Wave propagation for transverse electric (TE) mode in a graded interface between left-handed and right-handed material has been investigated by using asymptotic iteration method. By using hyperbolic functions for negative permittivity and negative permeability, we obtained the graded graphs of permittivity and permeability as a function of material thickness. Maxwell equation for the dielectric with the hyperbolic function in permittivity and permeability has been reduced to second orde differential equation. The second orde differential equation has been solved by using asymptotic iteration method with the eigen functions in complementary error functions. The eigen functions explained about the wave propagation in a graded interface of material. The distribution of the electric field and the wave vector were given in approximate solution.

The possibilities of the slow surface electromagnetic waves propagation along the flat boundary of a metasurface with a dissipative dielectric are studied. The metasurface is a thin flat slab of metamaterial with simultaneously negative permittivity and permeability with "amplification". All media were assumed to be isotropic. Dispersion dependences are obtained for the eigenmodes of such a waveguide structure. The possibility of full compensation of the energy losses of surface waves by the appropriate choice of the “gains” values is demonstrated.

A material that has both negative permittivity and permeability is termed as left-handed material. The properties of Left Handed Material (LHM), such as negative refraction, have been simulated numerically by beam propagation method. The results are consistent with other works reported in the literature. It is shown that the Poynting vector and the phase velocity of the electromagnetic wave are indeed anti-parallel, confirming that the left-handed material does not violate the causality condition. It is conventional to simulate the phase restoring mechanism in a left-handed medium by showing (negative) refraction at an interface between an LHM and a conventional material. In this paper, we show for the first time, a simulation using BPM for the case of multiple-slit interference using Gaussian beam. The interference for two to three sources with different separations is used to show that the LHM can restore the phase and reverse the diffraction and interference effects.

Researchers have been interested in studying so-called Left-Handed Metamaterials LHM, which are artificial materials. These materials have unusual characteristics, like negative permittivity and permeability, and therefore negative index. This paper has been discussed some characteristics of LHM by designing a square split ring resonator SRR and simulating with CST microwave studio (Computer Simulation Technology) to get S-parameters. The broadband frequencies (0-30) GHz were taking to specify the effective range of frequencies to work with, which was found to be between (8- 14) GHz. Then, the parameters of SRR have been varied such as split width on, gap width, metal width, rod width and metal material. The measurements show some of parameters have been affected the values of resonance frequency and the others are not. Also, the negative values of permittivity, permeability, and refractive index have been approved.

The design of artificial metamaterial (MTM) has been proposed as an effective medium with extracted scattering parameter by applying Nicolson-Ross-Weir (NWR) equation to achieved negative permittivity and permeability. The novel architecture of ‘Folded-Line’ Left-handed metamaterial (FL-LHM) consist of split ring resonator SRR is designed and modified using LC lump elements analysis to extend bandwidth and operational frequency at 6 GHz to 12 GHz. In this study, we proposed metamaterial novel unit cell designs and simulate the performance in terms of the distribution of electric and magnetic fields, absorption, transmittance and reflectance. The unit cell of FL-LHM as medium allows controlling electromagnetic waves can cause backwave propagation is observed electromagnetic response that current induced in the closed FL-LHM unit cell. This design has its own advantage in term of FL-LHM parameter width, thickness, and absorption bandwidth and transmittance wavelength, might be severely important for particular purposes such as waveguiding or sensing application.

We discuss how a three-level system can be used to change the frequency-dependent magnetic permeability of a dense atomic gas to be significantly different from 1. The results show that a negative permittivity and permeability simultaneously with transparent propagation of the electric part of the probe filed can be obtained. Moreover, the magnetic part of the probe field can be amplified instead of strong absorption as usual materials. Therefore, it may be possible to obtain left-handed electrodynamics for an atomic gas using three atomic levels.
