Research on adolescent aggression often distinguishes between reactive and proactive aggression, but there is limited knowledge regarding the application or measurement of these subtypes of aggression among female youth, especially forensic samples of female youth. Drawing on 377 girls (103 selected from forensic settings and 274 selected from school settings) from Portugal, the current study is the first to simultaneously examine the psychometric properties of the Reactive-Proactive Aggression Questionnaire (RPQ) in incarcerated girls and community girls. The results support the use of the RPQ in terms of its two-factor structure, measurement invariance, internal consistency, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and known-groups validity. Significant associations were found with several criterion-related variables such as age of criminal onset, age of first problem with the law, conduct disorder, crime severity, violent crimes, and alcohol and drug use. Findings are discussed in terms of the use of the RPQ among incarcerated girls and community girls.

Aggression is an important risk factor that predisposes adolescents to disruptive and criminal behaviours. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the structural invariance and psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Reactive-Proactive Aggression Questionnaire (RPQ) across genders among adolescents. A sample of 450 students (Mage = 14 years, SD = 0.81) was recruited randomly and completed the Persian version of the RPQ, Child Behavior Checklist and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Although the two-factor model obtained the best fit across genders, the results did not support the equivalence of factor loadings across groups. These findings replicated the distinction of reactive and proactive aggression while implied different models of the RPQ based on gender. Suggestions for future research and a more accurate assessment of these two kinds of aggression are further discussed.

The aim of the present study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Reactive–Proactive Aggression Questionnaire (RPQ) among a forensic sample of incarcerated male juvenile offenders ( N = 221). The Portuguese version of the RPQ demonstrated promising psychometric properties, namely, in terms of factor structure, internal consistency, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and concurrent validity that generally justifies its use among this population. Statistically significant associations were found with conduct disorder, age of criminal onset, age of first problem with the law, crime seriousness, physical violence use in committing crimes, alcohol use, cannabis use, cocaine/heroin use, and having unprotected sex. The findings provide additional support for the extension of the RPQ across different cultures, ethnic groups, and samples.

Abstract We evaluated the psychometric properties of the empathy quotient (EQ) scale translated to Spanish in Chile. We estimated its structural validity, and its construct validity with other convergent measures of empathy and attachment, as well an inversely associated construct such as aggression. We used a general sample of students and community individuals (n = 336). Participants completed the EQ, Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ). Another exclusively community group (n = 102) completed Collins Adult Attachment scale and the EQ. CFA and ESEM analyses confirmed the structural model fit of the data to three previously reported dimensions of the EQ: cognitive empathy (CE), emotional reactivity (ER) and social skills (SS). Sex-differences in emotional reactivity, and the predicted relationships with the convergent measures were observed. The current Chilean version of the EQ resulted in an appropriate multidimensional measurement of empathy. Finally, providing a specific social skills dimension extends the traditional conception of cognitive and affective empathy to the social realm in the Chilean context.
