The power factor is an important technical indicator of the power quality, this paper analyzed the principles, advantages, disadvantages and application ranges of the power factor and phase D-value calculation algorithm, phase D-value and voltage conversion algorithm and zero crossing point phase detector algorithm, designed the practical circuits especially, these design thoughts and practical circuits could be applied to the substation’s voltage and reactive power optimal control equipment, acquisition terminal of power load control system and other power devices, the measuring accuracy satisfied the design requirements.

This paper designed a kind of phase D-value measuring system based on microchip MCU, which adopted the multi-cycles measuring algorithm to improve the accuracy. This system used the zero crossing point phase detector, hardware and software passed the computer simulation based on PROTEUS and MPLAB, the measuring accuracy satisfied the design requirements, this design thought was successfully applied to smart grid access devices. The simulation and practical results show that compared with the traditional products, the phase D-value measuring system based on microchip MCU has a simple circuit, low power consumption, good real-time, high precision and a wide range of applications, it is easy to implement. In the actual product development, the use of assembly language programming has the better effect than c language programming, and the physical simulation is superior to the software simulation.
