Measurements of total fat depth and depth to the interface between the second and third fat layers were made on live pigs just prior to slaughter and on their hot and cold carcasses. The data were analyzed to predict the changes that would take place in these measures of fat depth during slaughter and carcass cooling. A statistical interaction was detected between slaughter weight and the animal/carcass state at the time of measurement for the total fat measurement only. This suggests that measurements taken to the interface of the second and third fat layers will exhibit a more consistent relationship between live animal and carcass values. Key words: Swine, ultrasonic probes, slaughter weight, carcass fat

Twenty-eight Peppin Merino wethers were equally divided into two groups, a continuously grown group and a group which suffered a 6-week period of liveweight loss followed by recovery. Wethers in the continuously grown group were slaughtered over a range of liveweights; wethers in the restricted group were slaughtered over the same range of liveweights during the recovery phase. Each animal was totally dissected and individual muscles weighed. Several linear measurements and a cross-sectional area measurement were made of the longissimus muscle (M. longissimus thoracis et lumborum). Dry matter, ether extract, nitrogen, and energy measurements were determined for the total muscle tissue. The relationship of the high impetus and low impetus muscles to total muscle weight was determined. No significant effects of treatment were shown on any of the M. longissimus measurements nor on the chemical and energy values. The relationship of the weight of the low impetus muscles to that of total muscle was not significantly different between groups, but the same relationship for the high impetus muscles was highly significantly different. It is concluded that the weight relationship of high impetus muscles to total muscle is a sensitive test to differentiate between normal and recovering muscle. It cannot of course be applied in the live animal.

There is little available information on the influence of dietary energy on fat stores in the sow or on the relationship between these stores and backfat thickness measured at the P2 site. The present study was therefore designed to determine the influence of dietary energy intake in pregnancy on the fat stores of the sow after three parities including its relationship with P2 measurements taken at slaughter. In addition a comparison was made between ultrasonic measurement of P2 on the live animal and P2 measurements taken on the carcass. There were three treatments with 15 sows per treatment which were rationed by live weight to receive approximately 30, 26, 23 MJ DE/day at 120 kg (Table 1). During lactation all sows were fed to a scale recommended by the ARC (1981) After weaning their third litter the sows were slaughtered and the left side of the carcass dissected into shoulder, ham, loin and belly joints as described by Fortin (1980). These were weighed, minced and analysed for fat content by the Folch method. P2 measurements were taken ultrasonically on the live animal, by probe on the hanging carcass and by straight measurement on the dissected loin.

This article uses theological-ethical approach to focus on the presentation of the relationship of religion and state in the concept of principled pluralism and provides a reflection on the life of the nation and state in Indonesia which has Pancasila. The theological basis used as a reference is the Reformed theology of the Neo-Calvinism wing which was pioneered by Abraham Kuyper and forwarded by ideas from Kuyperians such as Gordon Spykman, James Skillen, Jonathan Chaplin. The author will argue that Pancasila is in harmony with principled pluralism. KEY WORDS: principled pluralism, structural pluralism, confessional pluralism, Pancasila.

Embroidery is the craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn. Embroidery may also incorporate other materials such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins. In modern days, embroidery is usually seen on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, dresses, stockings, and golf shirts. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of thread or yarn color. Embroidery can be classified according to what degree the design takes into account the nature of the base material and by the relationship of stitch placement to the fabric. The main categories are free or surface embroidery, counted embroidery, and needlepoint or canvas work. Embroidery was an important art in the Medieval Islamic world and in Azerbaijan, too. The article dedicated to the medieval embroidery of Azerbaijan. It was given some information about this part of weaving craft. Key words: weaving, embroidery, textile, archaeology, ethnography

Thirty-eight lambs (22 rams, 16 ewes), 25 Holstein cows and 30 steers were evaluated ultrasonically for subcutaneous fat thickness. Urea space was also estimated, using the dilution principle, by a single injection of a known amount of urea and taking a single blood sample 12 min later. All lambs and cattle were slaughtered within 2 days and the half-carcasses were separated into fat, lean and bone. Urea space (R2 = 0.10) and fat thickness (R2 = 0.18) in lambs were poorly related to the weight of half-carcass lean tissue. Neither urea space nor fat thickness improved the level of explained variation in half-carcass lean tissue weight over that explained by liveweight alone (R2 = 0.73). Urea space showed a larger association with half carcass lean weight in cows (R2 = 0.55) than in steers (R2 = 0.14), but again did not improve the relationship provided by liveweight alone (R2 = 0.60). Fat thickness provided nonsignificant regressions (P < 0.05) with half-carcass lean weight both in cows and in steers. Liveweight was the dominant independent variable (R2 = 0.33) for predicting total fat in lamb half-carcasses; urea space (R2 = 0.08) and fat thickness (R2 = 0.13) did not improve the prediction given by liveweight alone. Fat thickness was poorly related to total fatness both in steers (R2 = 0.12) and in cows (nonsignificant regression). A multiple regression equation combining fat thickness and liveweight provided the best prediction of half-carcass fat in cows, whereas a similar equation with the addition of urea space gave the best prediction of half-carcass fat in steers. The measurement of urea space and fat thickness to predict the weight of carcass tissues (lean, fat) in live lambs and cattle over the weight (41.9 + 9.7 kg(SD) lambs, 624 ± 62.8 kg cows and 466 ± 63.2 kg steers) and fatness (19.9 ± 3.27% (SD) lambs, 21.9 ± 2.18% cows and 20.9 ± 3.98% steers) ranges studied was of limited value. Key words: Urea dilution, ultrasound, live animal evaluation, carcass composition

Purpose. The aim of the article is generalization of theoretical provisions on the nature, level and quality of trade services to consumers, identification of the content relationship between them and the role in meeting market demands of the population. Methodology of research. The following research methods were used to achieve this goal: theoretical analysis, abstract and logical – to reveal the essence of trade services, its level and quality; interpretations and comparisons – to determine the relationship and interaction of the concepts of “level” and “quality” of trade services; graphical – to visualize the classification of indicators for assessing the quality of trade services. Findings. It is established that trade service in modern conditions together with quality of the goods offered to consumers is an element of maintenance of competitive advantages of the trading enterprises. This is due to the growing demands of consumers not only to the consumer characteristics of goods, but also related to their sale of trade services. It is substantiated that the concepts of “level of trade service” and “quality of trade service” are not identical concepts. The first of them reflects a set of elements of providing consumers with a variety of services to create a comfortable environment for the purchase of goods and reflects the situation “present or absent” a specific element of trade services. The second is the degree of compliance of the level of trade service with the expectations and needs of consumers, which can be quantified. Originality. The substantiation of the essence, content and correlation of the concepts “the level of trade service” and “quality of trade service”, their influence on the competitiveness of trade enterprises was further developed. Practical value. Substantiated research results can be used by commercial enterprises to assess the effectiveness of their activities in terms of ensuring a higher level and quality of trade services on the basis of these elements and indicators. Key words: trade enterprise, trade service, level of trade service, quality of trade service, competition.
