Aiming at the disadvantages of traditional coal mine voice communication system such as short transmission distance, weak anti-jamming capability and poor voice quality, designed a voice communication and data collection system based on double CAN bus. The system adopts double CAN bus transmission design, CAN 1 bus is responsible for transmitting voice data, CAN 2 bus is responsible for real-time data acquisition. Double CAN bus design make voice information and control information does not interfere with each other, ensured the timely and accurate information transmission. Introduced hardware and software design of the system in detail, experimental tests showed that the system is stable with long transmission distance and high voice quality, and has certain application value.

Solargenix Energy is currently constructing a 64-MWe parabolic trough solar plant in Eldorado Valley, Nevada, just south of Las Vegas. As part of the preparation for construction and operation of the new utility-scale solar plant, Solargenix has collaborated with UNLV and NREL to build a collector test row. The test row is serving as a platform for field testing advanced parabolic trough components before their large-scale deployment. The test row consists of two Solargenix Solar Collector Assemblies (SCAs); each SCA has 12 collector modules (space frames and mirrors). This facility has been used to field test new Solargenix designs for first and second generation collector space frames, advanced reflectors, advanced local controllers (AdLoCs), a hydraulic-based drive system, receiver support arms, low-cost injection-molded bearings, ball joints and collector support pylons. The test-row facility also has equipment for monitoring the following weather data: direct normal irradiance, dry bulb temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation. Data logging equipment is used to record and track weather data as well as SCA parameters. Site instrumentation is solar-powered (photovoltaics) and uses cellular technology to transmit data to a web-based data collection system. This paper describes construction of this facility, the installation of the data-collection system and some data collected to date.

For the requirements of multipoint real-time data collection and transmission in the noise monitoring of current civil aviation airport, the design and implementation of noise data collection system based on wireless sensor network is discussed. The collection system is composed of ZigBee wireless sensor network in the airport and ARM noise data control module. Monitoring personnel can get airport noise data collected by ZigBee wireless sensor network through RS232 serial communication between ARM platform and ZigBee network coordinator.

A free text data collection system has been developed at the University of Illinois utilizing single word, syntax free dictionary lookup to process data for retrieval. The source document for the system is the Surgical Pathology Request and Report form. To date 12,653 documents have been entered into the system. The free text data was used to create an IRS (Information Retrieval System) database. A program to interrogate this database has been developed to numerically coded operative procedures. A total of 16,519 procedures records were generated. One and nine tenths percent of the procedures could not be fitted into any procedures category; 6.1% could not be specifically coded, while 92% were coded into specific categories. A system of PL/1 programs has been developed to facilitate manual editing of these records, which can be performed in a reasonable length of time (1 week). This manual check reveals that these 92% were coded with precision = 0.931 and recall = 0.924. Correction of the readily correctable errors could improve these figures to precision = 0.977 and recall = 0.987. Syntax errors were relatively unimportant in the overall coding process, but did introduce significant error in some categories, such as when right-left-bilateral distinction was attempted. The coded file that has been constructed will be used as an input file to a gynecological disease/PAP smear correlation system. The outputs of this system will include retrospective information on the natural history of selected diseases and a patient log providing information to the clinician on patient follow-up.Thus a free text data collection system can be utilized to produce numerically coded files of reasonable accuracy. Further, these files can be used as a source of useful information both for the clinician and for the medical researcher.
