More bloat occurred after early than after late morning feeding. Cattle were either grazing or fed cut alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) for 4 h once a day. Rumen chlorophyll concentrations were higher before the early feeding. There were no consistent differences in plant DM, ADF, NDF, chlorophyll or total or soluble N.
