The explosion of web 2.0 and social networks has created an enormous and rewarding source of information that has motivated researchers in different fields to exploit it. Our work revolves around the issue of access and identification of social information and their use in building a user profile enriched with a social dimension, and operating in a process of personalization and recommendation. We study several approaches of Social IR (Information Retrieval), distinguished by the type of incorporated social information. We also study various social recommendation approaches classified by the type of recommendation. We then present a study of techniques for modeling the social user profile dimension, followed by a critical discussion. Thus, we propose our social recommendation approach integrating an advanced social user profile model. L’explosion du web 2.0 et des réseaux sociaux a crée une source d’information énorme et enrichissante qui a motivé les chercheurs dans différents domaines à l’exploiter. Notre travail s’articule autour de la problématique d’accès et d’identification des informations sociales et leur exploitation dans la construction d’un profil utilisateur enrichi d’une dimension sociale, et son exploitation dans un processus de personnalisation et de recommandation. Nous étudions différentes approches sociales de RI (Recherche d’Information), distinguées par le type d’informations sociales incorporées. Nous étudions également diverses approches de recommandation sociale classées par le type de recommandation. Nous exposons ensuite une étude des techniques de modélisation de la dimension sociale du profil utilisateur, suivie par une discussion critique. Ainsi, nous présentons notre approche de recommandation sociale proposée intégrant un modèle avancé de profil utilisateur social.

<p>Social learning and network analyses are theorised to be of great utility in the context of behavioural conservation. For example, harnessing a species’ capacity for social learning may allow researchers to seed useful information into populations, while network analyses could provide a useful tool to monitor community stability, and predict pathways of pathogen transfer. Thus, an understanding of how individuals learn and the nature of the social networks within a population could enable the development of new behavioural based conservation interventions for species facing rapid environmental change, such as human-induced habitat modification. Parrots, the most threatened avian order worldwide, are notably underrepresented in the social learning and social network literature. This thesis addresses this knowledge gap by exploring social learning and networks using two endangered species of parrot; kākā (Nestor meridionalis) and kea (Nestor notabilis). The first study explores social learning of tool use in captive kea, using a trained kea demonstrator. The results from this experiment indicate that both social learning and play behaviour facilitated the uptake of tool use, and suggests that kea are highly sensitive to social information even when presented with complex tasks. The second study assesses whether wild kākā can socially learn novel string-pulling and food aversion behaviours from video playbacks of conspecific demonstrators. Although there was no evidence to indicate that kākā learn socially, these individuals also show no notable reaction to video playback of a familiar predator. Therefore, these results are likely due to difficulties in interpreting information on the screens, and not necessarily a reflection of their ability to perceive social information. In the final study, social network analysis (SNA) was performed to map social connectivity within wellington’s urban kākā population. SNA indicates that kākā form non-random social bonds, selectively associating with some individuals more than others, and also show high levels of dissimilarity in community composition at different feeding sites. Taken together, these results provide rare empirical evidence of social learning in a parrot species and suggest that even complicated seeded behaviours can quickly spread to other individuals. These findings may also be indicative of the difficulties in conducting video playback experiments in wild conditions, which is an area in need of future research. Overall, these findings contribute to the very limited body of research on social learning and networks in parrots, and provide information of potential value in the management of these species.</p>

The user of dynamic social network does not require irrelevant and vast amount of information during a search. A need of an intelligent search is required to get the reduced, filtered and relevant information that is achieved using an intelligent information retrieval and web mining. In this paper, identification and description of facts related to needs of an intelligent search in dynamic social network has been done by the authors after the deep and thorough study conducted on several journal and conference papers that are scattered on different electronic databases globally. The usage of intelligent agent for effective information retrieval from the social network site is a very emerging area and it will help the users to find the relevant and concerned information quickly and efficiently. The findings of the authors will help researchers and scholars who are already working in this area to get the relevant information in the direction of future research.

In this chapter we discuss some of the social and ethical issues associated with social information retrieval. Using the work of Habermas we argue that social networking is likely to exacerbate already disturbing trends towards the fragmentation of society and a corresponding decline reduction in social diversity. Such a situation is not conducive to developing a healthy, democratic society. Following the tradition of critical theorists of technology, we conclude with a call for responsible and aware technological design with more attention paid to the values embedded in new technological systems.

O artigo apresenta o conceito de regime de informação aos gestores de informação, como contribuição aos processos de adaptação e adequação de sistemas de informação e linguagens documentárias para atender às necessidades informacionais dos usuários. Regimes de informação são modos de produção informacional dominantes numa formação econômico-social que pressupõem, necessariamente, em seu contexto fontes de informação que são disseminadas e exercem influência no contexto social em que estão estabelecidas. Nesse aspecto, as sociedades têm regimes de informação através dos quais organizam a produção material e simbólica e representam a dinâmica das relações sociais. Dentre as diversas formas de manifestações institucionais atuais, destacam-se os sistemas de recuperação da informação, a manifestação per se do fenômeno que move o regime. Os sistemas de recuperação da informação, por sua vez, usam linguagens documentárias para organizar e comunicar a informação organizada nos inúmeros “agregados de informação”, que Barreto (1996) define como “estruturas” que armazenam “estoques de informação” e podem atuar como “agentes”, ou “mediadores”, entre uma fonte de informação e seus usuários. Abstract The article presents the concept of regime of information to information managers as a contribution for the proccesses of adaptation and adjustment of information systems and documentary language to really attend the information needs of users. Regimes of information are dominants modules of informational production in economic-social formation that presuppose, necessarily, in its context information sources wich are disseminated and put in actions influences in the structure which they are established. Under these circumstances, societies have regimes of information through whom organize symbolic and material production and represent the social dynamics relations. In the midst of several kinds of actual institutional manifestations, distinguish the information retrieval systems, the expression per se of the phenomenon that moves the regime. Under this configuration, the information retrieval systems make use of documentary language to organize, describe and communicate provided information in innumerable aggregates of information that, according Barreto (1996), “are structures which harvest “supply of information” and they operate as “agents” or “mediators” between a source of information and their users”.

Physical Education has been described as a subject with unique characteristics that can contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals. However, an analysis of PE teachers’ (PETs) sustainability consciousness has not yet been conducted. For this purpose, a total of 203 PETs completed the validated SCQ-S instrument to measure the three dimensions of sustainable development in three components of consciousness (attitudes, knowledge and behaviours). The results obtained show that the PETs have a high consciousness for sustainable development (SD), except for attitudes within the economic dimension. Sex has been identified as a variable that determines awareness in sustainability with significantly higher scores for women in all the variables evaluated, except for knowledge and behaviour in the social dimension. These findings provide new knowledge within the Physical Education and SD paradigm, serving as a link for future research that aims to harness the benefits of Physical Education for the sustainability of the planet.

PurposeThis article aims to analyze the specific indicators of the circular economy (CE) in terms of analytical aspects, scope and breadth of metrics and levels of innovation associated with CE.Design/methodology/approachA literature review was developed with a sample of 125 articles, extracted from Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Emerald, Google Scholar, Online Library, Sage, Springer, Taylor and Francis and JSTOR databases.FindingsThe results indicate the lack of integration of the social dimension and predominance of environmental indicators, lack of indicators for the meso level and concentration of metrics for the product level. Methodological criteria of validity and reliability for measurement studies are recommended, as well as paths and proposals for future research in the CE.Research limitations/implicationsThe study’s limitations are linked to the content and method aspects. Although the search was performed in several databases, with a significant number of articles returned compared to other reviews of the topic, the possibilities are limited by the data source and the impossibility of a broader review. The theme is not yet consolidated and this affects the linearity of the revised results. As for the method, the analysis and coding in systematic reviews involve the authors’ capacity for exploration and cognition.Practical implicationsThe article proposes six theoretical propositions and the theoretical framework that portrays the main findings of the study and questions to drive future research in the topic.Social implicationsThe article points out opportunities for companies, universities and the government regarding the possibilities that can be explored to develop knowledge and practice about the field.Originality/valueThis research advances the CE literature by means of providing a review of the indicators, metrics and tools oriented toward the CE literature that contributes to the improvement and consolidation of the various researches in the field.

The present stage in the evolution of the Internet, commonly called Web 2.0, has revolutionized the way people communicate, interact, and share information and has radically changed the way customers search for and buy products. The increasing adoption of Web 2.0 applications and technologies has led to an explosion of customer-generated content and has opened new opportunities for networking and collaboration among customers. Web 2.0 applications have brought about a new media category, the Social Media, increasingly growing in importance at the cost of traditional media. The Social Media have changed the power structures in the marketplace; evidence points to a major power-migration that is taking place and to the emergence of a new breed of powerful and sophisticated customers, difficult to influence, persuade, and retain. The chapter outlines the nature, effects, and present status of the Social Media, underscoring their role as agents of customer-empowerment. It explains their aptitude and possible roles as part of the corporate marketing strategy and identifies different ways of engaging them as marketing tools. The chapter proposes two possible Social Media marketing strategies. One is a passive approach focusing on utilizing the Social Media domain as source of customer voice and market intelligence. The second is an active approach, engaging the Social Media as direct marketing and PR channels, as channels of customer influence, as tools of personalizing products, and last, but not least, developing them as platforms of co-operation and customer-generated innovation. Finally, the chapter identifies future research directions for this new element of the marketing landscape.

AbstractDriven by large industry investments, developments of Virtual Reality (VR) technologies including unobtrusive sensors, actuators and novel display devices are rapidly progressing. Realism and interactivity have been postulated as crucial aspects of immersive VR since the naissance of the concept. However, today’s VR still falls short from creating real life-like experiences in many regards. This holds particularly true when introducing the “social dimension” into the virtual worlds. Apparently, creating convincing virtual selves and virtual others and conveying meaningful and appropriate social behavior still is an open challenge for future VR. This challenge implies both, technical aspects, such as the real-time capacities of the systems, but also psychological aspects, such as the dynamics of human communication. Our knowledge of VR systems is still fragmented with regard to social cognition, although the social dimension is crucial when aiming at autonomous agents with a certain social background intelligence. It can be questioned though whether a perfect copy of real life interactions is a realistic or even meaningful goal of social VR development at this stage. Taking into consideration the specific strengths and weaknesses of humans and machines, we propose a conceptual turn in social VR which focuses on what we call “hybrid avatar-agent systems”. Such systems are required to generate i) avatar mediated interactions between real humans, taking advantage of their social intuitions and flexible communicative skills and ii) an artificial social intelligence (AIS) which monitors, and potentially moderates or transforms ongoing virtual interactions based on social signals, such as performing adaptive manipulations of behavior in intercultural conversations. The current article sketches a respective base architecture and discusses necessary research prospects and challenges as a starting point for future research and development.
