Today, there is a rapid growing demand for graphite electrodes used at steel making factories. Graphite electrodes are expensive materials that are used at steel making factories. Increasing the working longevity of these materials can significantly improve the benefit of steel melting process. Therefore, the increase in the stability of graphite at high elevated temperatures in electric arc furnaces is necessary. The mixture of SiC/TiO2/SiO2 coating can desirably reduce the oxidation of the graphite matrix at high temperatures. Evidently, the SiC/TiO2/SiO2 coating can specially decrease the mass loss rate of the graphite at high elevated temperatures and improve its working longevity in these conditions. Moreover, this coating can effectively improve the stability and thermal shock properties of graphite at the temperatures up to 1000∘C.

This work covers waste energy utilization of the combined power cycle by using it in the candle raw material (paraffin) melting process and an economic study for this process. After a partial utilization of the burned fuel energy in a real bottoming steam power generation, the exhaust gas contains 0.033 of the initially burned energy. This tail energy with about 128 ºC is partly driven in the heat exchanger of the paraffin melting system. Ansys-Fluent Software was used to study the paraffin wax melting process by using a layered system that utilizes an increased interface area between the heat transfer fluid (HTF) and the phase change material (PCM) to improve the paraffin melting process. The results indicate that using 47.35 kg/s, which is 5% of the entire exhaust gas (881.33 kg/s) from the exit of the combined power cycle, would be enough for producing 1100 tons per month, which corresponds to the production quantity by real candle's factories. Also, 63% of the LPG cost will be saved, and the payback period of the melting system is 2.4 years. Moreover, as the exhaust gas temperature increases, the consumed power and the payback period will decrease.

Abstract: In order to reveal the dissolution behavior of iron tailings in blast furnace slag, we studied the main component of silica in iron tailings. First, edge contour features need to be established to represent the melting process of silica. We choose shape, perimeter, area and generalized radius as objects. By independently analyzing the influence of these four indexes on the melting rate, the area and shape were selected as the characteristic parameters of the edge contour of the silica particles. Then, the actual melting rate of the silica is estimated by the edge contour feature index. Finally, we can calculate the melting rate of the first second of three time periods of 0.00010312mm3/s，0.0002399mm3/s，0.0000538mm3/s.

Abstract LESCALLOY 300M VAC ARC is a low-alloy steel with an excellent combination of high hardenability and high strength coupled with good ductility and good toughness. Its tensile strength ranges from 280,000 to 300,000 psi. It is produced by the vacuum consumable electrode melting process to provide optimum cleanliness and preferred ingot structure. Its applications include aircraft components, pressure vessels and fasteners. Abstract UGIMA 4404 (UGIMA 316L) is identical to UGINE 4404 (AISI 316L) in analysis, corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and forging and welding ability, but not with respect to machinability. The possible volume reduction and stabilization of the sewage sludge associated with the melting process are expected to be greater than with the incineration process. In addition, melted slag can be utilized. However, since the melting process requires a very high temperature to melt inorganics (ash) in the sludge, the technologies to minimize energy consumption, to establish system operation and to prolong durability of facilities should be developed. This paper discusses the auxiliary fuel consumption as follows.(1)Preparation of a model that provides the auxiliary fuel consumption of the melting system on the basis of the mass and heat balances.(2)Evaluation of the auxiliary fuel consumption in the above model using the cake moisture content, the volatile solids of the cake, the dried cake moisture content and the melting temperature as parameters.(3)Examination of the operational conditions for an energy saving melting system based on the results of (1) and (2) above.
