Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of feeding fababean meal diets to laying hens. Body weight, feed consumption, egg production, egg weight, eggshell strength, and hatchability of eggs were the parameters recorded. In exp. 1, where two types of hens (Single Comb White Leghorn (SCWL) and broiler breeders) were maintained in floor pens, hens fed a diet containing fababean meal had lower final body weights, lower average egg weight, and lower percentage hatchability of eggs than those fed soybean meal. Feed utilization, egg production, and eggshell strength were not significantly affected by diets. In exp. 2, in which SCWL were maintained in cages, hens fed diets containing 29.75% fababean meal required more feed per dozen eggs, had lower egg weights and had lower percentage hatchability than hens fed diets containing 7.20% soybean meal. Body weights, feed per bird per day, egg production, and eggshell strength were not significantly affected by diets. Supplemental dietary lysine improved feed conversion and percent hatchability of eggs for hens fed the fababean diets. The combined number of early dead chicks and infertile eggs was higher for eggs from the hens fed fababean meal diets than those fed soybean meal diets.

A total of 115 hilly chickens (92 female and 23 males) and 35 naked neck hilly Chickens (28 females and 7 males) were reared in open sided poultry house for 10 months period to compare their productive and reproductive performances. The mean body weights of adult female and male hilly birds and naked neck hilly birds were 2244, 2005 and 2664, 2576 g respectively. The age at first egg of both type of birds were 147 and 159 days respectively and hen-day egg production were 27±1.4 and 35±3.3 respectively. The average egg weight was 41±4 and 38±3.6 g respectively. Both type of bird per day average feed consumption were 97.61±11 and 102±22 g and mortality were 15.56±3.7 and 11.42±2.7 percent respectively. The average hatchability percentage performed by 14 broody hens reared on litter floor was 67.5±10 and 57±22 percent respectively. The average hatching egg weight and chick weight were 47.28±3, 41.48±1 and 31.4±3, 29.6±4 g respectively. The body weight of growing hilly bird and Naked Neck hilly bird after eleven weeks of age were 727.3±17.4 and 645±97.6g, respectively and Feed conversion ratios (FCR) were 3.39 and 3.34 respectively. It was concluded that Hilly chicken improved by body weight than previous year and both feathered and Naked Neck Hilly chicken given an indication of meat type native chicken and required to reproduce to have large stock for undertaking conservation and further improvement programme.Asian J. ABSTRAKLimbah udang merupakan limbah pengolahan udang yang memiliki potensi sebagai pakan sumber protein bagi ternak puyuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji penggunaan tepung limbah udang (TLU) sebagai sumber protein pakan pada puyuh fase layer. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap empat perlakuan lima ulangan perlakuan yang digunakan terdiri dari empat level penggunaan tepung limbah udang dalam ransum yaitu P0 (kontrol), P1 (5% TLU), P2 (7,5% TLU) dan P3 (10% TLU), tiap unit perlakuan disi dengan 5 ekor puyuh. Puyuh yang diguanakan adalah puyuh fase layer umur 20 minggu, sebanyak 100 ekor yang didistribusikan kedalam 20 unit percobaan. Bahan pakan yang digunakan adalah jagung, dedak padi, konsentrat petelur dan tepung limbah udang. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis ragam dan data yang berbeda nyata (P<0,05) diuji lanjut menggunakan uji duncan. Variabel yang diamati adalah performa produksi: konsumsi pakan, produksi telur, bobot telur dan konversi ransum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan TLU dalam ransum (P1,P2 dan P3) menunjukkan pengaruh nyata (P<0,05) dibanding kontrol pada minggu ke-tiga penelitian terhadap bobot telur dan konversi ransum, penggunaan TLU (P1,P2,P3) selama lima minggu meningkatkan konsumsi ransum (P<0,05) dibanding kontrol tetapi tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) terhadap produksi telur, bobot telur dan konversi ransum. Kesimpulan penelitian ini bahwa penggunaan TLU dalam ransum dapat digunakan hingga level 7,5% sedangkan level 10% menunjukkan adanya penurunan rata-rata performa produksi.Kata kunci: tepung limbah udang, puyuh fase layer, performa produksiABSTRACTShrimp waste was shrimp processing waste which has the potential as protein source for quail feed. This study was aimed to examine the use of shrimp waste flour (SWF) asprotein source for laying quail feed. This study used  completely randomized design that consist of four treatments and five replications.The treatmentswere using levels of shrimp waste flour in feed and consist of P0 (control), P1 (5% SWF), P2 (7.5% SWF) and P3 (10% SWF ). Each treatment unit was filled with 5 quails. One hundred of 20 weeks laying quails were used in this study. Self mixing feed that contained corn, rice bran, laying concentrate and shrimp waste flour were used in this study. The data obtained were analyzed using analyze of variance and continued using Duncan multiple range test. The variables observed were production performance that consist of feed consumption, egg production, egg weight and feed conversionratio. The results showed that the use of SWF in feed (P1, P2 and P3) showed a significant effect (P <0.05) compared to controls in the third week of research on egg weight and feed conversion ratio.The use of SWF (P1, P2, P3) for five weeks increased feed consumption (P <0.05) compared to controls but not significantly different (P>0.05) for egg production, egg weight and feed conversion. The conclusion of this study was the use of SWF in feed can be used until 7.5% on laying quail feed while the level of 10% indicates a decrease in average production performance.Keywords: shrimp waste flour, laying quail, production performance

Two 280-day trials, each involving 468, 22-week-old caged commercial egg-strain pullets were conducted to Compare millet and sorghum grain as the main source of energy in laying diets. Diets containing 59.2 and 0, 41.0 and 24.0, 31.2 and 36.3 and 0 and 72.5% of sorghum grain and pearl millet, respectively, were studied in both trials The diets containing millet supported egg production, egg weight, feed conversion and egg shell thickness equivalent to those of the all-sorghum diet. Except in Trial 1, feed consumption of the pullets fed the millet-containing   diets was not significantly lower than that of the pullets fed the all-sorghum diet. Haugh unit values tended to decrease as the level of millet was decreased. Feeding millet at a level as high as 72.5% Of the diet may have adverse effects on egg specific gravity and haugh units

Two hundred and sixteen Golden Hubbard strain of laying eggs, aged 32 weeks, were used to investigate the optimal level of maize offal (MO) that could replace maize with no detrimental effects on the performance of the hens. Graded levels of MO(0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50%) replaced equal levels of maize in six dietary treatments (1 to 6 respectively). There were no significant (P>0.05) differences between diets in egg production and weight weight gain of the hens. Egg weight was highly influenced (P<0.01) by the dietary treatments, with 30% MO producing the heaviest eggs. Increasing dietary levels of MO significantly (P<0.01) significantly increased feed consumption. Feed conversion efficiency differed (P>0.05) only at 50% levels of dietary MO. Of the egg quality parameters investigated, albumen, yolk and shell percentages were not affected (P>0.05) by the MO, while the Haugh Units were (P<0.05).

The effects of litter condition, antibiotics, barley and lucerne meal on the pigmentation of egg yolks and performance of crossbred layers were examined in two factorial experiments. In both experiments pigmentation of egg yolks was depressed by barley and improved either by 6 per cent lucerne meal in the diet or by housing the birds on wet litter. There were significant interactions between litter condition, antibiotics, lucerne meal and cereals on yolk colour, egg production and efficiency of feed conversion. In experiment 1, young pullets laid fewer eggs when fed diets with 57.2 per cent barley plus 6 per cent lucerne meal. This depression in egg production was alleviated by antibiotics. Feed intake was increased and feed conversion efficiency and body weight gains were decreased by barley, whereas lucerne meal decreased both feed intake and body weight gains. Pullets on wet litter laid larger eggs with lower Haugh unit scores. In experiment 2, older hens laid more eggs on diets with 6 per cent lucerne meal, particularly in the absence of barley and when housed on dry litter. Body weights of these hens were decreased by barley.

 The aim of this study was to evaluate the action of the phytase enzyme in diets formulated with variations in the crude protein content on performance and egg quality of commercial layers. A total of 336 commercial layers were housed at eight birds per cage in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement with seven replicates. Treatments consisted of four crude-protein levels (17, 15, and 13%) and two enzyme levels (0 and 500 FTU kg-1 diet), distributed in a completely randomized design. Feed intake, egg production, feed conversion per dozen eggs and per kilogram, egg weight and mass, specific gravity, eggshell thickness, and Haugh unit were measured over five 28-day periods. The performance of commercial layers fed the diet containing 13% crude protein worsened, irrespective of phytase addition. However, at 15% crude protein, phytase inclusion did not affect feed conversion or egg weight. Inclusion of phytase leads to equal egg-quality and performance results at the dietary crude protein levels of 17 and 15%. The crude protein content of 13%, with or without phytase, is not recommended for the diet of brown-egg layers.

Two experiments examined the effect on the performance of Leghorn hens given diets containing flame-roasted grains from 140 to 490 d of age. In exp. 1, the inclusion of barley, corn and wheat roasted at 121, 119 and 149 °C, respectively, had no significant (P > 0.05) effect on productive performance. Experiment 2 contained a factorial arrangement of treatments that involved two sources of dietary barley (non-roasted or flame-roasted at 154 °C), two methods of milling (hammer or roller) and two dietary protein levels (15 or 18%). Hens given the diets that contained roasted barley had lower (P < 0.01–0.001) 490-d body weights, egg production, early egg weight (196 d) and number of extra large sized eggs, and higher (P < 0.05–0.01) feed conversion, monetary returns, interior egg quality and number of medium sized and grades B and C eggs than those fed the non-roasted barley control diet. Mortality, the number of large-sized eggs and egg weights, feed conversion and the occurrence of blood spots were higher (P < 0.05–0.001) while the number of medium-sized eggs was lower (P < 0.05–0.001) when the hens were fed roller compared with hammer-milled grains. Hens given the 18% protein-containing diets had higher (P < 0.05–0.01) 490 d body weight, egg production, monetary returns and numbers of small sized and grades B and C eggs, but lower (P < 0.05) mortality than those receiving the diets that contained 15% protein. Two experiments were conducted to assess the nutritive value of crab meal for 200- and 300-kg weaned beef calves. In exp. 1, the addition of 10 or 20% soybean meal in a barley-based concentrate offered at up to 2 kg head−1 d−1 had a positive effect on growth rate and feed conversion efficiency of the 200-kg crossbred heifers fed hay ad libitum (P < 0.05). However, the incorporation of crab meal at levels of 15 and 35% of the concentrate mixture reduced (P < 0.05) feed consumption and growth. Levels of both 15 and 35% crab meal in the barley concentrate appeared to require an adaptation period by the heifers since feed intake and the weight gains improved with time. In exp. 2, steer calves weighing 200 or 300 kg were fed up to 1% of body weight of concentrate mixtures containing 20% soybean or 35% crab meal. Crab meal inclusion at 35% of the grain ration resulted in reduced feed intake and performance by the calves with most of this negative effect eliminated after a period of adaptation. This study aims to determine the effect of giving leaves bangun-bangun (Coleus Amboinicus Lour) in the ration to egg production, feed consumption, feed conversion, egg weight, egg yolk color and to find out level of administration of giving leaves bangun-bangun (Coleus Amboinicus Lour) in the best ration for egg production, feed consumption, feed conversion, egg weight, egg yolk color.This research was carried out for 6 months starting from February to July 2015 at the Farm of the Agriculture Polytechnic State of Payakumbuh. This study used 80 heads of 9-month-old laying hens, the brown isa strain divided randomly into 20 experimental units, and each experimental unit consisted of 4 tails and each individual was placed in a cage single. The chickens are kept for 6 weeks, and the data collection is carried out for 4 weeks of maintenance, every day the egg production is recorded, the eggs are weighed, each week the ration is weighed to get feed consumption, feed conversion, egg yolk brightness, egg yolk cholesterol, egg weight.

 This study aimed to evaluate the effect of using leaf flour of Indigofera zollingeriana which was added to the ration on the productivity and quality of Arab chicken eggs. This research conducted in March to May of 2018. This research conducted at the Permata Poultry Farm Group in Wua Wua Village, Kendari. This research used a completely randomized design with four (4) treatments and four (4) replications. The experimental ration which was tested consisted of: P0 = The Ration contained 0% Indigofera leaf flour, P1 = ration containied 10% Indigofera leaf flour, P2 = Ration contained 15% Indigofera leaf flour, and P3 = Ration contained 20% Indigofera leaf flour. The parameters were observed feed consumption, egg weight, feed conversion, daily egg production. The research data were analyzed by using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) based on RAL in using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) software. If the treatment has a significant effect, further testing will be carried out with the Duncan Multiple Range Test. The results of this study showed that the addition leaf flour of indigofera zollingeriana in Arab chicken rations affected the feed conversion and egg weight of Arabic chicken, however indigofera leaf flour did not affect the feed consumption and egg production of Arab chickenKeywords: Indigofera Zollingeriana, Feed conversion, Egg Production, Arabic Chicken.
