Nuclear class equipment should be assessed for seismic safety before they are used in nuclear power plant. According to nuclear safety codes and regulations, all seismic category I equipments shall be designed enduring safety shutdown earthquake (SSE). That is, the stress evaluation needs to be accomplished for those structures. For some components, the deformation evaluation needs to be performed as well to assure the function integrity of the equipment. In this paper, the seismic analysis for an explosion-proof valve used in nuclear power plant, which exactly belongs to seismic category I equipment, has been conducted based on finite element method. The natural frequency, vibration mode and seismic response of the structure have been obtained through calculation, and the stress and deformation under the combined loadings of gravity, internal pressure, blast and seismic load have been evaluated according to ASME AG-1. The bolts of the structure have been qualified according to ASME III-NF as well. The results show that the design of the explosion-proof valve is in compliance with the requirement of corresponding nuclear safety standards.

Generally, for the seismic analysis of nuclear power plant structures, requirement of coupling equipment is checked by applying USNRC decoupling criteria. This criteria is developed for the equipment connected to the structure at one location. In this paper, limitations of this criteria and modifications required for application to real life structures such as pressurized heavy water reactor building are discussed. In addition, the authors endeavor to present a decoupling model for multi-connected structure-equipment. The applicability of the model is demonstrated with pressurized heavy water reactor building internal structure and steam generator.

Aiming at the nuclear power plant structure and adopting time domain analysis approach, the seismic analysis of an intake tunnel for nuclear power plant is performed with FLAC3D in this paper. Contraposing the characters of the field rock of the nuclear plant, the internal force distribution of the tunnel under different wall rocks is researched and analysed, and the envelope diagram of inner force in the lining of the tunnel is drawn. The obtained law can provide the basis for the seismic response analysis of tunnels.

AP1000 is a nuclear power plant developed by Westinghouse based on an advanced passive safety feature, and it is one of selected technologies for Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Plant. The dynamic behavior of the plant under earthquakes is the most concerned in design and construction of the plant. This paper presents a seismic analysis of the AP1000 nuclear island structure by using the computational finite element software ANSYS. A 3D finite element model for the structure is developed and its dynamic response, including the time histories for displacements, velocities andaccelerations, deformed configurations and von Mises stresses of the structure are obtained for America El Centro (6.9 Richter) and Vietnam Dien Bien (5.3 Richter) earthquakes. A comparison on the dynamic response of the structure under the two earthquakes is given, and the dynamic behavior of the structure under the earthquakes is discussed.
