Epistemology plays an important role in detecting learning difficulties in a given field of knowledge and in directing strategies to eliminate them. This quantitative study aimed to get to know the perceptions of 624 students, related to the nature of science and science teaching and learning. The cross-sectional survey, based on the Inventory of Teacher’s Pedagogical Scientific Beliefs (INPECIP) questionnaire, was applied to the students who attended the 10th, 11th and 12th grades of teacher training courses, in a school in Luanda. The results reveal a clear majority agreement with the theoretical and conceptual frameworks presented, in decreasing manner, from the “didactic model” through the “learning theory”, the “image of Science” and the “teaching methodologies”. The regression model highlights that the course attended clearly influences the epistemological conceptions of the respondents.

This study investigated on classroom attentiveness of children from home with inter parental violence in Chamwino, Dodoma, Tanzania. The study employed the cross-sectional survey design whereby 312 out of 652 children from five secondary schools were randomly selected to participate by filling the questionnaire. Chi square test was employed to determine the relationship between violence against mothers and children’s attentiveness at the 0.05 level of significance. The results indicated a significant relationship between parental conflicts and lack of pupils’ adequate concentration in learning. The findings further showed that female children whose mothers are accustomed to violence are more inattentive than male children during the teaching and learning processes. The study recommends that effective intervention strategies such as developing training through psycho education within families, schools and the community be in place.

The Malaysian Education Blueprint (MEB) 2013-2025 emphasized on principals’ supervisory practices and teachers’ quality to enhance 21st-century international quality education. The lack of professional training for principals and the decline of teacher’s quality according to Yayasan Islam Kelantan (YIK) report (YIK, 2017) have affected the government’s aspirations. This problem requires a solution because the instructional supervision is a catalyst of teachers’ professional values and quality. Meanwhile, teachers’ quality is related to teaching professionalism practices, knowledge, understanding as well as teaching and learning skills. This study is essential for principals’ instructional supervision improvement and enhancing teachers’ quality. A quantitative, cross-sectional survey approach was adopted using a standardized three-section questionnaire comprising Section A: Respondents’ Personal and Professional Backgrounds, Section B: Instructional Supervision and Section C: Teachers’ Quality. The study sample comprised 360 teachers in YIK Religious Secondary Schools. A descriptive and inferential data analysis was generated using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 20 Version. The improved quality among teachers was the result of holistic supervisory practices of principals namely, directive guidance, collective development, professional development, curriculum development and action research guidance. Thus, it is significant that principals understand the practical dimensions of supervision in order to improve teachers’ quality in YIK Religious Secondary Schools in Kelantan. It is recommended that YIK focuses on instructional supervision practices to produce quality teachers as the principals’ instructional supervision is highly potential catalysts for quality teachers.

Motivation is the paramount medium and obligatory precondition that provoke critical thinking among the students. The major premise of this research is to reveal diverse factors that can lower the motivation of the students to acquire good academic grades. Cross sectional survey research design was used by the researcher to accumulate the data from N=300 respondents through multistage sampling technique. Questionnaire was used as a tool for the rationale of data collection from Social Science departments of Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan (Pakistan). Descriptive Statistics, Correlation method, Analysis of Variance and Reliability Coefficients were used by the researcher to appraise the relationship among the study variables. From the analysis it was found that usage of effectual teaching methodologies, adequate learning environment in the classroom and self-motivated involvement of the students to slot in knowledge acquisition are the foremost determinants that can increase the students motivation for learning process. From the analysis the researcher concluded that encouraging the constructive classroom environment by inducing discussion, establishment of cooperative learning environment and small group work can amplify the students motivational level for the purpose of engaging in the learning process. In addition to this inconsistent workload on the students, usage of obsolete teaching methodologies, large class size, peer pressure to resist the learning process and teachers biased behavior with the students are the foremost factors that can diminish the students interest in their studies. Usage of modern instructional practices, provision of adequate classroom environment and encouragement of analytical feedback from the students are the foremost remedies that can increase the motivational level among the students to acquire premium academic grades.

This study aimed to understand circulation of discourses that mobilize a conception about the relationship between Chemistry and experimentation in a Chemistry Degree course, assuming its role as a supervisor of practices and seeking to problematize its effects on teacher education and Basic Education. Theoretical and methodological bases of Discourse Analysis were used in the process of research, analysis and construction of the text. The analysis points to emergence of discourses based on a conception that Chemistry is essentially an experimental area and that produces and reproduces practices, whether in production of chemical knowledge, or in teaching and learning processes, which are fundamentally based on achievement of experiments. In relation to teaching, this conception runs through ideas which are possible to problematize, such as that of experiment itself is enough for learning and that Chemistry is learned by doing. The results presented in this work show the importance of rethinking practices that are naturalized in the chemistry teacher training courses.
