The current literature is not comprehensive concerning the influence of Bacillus subtilis on lipid metabolism, egg chemical characteristics, and intestinal microbiota of Japanese quail. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a Bacillus subtilis strain on yolk quality, gut bacterial populations, and total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations in the plasma of organically farmed Pharaon quail layers. Forty-five-day-old female quails were randomly distributed into four groups of 10 birds each: a no-treatment control group and three test groups receiving powder of Bacillus subtilis DSM 32424 at a minimum rate of 1 × 106 colony forming units per gram, dissolved in drinking water at doses of 50, 75 and 100 mg per kg body weight, daily during 30 days. The use of the probiotic at doses of 50 and 100 mg resulted in significantly reduced faecal staphylococci count on day 30 (P<0.05), while no significant changes were detected in lactobacilli or coliform bacteria. This study gives the first evidence of the influence of Bacillus subtilis on acid value and carotenoid levels in egg yolks laid by quails. Carotenoids were significantly elevated in the 75 mg group on day 30 (P<0.05), but significantly decreased in the 50 and 100 mg groups (P<0.05). Acidity, triglyceride and total cholesterol concentrations in quail serum were not affected significantly by the treatment throughout the study, though their values were reduced. The inclusion of Bacillus subtilis DSM 32424 in drinking water for laying Pharaon quails inhibited faecal staphylococci proliferation and enhanced yolk carotenoid content. Therefore, it can be proposed that including this probiotic in laying quail diets may have beneficial outcomes for both layers and the second generation.

It was postulated that a phytobiotic preparation containing cinnamon oil and citric acid added to drinking water for chickens in a suitable amount and for a suitable time would beneficially modify the microbiota composition and morphology of the small intestine, thereby improving immunity and growth performance without inducing metabolic disorders. The aim of the study was to establish the dosage and time of administration of such a phytobiotic that would have the most beneficial effect on the intestinal histology and microbiota, production results, and immune and metabolic status of broiler chickens. The experiment was carried out on 980 one-day-old male chickens until the age of 42 days. The chickens were assigned to seven experimental groups of 140 birds each (seven replications of 20 individuals each). The control group (G-C) did not receive the phytobiotic. Groups CT-0.05, CT-0.1, and CT-0.25 received the phytobiotic in their drinking water in the amount of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 mL/L, respectively, at days 1–42 of life (continuous application, CT). The birds in groups PT-0.05, PT-0.5, and PT-0.25 received the phytobiotic in the same amounts, but only at days 1–7, 15–21, and 29–35 of life (periodic application, PT). Selected antioxidant and biochemical parameters were determined in the blood of the chickens, as well as parameters of immune status and redox status. The morphology of the intestinal epithelium, composition of the microbiome, and production parameters of chickens receiving the phytobiotic in their drinking water were determined as well. The addition of a phytobiotic containing cinnamon oil and citric acid to the drinking water of broiler chickens at a suitable dosage and for a suitable time can beneficially modify the microbiome composition and morphometry of the small intestine (total number of fungi p < 0.001, total number of aerobic bacteria p < 0.001; and total number of coliform bacteria p < 0.001 was decreased) improving the immunity and growth performance of the chickens (there occurred a villi lengthening p = 0.002 and crypts deepening p = 0.003). Among the three tested dosages (0.05, 0.1, and 0.25 mL/L of water) of the preparation containing cinnamon oil, the dosage of 0.25 mL/L of water administered for 42 days proved to be most beneficial. Chickens receiving the phytobiotic in the amount of 0.25 mL/L had better growth performance, which was linked to the beneficial effect of the preparation on the microbiome of the small intestine, metabolism (the HDL level p = 0.017 was increased; and a decreased level of total cholesterol (TC) p = 0.018 and nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) p = 0.007, LDL p = 0.041, as well as triacylglycerols (TAG) p = 0.014), and immune (the level of lysozyme p = 0.041 was increased, as well as the percentage of phagocytic cells p = 0.034, phagocytosis index p = 0.038, and Ig-A level p = 0.031) and antioxidant system (the level of LOOH p < 0.001, MDA p = 0.002, and the activity of Catalase (CAT) p < 0.001 were decreased, but the level of ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) p = 0.029, glutathione p = 0.045 and vitamin C p = 0.021 were increased).

A variety of methods have been used for recovering introduced bacteria from plant roots. The objective of this study was to compare systematically five methods: agitation in buffer, agitation with glass beads in buffer, mixing in a StomacherR lab-blender, sonication, and trituration with mortar and pestle. Cotton seeds were treated with two previously reported rhizobacterial strains, Pseudomonas fluorescens strain Pf-5 and Bacillus subtilis strain GB03. The efficiency of recovery by each method was determined 3 weeks later by comparing average bacterial populations from whole root systems, single 2.0-cm root segments, and two root regions (the uppermost 5 cm of taproot and the lowermost 5 cm). Treatment with the StomacherR blender yielded significantly higher (P = 0.05) mean populations of GB03 compared with all other methods and significantly higher mean populations of Pf-5 compared with agitation with glass beads. From the lowermost 5 cm of taproot, populations of Pf-5 recovered by the StomacherR treatment were significantly higher than all other methods. The inclusion of glass beads for agitation treatments resulted in neither consistently higher absolute numbers of recovered bacteria nor reductions in variability. The mean standard error of each recovery method varied among root sources, and no single method consistently had the highest or lowest mean standard error. Mean standard errors for strain GB03 were generally lower than those for Pf-5 with each root source and each method of recovery. When viewed in composite, the data suggest that the StomacherR treatment was the best for recovering the greatest absolute numbers of rhizobacteria; however, this treatment had high mean standard errors. Investigations of root colonization by introduced rhizobacteria should include several recovery methods to optimize recovered numbers or to decrease variability, depending on the experimental objectives. Abstract Background: Although the intestinal lumen is a major way for the entrance of pathogens such as Salmonella, they face a dense microbiota in the gut lumen. This community confers health benefits. The probiotics enhance the colonization resistance and direct inhibitory effects against pathogens, which are important in reducing the incidence, duration of gastroenteritis and also histopathological effects. Methods: In this study spore of two probiotic bacteria, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans were fed to rats for three weeks through their daily water intake after which Salmonella Typhimurium was gavaged to the rats. On days 1, 3, 5 and 7 after gavaging, intestinal microbiota and days 1, 3, 5 and 7 after gavaging, gut and liver histopathological changes were evaluated. Results: In comparison to the control group, Salmonella caused no change in spore and aerobic bacteria population but it caused anaerobic and coliform bacteria increase and LAB reduction. But B. subtilis and B. coagulans accompaniment with salmonella reduced the anaerobe and coliform bacteria and decreased the LAB population following Salmonella infection. Also, the histopathological evaluation showed that these probiotic attenuated shortening and fusion of villi, mononuclear cells infiltration, submucosal edema and epithelial necrosis in the intestine, hepatocyte degeneration and mononuclear cells infiltration in the liver which occurred due to Salmonella infection.Conclusion: B. subtilis and B. coagulans help the maintenance of the gut microflora population and reduce the histopathological effects when exposing to the Salmonella, which, causes the reduction of this pathogen effects and early recovery.

Latar Belakang: Dislipidemia adalah terjadinya kelainan metabolisme lipid, baik peningkatan maupun penurunan fraksi lipid dalam darah. Kelainan fraksi lipid yang utama adalah kenaikan kadar kolesterol total, kenaikan kadar LDL, kenaikan kadar trigliserida serta penurunan kadar HDL. Tingginya kadar lipid dalam darah dapat menyebabkan terjadinya aterosklerosis, yang ditandai dengan terdapatnya ateroma pada bagian intima arteri yang berisi kolesterol, zat lipoid, dan lipofag. Perkembangan lebih lanjut dari aterosklerosis ini akan menimbulkan komplikasi pada organ target diantaranya jantung dan otak. Tujuan Penelitian: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak etanol herba poguntano (EEHP) terhadap profil lipid tikus putih jantan dislipidemia (penurunan kadar kolesterol total, kadar trigliserida, kadar LDL dan peningkatan kadar HDL) serta terhadap proses aterosklerosis. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap 30 ekor tikus putih jantan yang dibagi dalam 6 kelompok. Kelompok I sebagai kontrol normal, kelompok II sebagai kontrol negatif diberikan Na-CMC dosis 10 ml/kg bb, kelompok III sebagai kontrol positif diberikan atorvastatin dosis 2 mg/kg bb, kelompok IV, V, dan VI sebagai kelompok perlakuan diberi EEHP dosis 75, 150 dan 300 mg/kg bb. Hewan uji diberi induksi pakan tinggi lemak yang berupa campuran kuning telur puyuh, minyak jelantah, dan lemak sapi selama 14 hari berturut-turut untuk mendapatkan hewan uji dislipidemia yang dilanjutkan dengan treatment selama 14 hari berturut-turut. Pengukuran kadar profil lipid dilakukan pada hari ke-28. Hasil: Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa EEHP dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol total, kadar trigliserida, dan kadar LDL serta dapat meningkatkan kadar HDL secara nyata (p < 0,05). Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan hasil diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa EEHP mempuyai pengaruh terhadap profil lipid tikus dislipidemia (penurunan kadar kolesterol total, kadar trigliserida, kadar LDL dan peningkatan kadar HDL) serta dapat mencegah proses terjadinya aterosklerosis. Background: Dysplipidemia is a lipid metabolism dysfunctionsuch as the incline and the decline of blood lipid profile. The main abnormallipid fractionlevel are the increase of total cholesterol level, LDL level, and triglyceride and the decline of HDL level. The high level of blood lipid can cause atherosclerosis with the atheroma in arterial intima that contains cholesterol, lipoid, and lipophage. The advance stage of atherosclerosis can cause complications to target organs such as heart and brain. Objectives: This research aimed to evaluate the effects of herbapurganto (PiciaPicriaFelTerraeLour) ethanol extract on Lipid Profile of Dyspilidemic Male Rat(the decline of total cholesterol level, triglyceride level, LDL level, and the increase of HDL level) and also the atherosclerosis process. Research method: This research was conducted to 30male ratswhich dividedinto 6 groups. Group 1was served as the normal control, Group 2was servedas negative controls which were given 10 ml/kg bb Na-CMC , Group 3 was served as positive controls which were given 2 mg/kg bb of atorvastatin dosage, Group 4, 5, and 6 were served as the treatment group, and administered with EEHP at the dose of 75, 150, and 300 mg/kb bb . The test animals were fedwith high fatdiet using quail yolk, used cooking oil, and cow fat mixture for 14 days consecutively to obtain dyslipidemia subjects and continued with 14 consecutively treatment. The measure of lipid profile was conducted in the 28th day. Finding: The statistical analysis results indicated that EEHP could decrease the total of cholesterol level, triglyceride level, LDL level, and also it could increase the HDL level (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Based on the results, it could be concluded that EEHP haseffect towards dyslipidemia rat(the decline of total cholesterol level, triglyceride level, LDL level, and the increase of HDL level) and it could also prevent atherosclerosis.

Context Probiotics used in poultry nutrition may promote the propagation of beneficial bacteria and limit the growth of pathogens, improving the body’s resistance to disease. Aims The aim of the study was to establish the dose and timing of administration of a probiotic preparation containing live cultures of Bacillus subtilis PB6 and choline that would have the most beneficial effect on histological parameters and microbiological status of the intestine, immune status, and growth performance of broiler chickens. Methods In total, 980 one-day-old Ross 308 male chickens, divided into seven groups of 140 (each group with seven replications of 20 individuals), were used in the experiment. The birds were reared until Day 42 of life. In the control group, birds received water without addition of the probiotic preparation. In three continuous treatments, birds received the probiotic preparation in their water at doses of 0.05, 0.1 or 0.25 g/L from Day 1 to Day 42 of rearing. In three periodic treatments, birds received the same doses of the probiotic preparation, but only during Days 1–7, 15–21 and 29–35 of rearing. Key results Addition of the probiotic preparation to the drinking water of broiler chickens increased the total number of aerobic bacteria as well as the length of the intestinal villi and the depth of the crypts. It also reduced the number of fungi and coliform bacteria. In addition, increases were noted in the lysozyme content, the phagocytic index, and the level of immunoglobulin A. Conclusions The probiotic preparation containing B. subtilis and choline administered continuously at a dose of 0.25 g/L in water throughout the rearing period had the most beneficial effect on the composition of the microbiome, and improved the mucous membrane structure of the intestine (increasing villus length and intestinal crypt depth), immunity, and growth performance of the broiler chickens. Implications The use of probiotics in poultry nutrition improves the health of animals and makes breeding more profitable. Administration of this probiotic improves disease resistance, jejunal histological parameters, and intestinal microflora of broiler chickens.

In this study, it was aimed to determine of diagnostic importance blood lipid levels in neonatal calves with sepsis. The study was carried out on a total of 70 calves, 60 with sepsis and 10 healthy calves. The calves with sepsis were included in the study, according to clinical and hematological findings.  After routine clinical examinations of all the calves, blood samples were taken from the V. jugularis for hematological, lipid profile and biochemical analyzes. There were significantly (P < 0.05) decreased in body temperature, increased in respiration rate and capillary refill time in the calves with sepsis, compared to control group calves. The levels of blood urea nitrogen, creatinine concentrations of calves with sepsis were significantly higher (P < 0.05), however, levels of total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and albumin concentrations were significantly lower (P < 0.05) than control group. In addition, blood triglyceride and VLDL concentrations of calves with sepsis were higher than control group, however there was no statistical difference.In conclusion, serum total cholesterol, HDL and LDL in neonatal calves with sepsis could be used in evaluation of the sepsis.

AbstractThe aim of the study was to test whether the use of probiotic bacteria Bacillus subtilis or Enterococcus faecium or a phytobiotic containing cinnamon oil can improve the metabolic parameters, immune status, gut microbiota and histology, and growth performance of broiler chickens. The experiment was carried out on 560 one-day-old male Ross 308 broiler chickens raised until the age of 42 days. The broiler chickens were assigned to 4 experimental groups of 140 birds each (7 replications of 20 individuals each). The control group (Control) did not receive additives. A probiotic preparation containing live bacterial cultures of Enterococcus faecium (EF, in the amount of 0.25 g/l) or Bacillus subtilis (BS, 0.25 g/l) or a phytobiotic preparation containing cinnamon oil (OC, 0.25 ml/l) was administered to the broiler chickens with their drinking water throughout the rearing period. The most important results indicate that the use of BS and OC resulted in: a significant (P≤0.05) increase in the level of ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP), high-density cholesterol (HDL) and glutathione (GSH + GSSH) and a significant (P≤0.05) decrease in the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), lipid hydroperoxides (LOOH), total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerols (TAG), nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) and interleukin 6 (IL-6), a ratio of heterophils : leukocytes (H:L) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), acidic phosphatase (AC) and creatinine kinase (CK), relative to the C group. In the blood of broiler chickens from the OC treatment, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase activity and 3-hydroxy-butyrate dehydrogenase (HBDH) significantly (P≤0.05) decreased in relation to the C group, and in broiler chickens from EF and BS treatments there was an increase (P≤0.05) in haemoglobin (Hb) content. Compared with group C, in the broiler chickens’ nutritional content from EF, BS and OC treatments, the total number of coliforms and number of fungi significantly (P≤0.05) dropped and the number of aerobic bacteria increased (P≤0.05) in the length of the villus and the depth of the crypt. It has been found that Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecium and phytobiotic containing cinnamon oil can improve the microbiological and histological appearance of broiler chicken intestine. The addition of probiotic bacteria Bacillus subtilis or phytobiotic containing cinnamon oil to drinking water is more preferable than Enterococcus faecium regarding stimulation of the immune system, blood redox status parameters, parameters of metabolic changes and the gut microbiome and morphometry.

Stress is a psychiatric/psychological disorder characterized by a sense of disability, despair, anhedonia, decreased activity, and pessimism. Stress can affect the physiological condition of the body with symptoms of lipid metabolism disorders. Chlorella vulgaris is a microalgae that is known to have the potential as an alternative antidepressant drug. The study was conducted to determine the lipid profile of blood wistar strain rats after stress induction and the effect of administration of Chlorella vulgaris on blood lipid profiles of stress-induced wistar rats. This research is an experimental study using 5 treatments with 25 models of Rattus norvegicus wistar strain, 2 months old. The treatment group consisted of 1 control group, 1 stress group, and 3 groups of treatment variations, namely the treatment of antidepressant medication, the treatment of administration of cultivated Chlorella vulgaris, and the treatment of commercial Chlorella. Stress induction is carried out by treatments that given to the rats randomly, namely cold water, warm water, wet cage, dark-light cycle, and sound wave exposure for 40 days. Examination of blood lipid profiles was carried out on Day 0 after mice were acclimated, day 40 after rats were induced stress, and day 56 after rats were given treatment of cultivated Chlorella vulgaris. The results obtained were the stress conditions of the lipid profile of the wistar strain of rats which had increased were total cholesterol levels of the control group and triglyceride levels in all groups while those who had decreased were cholesterol levels other than the control group, HDL levels in all groups, and LDL levels all groups. Giving Chlorella vulgaris had effect on decreasing total cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, and LDL levels along with increasing HDL levels.

Water is the main source for life and also the most severe substance caused by pollution. The mandatory parameters for determining microbiological quality of drinking water are total non-fecal Coliform bacteria and Coliform fecal (Escherichia coli). Coliform bacteria are a group of microorganisms commonly used as indicators, where these bacteria can be a signal to determine whether a water source has been contaminated by bacteria or not, while fecal Coliform bacteria are indicator bacteria polluting pathogenic bacteria originating from human feces and warm-blooded animals (mammals) . The water inspection method in this study uses the MPN (Most Probable Number) method which consists of 3 tests, namely, the presumption test, the affirmation test, and the reinforcement test. The results showed that of 15 drinking water samples 8 samples were tested positive for Coliform bacteria with the highest total bacterial value of sample number 1, 15 (210/100 ml), while 7 other samples were negative. From 8 positive Coliform samples only 1 sample was stated to be negative fecal Coliform bacteria and 7 other samples were positive for Coliform fecal bacteria with the highest total bacterial value of sample number 1 (210/100 ml).

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of turmeric and ginger on lipid profile of male rats exposed to oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide H2O2 at a concentration of 1% given with consumed drinking water to male rats. Methods: 200 mg/kg from turmeric and ginger were used, and the animals were treatment for 30 days. Results: the results showed a significant increase in cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), whereas it explained a significant decrease in high density lipoprotein (HDL) of male rats exposed to oxidative stress when compared with control group. the results showed a significant decrease in cholesterol, triglycerides, (LDL), (VLDL), whereas it explained a significant increase in (HDL) of rats treated with turmeric and ginger at dose 200 mg/kg when compared with male rats exposed to oxidative stress.
