual end position of the manipulator—regarded as a rigid body—due to the influence of micro-deformation. Its precise and efficient control is a crucial problem. To solve the problem, the Hamilton principle was used to establish the partial differential equation (PDE) dynamic model of the manipulator system based on the infinite dimension of the working environment interference and the manipulator space. Hence, it resolves the common overflow instability problem in the micro-deformable manipulator system modeling. Furthermore, an infinite-dimensional radial basis function neural network compensator suitable for the dynamic model was proposed to compensate for boundary and uncertain external interference. Based on this compensation method, a distributed boundary proportional differential control method was designed to improve control accuracy and speed. The effectiveness of the proposed model and method was verified by theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and experimental verification. The results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the response speed while ensuring accuracy.

This paper specifically addresses the effect of the sintering temperature curve in manufacturing nickel powder capillary structure (wick) for a loop heat pipe (LHP) with flat evaporator. The sintering temperature curve is composed of three regions: a region of increasing temperature, a region of constant temperature, and a region of decreasing temperature. The most important region is the increasing temperature region, as the rate of temperature increase directly affects the performance of the wick.When the slope of the region of increasing temperature is 0.8 (equivalent to 8 OC/min), the structure of the manufactured wick is complete, with the best heat transfer performance result. Experimental resultsshowed that the optimal heat transfer performance is 160W, the minimal total thermal resistance is approximately 0.43OC/W, and the heat flux is 17W/cm2; the optimal wick manufactured has an effective pore radius of 5.2 μm, a permeability of 5.9×10-13m2, and a porosity of 64%.

In a circulating fluidized bed boiler, the large thermal mass and flow characteristics of the solids strongly affect the transient response of the circulating fluidized bed loop temperature, which determines the heat transfer rate to steam flow. Therefore, it is essential to interpret the dynamic response of the solid behavior in the circulating fluidized bed loop for the stable and efficient operation of the circulating fluidized bed boiler. In this study, the dynamic simulation of the solid behavior along with the flue gas flow in a circulating fluidized bed loop was performed by applying the core-annulus approach for the solid-gas flow inside the furnace and selected models for other physical phenomena of the fluidized bed. The circulating fluidized bed loop of a commercial boiler was selected as the target system. Especially, the model simulates the characteristics of the solid behavior, such as the local solid mass distribution, and the solid flow inside the furnace and the circulating solid according to the various operating conditions. These aspects are difficult to measure and quantify in a real power plant. In this paper, the simulated furnace temperature behavior as the representative performance parameter of the circulating fluidized bed loop was discussed along with the qualitative operation experiences reported in the literature. The operating conditions include the feed rate of fuel and air, the particle size, the solid inventory and the solid circulation rate. Furnace temperature behavior was reproduced through the simulation for each operating case in the literature and was analyzed with the solid behavior along with the combustion rate and heat transfer rate of the circulating fluidized bed loop. The simulation enables quantitative evaluation of the effect of the solid behavior on the temperatures of the furnace and return part in the various operating conditions.

In the design of controllers for heat transfer systems, one must often describe the plant dynamics by partial differential equations. The problem of optimizing a controller for a system described by partial differential equations is considered here using exact and approximate methods. Results equivalent to the Euler-Lagrange equations are derived for the minimization of an index of performance with integral equation constraints. These integral equation constraints represent the solution of the partial differential equations and the associated boundary conditions. The optimization of the control system using a product expansion as an approximation to the transcendental transfer function of the system is also considered. The results using the two methods are in good agreement. Two examples are given illustrating the application of both the exact and approximate methods. The approximate method requires less computation.
