Effects of route and level of administration of procaine penicillin on the performance of broiler chickens

Three experiments were done to determine the effects of administering procaine penicillin G to broiler chickens. In exps. 1 and 2, groups of 100 male, day-old chicks received one of the following treatments: (1) control, no penicillin; (2) 27.5 mg penicillin kg−1 added to the diet; (3) an amount of penicillin added to the drinking water equivalent to the amount consumed the previous day by the birds in group 2; and (4) same route of administration as group 3, except the dose was one half of the daily intake by group 3. In exp. 3, both female and male (1200 each) broiler chickens were given diets that contained either 0, 1.1, 2.2 or 4.4 mg kg−1 of penicillin. Each experiment was terminated when the birds were 42 d of age. Route or level of penicillin administration had no effect (P > 0.05) on mortality or feed conversion in any of the experiments. When the penicillin was added to the diets of the birds in exps. 1 and 2, their body weights at 21 and 42 d were 3.5 and 2.9%, respectively, less than those of the control group, but when it was administered via the drinking water the weights were 1–3% higher at these ages than those of the control group. Lower monetary returns (> 0.05) were obtained for the chickens in the penicillin groups than in the control group; these differences (6.6–15.6%) were due mainly to the cost of the antibiotic. In exp. 3, higher body weights (P < 0.05) at 21 d (3.6–5.4%) but not (P > 0.05) at 42 d were obtained for the birds given penicillin-supplemented diets than for those fed the control diets. No measurable levels of residue (limit of detection 100 μg kg−1) were found in samples of kidney, liver and muscle (breast and thigh) from birds in exp. 2, which had received 27.5 mg penicillin kg−1 for the 42-d experimental period. Two thousand four hundred male broiler chicks were used in three experiments to evaluate the biological and economic effects of using arsanilic acid as a growth promoter. In two experiments four treatments were (A) control diets (CD); (B) CD plus 99 mg kg−1 arsanilic acid; (C) CD plus drinking water containing arsanilic acid calculated to achieve equivalent exposure to treatment B; and (D) same as treatment C except arsanilic acid concentration reduced by 50%. A third experiment evaluated the dietary addition of arsanilic acid at 0, 33, 66 and 99 mg kg−1. Arsanilic acid supplementation had no significant (P > 0.05) effect on mortality, feed conversion, final live body weights or monetary returns at slaughter age (42 d). Analysis of breast, thigh and liver tissues using method with a sensitivity of 0.02 mg kg−1 showed a significant increase in liver arsenic residues when supplemented diets were fed to slaughter age. Withdrawal of arsanilic acid from diets 7 d prior to slaughter returned the arsenic residues to normal background (control) levels. It is concluded that the use of arsanilic acid at dietary concentrations up to 99 mg kg−1 (the maximum permissible in Canada) was ineffective in improving either the biological or economic performance of broiler chickens. Целью исследований явилось изучение живой массы и среднесуточных привесов цыплят-бройлеров кросса «Hubbard» при введении в питьевую воду препарата фульвиокислоты компании BioSap Technologies. Птицы контрольной и опытных групп получали в период выращивания одинаковый рацион (полнорационные комбикорма престарт, старт-1, старт-2, рост, финиш) в соответствии с возрастом. Птицы трех опытных групп дополнительно получали в питьевой воде 2, 4 и 6% препарата фульвиокислоты, произведенного из сапропеля озера Жарки Тверской области. К моменту забоя в 40-дневном возрасте наилучший результат по живой массе – 2592,97 г – получен в опытной группе 2 (4% препарата), птицы которой достоверно превосходили бройлеров опытной группы 3 (6% препарата) на 203,31 г или на 8,51% (p<0,01). У курочек опытной группы 2 показатель составил 2475,53 г, что достоверно больше по сравнению с курочками опытной группы 3 на 245,53 г, или на 11,01% (p<0,01). Цыплята-бройлеры опытных групп 1 и 2 превосходили по живой массе птиц контрольной группы, у петушков это характерно и для опытной группы 3. Наилучшие результаты по среднесуточному приросту отмечены также в опытной группе 2. Без учета пола результат составил 63,82 г, что достоверно больше по сравнению с показателем опытной группы 3 на 5,05 г, или на 8,59% (p<0,05). Среднесуточный прирост курочек опытной группы 2 равен 60,88 г, что на 6,09 г или на 11,12% больше по сравнению с курочками опытной группы 3 (p<0,01). Цыплята-бройлеры опытной группы 3 без учета пола, а также курочки уступают по этому показателю птицам контрольной группы. Оптимальной дозой дачи препарата BioSap Fulvic Power компании BioSap Technologies цыплятам-бройлерам следует считать добавление 4% в питьевую воду. The research goal was to learn how the live weight and average daily weight gains of «Hubbard» cross broiler chickens change when their drinking water is added with a fulvic acid preparation produced by the BioSap Technologies company. Birds of both the control and experimental groups were fed in the raising period the similar feeding rations (complete-value combined feeds of pre-start, start-1, start-2, growth, finishing) depending on the growth stage of chickens. The birds in the experimental groups were fed additionally 2, 4 и 6% fulvic acid preparations produced from the sapropel of the Tver oblast Zharki lake .By the slaughter time, at the age of 40 days, the best live weight results of 2592,97 grammes were shown by experimental group 2 fed with a 4% preparation, which reliably exceeded the weight of group 3 chickens (6% preparation) by 203,31 grammes, or by 8,51% (p<0,01). With female chickens in group 2 the value was 2475,53 grammes, which reliably exceeded the weight of group 3 chickens by 245,53 grammes, or by 11,01% (p<0,01) Broiler chickens of experimental groups 1 and 2 exceeded the control group, the same was noted with male chickens ot experimental group 2 too. The best results in average daily gain were also recorded in experimental group 2. Sex differences not being considered, the result was 63,82 grammes, which reliably exceeded the weight of group 3 chickens by 5,05 grammes, or by 8,59% (p<0,05). Daily gains of female chickens in experimental group 2 were 60,88 grammes, or 6,09 grammes higher than those in experimental group 3 (11,12%). Broiler-chicken values of experimental group 3, sex not being considered, as well as female chicken gains were lower than those of the control group. The optimum dose of the BioSap Fulvic Power preparation produced by the BioSap Technologies company should be considered that of 4% added into drinking water.

There is currently almost no poultry holding where avian eimerioses, both monoinvasions and those associated with cryptosporidioses, salmonelloses and colibacte- rioses, are not reported. In view of this, the disease control is an urgent challenge that shall be approached in its entirety, using various eimeriostats, antibiotics and probiotics. Searching for new effective products with broad-spectrum antiparasitic action is one of priorities in avian eimeriosis control. Comparative tests of different combinations of eimeriocidal products, namely solicox + chicktonic, maduvet + tylosin and eimeterm + enrofloxacin, for their treatment and protective effectiveness were carried out under production conditions in broiler chickens of a poultry factory located in the Republic of Dagestan. To perform the tests, four groups of broiler chickens (one control group and three test groups, each comprising 50 chickens) were formed based on the principle of analogues. The treatment and prevention scheme adopted in the said poultry holding was used for the control group chickens. Test group 1 chickens were given solicox at a dose of 2 ml per 1 liter of drinking water in combination with chicktonic (a feed supplement) at a dose of 1 ml per 1 liter of water during 4–5 days. Group 2 chickens were given maduvet at a dose of 3−5 mg/kg of body weight with feed twice and tylosin at a dose of 5 g of powder per 10 liters of water once a day during 5 days; where necessary, the procedure was repeated in 14–16 days. Group 3 broiler chickens were given eimeterm 2.5% at a dose of 7 mg/kg of body weight with water during 2 days in combination with enrofloxacin at a dose of 3 ml per 1 liter of drinking water during 5–6 days. It is shown that a decrease in the number of clinically diseased and dead chickens was observed in the test groups after the use of eimeriocidal products that helped to improve zootechnical parameters of reared broiler chicks. Product extenseffectiveness and intens- effectiveness in different groups of chickens were as follows: Group 1 – 89.2 and 96%, Group 2 – 87.6 and 94%, Group 3 –81.4 and 96%, respectively. The clinical signs of eimeriosis were observed in the control group chickens throughout the entire period of studies, invasion extensity and intensity were 87.6 and 42.6%, respectively.

It is known that necessary to replace the components of organic acids, which are part of acidifiers when drinking water to poultry in order to prevent the adaptation of microbes in the gastrointestinal tract. In the poultry industry organic acids are widely used, which are used as acidifiers to preserve the properties of water consumed. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of broiler meat production when using acidifying agents of drinking water Aquasafe and Veleguard. The experimental part of the work has been performed in JSC “Kurinoe Tsarstvo-Bryansk” broiler area “Roshcha” in the Pochepsky district. The object of research was the livestock of broiler chickens cross Cobb 500 at floor housing. The effect of water acidifiers on meat productivity has been studied. Groups of chickens have been formed on the principle of pairs-analogues. Broiler chickens of experimental groups have been separated from the main livestock by a grid in the corner of the room for 100 heads in each group. It has been found by a result of research to be optimal dose usage of acidifying agents water Aquasafe and Veleguard to drink to broiler chickens. The positive effect of these acidifiers on the digestion of crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, contributing to the effective use of nitrogen, which led to an increase in the intensity of growth, young animals’ livability and improved feed conversion. Slaughter yield in the control group was 55,1 %, and in the experimental group 57,2 and 58,4 %, which was by 2,1 and 3,3 % higher with the same level of metabolic energy and nutrients. In chickens that consumed acidifi ers more intensively used nutrients feed for deposition in the body of the components of the carcass, which affected the production. A positive impact of acidifying agents Aquasafe and Veleguard on meat quality in broiler chickens has been found.

It was postulated that a phytobiotic preparation containing cinnamon oil and citric acid added to drinking water for chickens in a suitable amount and for a suitable time would beneficially modify the microbiota composition and morphology of the small intestine, thereby improving immunity and growth performance without inducing metabolic disorders. The aim of the study was to establish the dosage and time of administration of such a phytobiotic that would have the most beneficial effect on the intestinal histology and microbiota, production results, and immune and metabolic status of broiler chickens. The experiment was carried out on 980 one-day-old male chickens until the age of 42 days. The chickens were assigned to seven experimental groups of 140 birds each (seven replications of 20 individuals each). The control group (G-C) did not receive the phytobiotic. Groups CT-0.05, CT-0.1, and CT-0.25 received the phytobiotic in their drinking water in the amount of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 mL/L, respectively, at days 1–42 of life (continuous application, CT). The birds in groups PT-0.05, PT-0.5, and PT-0.25 received the phytobiotic in the same amounts, but only at days 1–7, 15–21, and 29–35 of life (periodic application, PT). Selected antioxidant and biochemical parameters were determined in the blood of the chickens, as well as parameters of immune status and redox status. The morphology of the intestinal epithelium, composition of the microbiome, and production parameters of chickens receiving the phytobiotic in their drinking water were determined as well. The addition of a phytobiotic containing cinnamon oil and citric acid to the drinking water of broiler chickens at a suitable dosage and for a suitable time can beneficially modify the microbiome composition and morphometry of the small intestine (total number of fungi p < 0.001, total number of aerobic bacteria p < 0.001; and total number of coliform bacteria p < 0.001 was decreased) improving the immunity and growth performance of the chickens (there occurred a villi lengthening p = 0.002 and crypts deepening p = 0.003). Among the three tested dosages (0.05, 0.1, and 0.25 mL/L of water) of the preparation containing cinnamon oil, the dosage of 0.25 mL/L of water administered for 42 days proved to be most beneficial. Chickens receiving the phytobiotic in the amount of 0.25 mL/L had better growth performance, which was linked to the beneficial effect of the preparation on the microbiome of the small intestine, metabolism (the HDL level p = 0.017 was increased; and a decreased level of total cholesterol (TC) p = 0.018 and nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) p = 0.007, LDL p = 0.041, as well as triacylglycerols (TAG) p = 0.014), and immune (the level of lysozyme p = 0.041 was increased, as well as the percentage of phagocytic cells p = 0.034, phagocytosis index p = 0.038, and Ig-A level p = 0.031) and antioxidant system (the level of LOOH p < 0.001, MDA p = 0.002, and the activity of Catalase (CAT) p < 0.001 were decreased, but the level of ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) p = 0.029, glutathione p = 0.045 and vitamin C p = 0.021 were increased).

This study aimed to know the effect of AGP on growth performance, duodenal histological structure and pectoralis muscle of Kampung chicken. This research was conducted by designing 3 groups with each group consisting of 20-day old chicks (DOC) of Kampung chickens. The control group was given basal feed without AGP bacitracin, group 2 was treated with 0.125 g of bacitracin /kg of basal feed and group 3 was treated with 0.25 g bacitracin/kg of basal feed until 12 days old. The parameters observed were chicken body weight on days posthatch, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 12, morphometry, visceral organ weight, duodenal organ morphology and muscle performance of Pectoralis thoracicus at 12 days old. Data analysis used one way ANOVA test followed by Tukey test with significance of P≤ 0,05. The result showed that the morphology of the doudenum and the myofiber area of group 3 indicated significant differences compared to the control group. The conclusion of this study revealed that administration of AGP bacitracin with 0.25 g/ kg dose of basal feed may increase the growth performance of Kampung chicken.

Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) is a respiratory tract disease affecting chickens around the world. The disease generates severe production losses due to increased mortality, decreased egg production, delayed body weight gain, and a predisposition to other respiratory pathogens causing enormous economic losses to the intensive poultry industry. Two licensed vaccines, comprising live or vectored ILT, are available to control the disease. The present trial was conducted to determine changes in chicken interferon gamma fold expression levels in chicken spleens and to evaluate tracheal lesion scores before and after vaccination with live and vectored infectious laryngotracheitis vaccines. Broilers were kept under commercial conditions until 35 days of age. Spleen and trachea samples were taken at 14, 28, and 35 days of age. Tracheas were stained with H&E, histopathology was performed, and the INF-γ fold expression level in spleen samples was analyzed. In the spleens of birds vaccinated with the live ILT vaccine, the increase in INF-γ expression levels was statistically significantly (p < 0.01) lower at 28 days of age, or 7 days post vaccination, (trial 1) and higher at 35 days of age, or 14 days post vaccination, (both trials). At 7 days post vaccination with the live ILT vaccine, the mean tracheal lesion score was significantly higher (p < 0.01) than it was in the control group (both trials). At 14 days post vaccination with the live ILT vaccine, the mean tracheal lesion score was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than it was in the control group 3 (trial 1). No significant differences were found between the control group 3 and group 2, which was vaccinated with the vectored HVT/LT vaccine (both trials). The results of the histology of trachea lesions indicate that vaccination with live ILT may have induced early local immunity. The INF-γ analysis results might indicate that the birds in group 2 (HVT/LT) did not develop local immunity until 35 days of age From the practical point of view, the vectored ILT vaccine is more beneficial because of its ease of administration in the hatchery, lower labor cost, and the absence of clinical signs post vaccination. Its potential drawback, however, is poor local immunity and the slow onset of optimal immunity in commercial broiler chickens

  ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari penggunaan ramuan herbal terhadap income over feed cost  ayam broiler. Materi  yang digunakan pada  penelitian ini adalah: ayam broiler DOC. Penelitian ini dirancang dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan dan masing-masing perlakuan terdiri dari 4 ulangan. Perlakuan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penggunaan ramuan herbal dalam air minum dengan level penggunaan sebagai berikut : P0: tanpa penambahan ramuan herbal, P1:air + 10 % ramuan herbal, P2: air  + 15 % ramuan herbal, P3: air + 20% ramuan herbal. Variabel yang di amati  dalam penelitian ini adalah konsumsi pakan, biaya pakan, dan income over feed cost ayam broiler. Data yang diperoleh (income over feed cost) di analisis dengan menggunakan analisis ragam dengan rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa biaya pakan tertinggi terdapat pada kelompok perlakuan P3 diikuti berturut-turut oleh P1, P2, P0 dan yang terendah adalah P0. Sedangkan pada P0 biaya pakan paling rendah karena tidak ada penggunaan ramuan herbal. Berdasarkan data penerimaan, penerimaan tertinggi terdapat pada kelompok kontrol P1 Rp 31.430,6  sedangkan penerimaan terandah terdapat pada kelompok P0 sebesar Rp 24.814,8.100 Rendahnya penerimaan dalam penelitian ini disebabkan oleh rendahnya bobot badan ayam broiler selama penelitian. Income Over Feed Cost selama penelitian yang tertinggi terdapat pada kelompok P3 (3.568), dan terendah terdapat pada perlakuan  P1 (979) P0 (1.964), P2 (1.937) karena biaya pakan lebih tinggi dari pada penerimaan.Ini berarti bahwa penggunaan ramuan herbal  dalam air minum berpengaruh sangat nyata (P< 0,01) terhadap Income Over Feed Cost. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan ramuan herbal sebagai feed additive  memberikan pengaruh sangat nyata terhadap IOFC ayam broiler.   Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using herbal ingredients on income over feed costs of broiler chickens. The material used in this study was: broiler DOC. This study was designed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and each treatment consisted of 4 replications. The treatment used in this study is the use of herbal ingredients in drinking water with the use level as follows: P0: without the addition of herbal ingredients, P1: water + 10% herbal ingredients, P2: water + 15% herbal ingredients, P3: water + 20% herbal concoctions. The variables observed in this study were feed consumption, feed costs, and income over feed costs for broiler chickens. The data obtained (income over feed cost) is analyzed using a variety of analysis with a completely randomized design (CRD). The results showed that the highest feed costs were found in the P3 treatment group followed by P1, P2, P0 and the lowest was P0. Whereas at P0 the cost of feed is lowest because there is no use of herbal ingredients. Based on acceptance data, the highest revenue was in the P1 control group of Rp. 31,430.6 while the lowest acceptance was in the P0 group of Rp. 24,814.8,100. The low acceptance in this study was caused by the low body weight of broiler chickens during the study. Income Over Feed Cost during the highest research was found in the P3 group (3,568), and the lowest was found in the treatment of P1 (979) P0 (1,964), P2 (1,937) because the cost of feed was higher than acceptance. drinking water has a very significant effect (P <0.01) on Income Over Feed Cost. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the use of herbal ingredients as additive feeds has a very significant effect on IOFC broiler chickens.

This study was done to determine the impacts Yucca schidigera supplementation to drinking water on the excretion of nitrogen, and subsequently the level of ammonia, intestinal bacterial count, hematological and biochemical parameters, and some performance parameters. A total of 270 one-day old Cobb 500 chicks were equally divided into three groups (90 chicks/group). The first control group (G1) was fed on the basal diets without any yucca supplementation. The 2nd and 3rd groups (G2 and G3) were fed on basal diets with Yucca Plus liquid®, at an 8 h/day supplementation rate of 0.5, and 1 mL/L to drinking water, respectively. The chicks that received yucca showed significant decreases in litter nitrogen content, when compared to controls. The chicks that received liquid yucca had reduced counts of total bacteria (TBC) (p < 0.05), Escherichia coli, and a non-significant increase in the number of lactic acid producing bacteria. They also showed increased activity of antioxidant enzymes, increased levels of immunoglobulins M and G, and decreased levels of lipid peroxidation biomarkers, without a harmful effect on liver and kidney function. The chicks that received yucca showed a better feed conversion ratio. In conclusion, the use of natural additives is necessary to decrease nitrogen losses, feed cost, and environmental pollution; without adverse impacts on animal performance. Liquid supplementation of saponins is valuable for the performance, gut health, and welfare of broiler chickens.

We investigated the effects of fermented potato protein (FPP), supplied through drinking water, on growth performance of broiler chickens. A total of 288 male broiler chickens were divided into two groups: a control group and an experimental group supplemented with 0.01% FPP in drinking water. The FPP group had a significantly higher BWG and ADG (P less than 0.01) and significantly improved FCR (Pless than 0.05). The percentage of breast was significantly higher (P less than 0.05) in fermented potato protein (FPP) group. The FPP group had an increased villus height (P less than 0.05) in duodenum and jejunum. Expression of IGF-1 gene in the liver was significantly higher in the FPP group than in the control group (P less than 0.05), whereas GHR gene expression did not differ between the groups at 37 days. This study suggests that FPP supplementation in drinking water improves growth performance of broiler chickens by stimulating IGF-1 gene expression in the liver and improving the intestinal morphology.
