Experimental study on the growth and development of saline and non-saline populations of Eclipta alba Hassk., planted on soils artificially salinized with water-soluble salts of sodium and a saturation extract of saline soil, revealed differences in their salt-adaptive capabilities. The relatively higher salt-adaptive capability of the saline population both at germination and subsequent stages of growth indicated ecophysiological differentiation within species due to salt stress.

The salt concentration in the upper 122 cm of moderately saline Chernozemic soils at 64 sites in central Saskatchewan fluctuated from year to year. The yearly change in salinity of a site ranged from near zero to 35%. There were always changes in the salt concentrations at some sites in the opposite direction to the average change in the area. Fluctuations in water-soluble salts occur below the depth of apparent soil profile development of many Saskatchewan soils. Salt change is a complex phenomenon. Yearly variations are not related to any single factor such as cropping practice, topography or profile type. Ca or Mg or Na can be shown to have the greatest yearly net change in concentration depending on the selection of a specific site and depth. The highest chloride content of any sampling depth or year was 88.4 meq/ℓ of saturation extract and was equivalent to 42% of the cations present.

Reactions of 10-(4-aminopiperazino)-10,11-dihydrodibenzo[b,f]thiepins XIVa-XIVd with benzaldehyde, 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, salicylaldehyde, 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, 2-(2-dimethylaminoethoxy)benzaldehyde, 3-(2-dimethylaminoethoxy)benzaldehyde and 3-ethoxy-4-(2-dimethylaminoethoxy)benzaldehyde afforded a series of 19 hydrazones IIIa-Xc. Some of them showed the expected anticonvulsant effect but only towards pentetrazole; antagonism of maximal electroshock seizures was not observed. In general, the products have a character of tranquillizers: in higher does they produce central depression, potentiate the thiopental sleeping time, have hypothermic action; in single cases antiamphetamine, antireserpine, antihistamine and cataleptic effects were observed. The water-soluble salts of the basic hydrazones VIIIa, VIIIc, IXc and Xc, administered parenterally, showed a rather high acute toxicity and revealed also adrenolytic and hypotensive activity.

Using petroleum ether to extract the fermentative fluid (bio-slurry), then to get the inhibition mechanism of it, and infer which is the main component in inhibition mechanism of biogas. The conclusion found by the experiment is that fat soluble substance is better than water soluble substance in inhibition mechanism, and fat soluble substance is close to 75% biogas fermentation fluid, while water soluble substance is worst. That is to say, the main subject in inhibition mechanism is hided in the fat soluble substance.

Present study was carried out to determine the effect of aluminum containing antacid on the intrauterine growth and development of fetus. The duration of exposure was also correlated with the effects on fetal morphology and their weights. Seventy-two pregnant mice were given a daily i.e., dose of 0.7mg/100g of aluminum sulphate for various periods according to the grouping of experimental design. This dose was equivalent to maximum therapeutic dose of aluminum salt for a 70 kg man i.e. 5000mg aluminum/day. Fetal examination was performed on day 20 of gestation. The number of live and dead fetuses in the treated animals was not significantly different from the control groups. Therefore embryo lethality of aluminum cannot be induced. However there was a decrease in fetal body weight that was directly related to the duration of exposure to aluminum sulphate solution. Dissecting microscopic examination showed, the development was arrested in the groups exposed to drugs for longer periods. These results revealed that aluminum is a type of heavy metal, which is teratogenic for mammals even in doses, which are nontoxic for adults.

The content of water-soluble salts in samples of surface soils from arid regions and separated from them fraction <0.1 mm was analyzed. Existence of salt fractionation in the aleurite was shown. The fractionation coefficients, defined as the ratio of ions concentrations in the water extracts from fraction <0.1 mm and soil as a whole, are arranged in the successions: Na > K > Mg > Ca and SO4 > HCO3 > Cl. It was found that the fractionation of salts depends on their solubility: than solubility below, that enrichment of soils fine fraction is more.
