With the purpose of optimizing the combustion system of a homogeneous charged gasoline direct injection engine, its working process was simulated with a 3-D CFD software package. The authors investigated the influence of injection timings and combustion chamber shapes on the charge motion, fuel injection and their influence on fuel-air mixture formation. With the comparisons of fuel-air mixture quality and combustion processes between two typical injection timings, the optimal injection strategy was chosen. To further improve the mixture quality, configuration on piston crown was optimized and analysis on mixture formation processes of the new configurations was made. Simulation results indicate that the new configurations have faster fuel evaporation rate and better mixture homogeneity.

Numerical analysis is used to gain information on the spray propagation and mixture formation in tumble guided gasoline direct injection (DI) engines. In order to achieve reliable predictions an atomization model for high-pressure swirl injectors is described and verified by comparison to experimental data. The approach is capable of adequately predicting the most important effects, such as nozzle orifice diameter, cone angle or injection pressure on spray development. Furthermore, it is found that the pre-jet generated at the beginning of the injection strongly affects the overall spray development. The temporal development of the pre-jet is described empirically. The in-cylinder computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis reveals that the tumble charge motion strongly affects spray propagation and mixture formation in the stratified operation mode, as it transports the fuel vapour cloud towards the spark plug. The CFD simulation improves understanding of the interaction between the flow field, spray propagation and evaporation and enables guidance of the optimization of the flow control and of the injection parameters for tumble guided gasoline DI engines.

Theoretical study of multi-layered CuO 2 surfaces with localization potential shows that (i) special stable macroscopic quantum states appear when [Formula: see text], where χ is the doping level and G is the unit-cell number, and that (ii) the physical phenomena related to ‖c charge motion takes place just as expected in the fictitious situation where whole uniformly doped holes concentrate in one-side surface. In the dielectric measurement of doping-level dependence and film-thickness dependence on c-oriented La 2-χ Sr χ CuO 4-δ film, we find that (a) anomalous low-frequency polarization is enhanced when a scaling parameter χG is near to [Formula: see text], that (b) quasi-static measurement of the polarization property in low doped film shows two typical characteristics explicable by the fictitious charge concentrations, and that (c) ‖c small-voltage conduction measurement on low doped film also shows two types of characteristic which are switched each other triggered by laser irradiation. Since these macroscopic quantum effects with plural levels with very long life time are observable even up to room temperatures, they may be useful in quantum computing application.
