Fossombronia zuurbergensis Perold, sp. nov. from Eastern Cape is described. It is distinguished by having leaves and pseudoperianths with markedly dentate margins; the spore ornamentation on the distal face consists of ridges which can be quite variable, although, at least some of them run parallel to each other in straight or curved, short or long ridges, others occurring at right angles to the former. New records for F. capensis var. capensis and F. crispa are reported for Eastern Cape.

A miscellaneous collection of mostly small holothuroids, comprising some 140 specimens, received from the Iziko South African Museum (SAM), are here recorded and/or briefly described. Of these, one jar contained a badly mutilated holothuroid which was unidentifiable and hence not included here. The remaining material comprises 18 nominal species and an indeterminate elasipodid, perhaps representing a species of Benthodytes. Of the 18 nominal species, four are new to science, one of which has already been described as Trachythyone flaccida Thandar, 2013. Another, although represented by a single mature specimen from deep-water off the Transkei coast (Eastern Cape Province), is so different from its congeners that it is also described as a new species, Stereoderma mohammedi n. sp. Two other specimens, although juvenile, are so extraordinary in their composition of ossicles, that they are also taken to represent another new species, ?Temparena trouspetita n. sp. The collection also includes a single specimen of Synallactes, which together with a specimen misidentified as S. viridilimus by Thandar (2008), is also described as a new species, S. quatrami n. sp. The remaining species proved to be either new records for the southern African region or already well-known southern African forms whose distribution ranges have now changed.

Riccia sarcosa Volk Perold, a new species endemic to southern Africa is described. This species belongs to the section  Pilifer Volk (1983), which now comprises 8 species characterized by the dorsal epithelium consisting of loose cell pillars.  R. sarcosa is recognized by the distinct white margins of the thallus, by inconspicuous hyaline scales that do not extend above the thallus margins and by the spore ornamentation consisting of round, deep-set areolae or foveae.

A new species of chimaera, Chimaera notafricana sp. nov., is described from specimens collected off the west and south coasts of southern Africa. The new species is distinguished from its closest congener, the eastern North Atlantic Chimaera monstrosa, by a combination of morphometric characters and coloration: pectoral fin when depressed reaches to origin of pelvic fin base; caudal fin ventral margin terminating slightly posterior to caudal fin dorsal margin insertion; distance from anterior base of dorsal-fin spine to center of supratemporal canal short (6.5–14.8% HDL); pelvic claspers externally trifid and short (12.1–12.3% BDL), divided for distal one-third of length, not extending past distal tip of pelvic fins; uniform blackish brown with dark bluish streaking, precaudal tail with longitudinal light and dark stripes. This new species has a restricted distribution from Lüderitz, Namibia to south of Algoa Bay, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Species in section Pilifer Volk (1983) are often very difficult to identify (Perold 1990b). Most of them require close examination of the dorsal cell pillars in reasonably fresh collections, as these cells can seldom be reconstituted in long dried material.The three species,  R elongata.  R ampullacea and R trachyglossum, here described as new, have been maintained in cultures for lengthy periods, during which their dorsal cells were studied. The spore ornamentation was also quite useful in separating these species.  R elongata is known from eastern Transvaal,  R. ampullacea from the Witteberg Mountains of the eastern Cape Province and the Drakensberg Mountains of Lesotho and Natal, and R. trachyglossum is so far known only from (he highlands of Lesotho.

A new species of Amanita sect. Roanokenses, A. brunneofolia, from South Korea, is described based on morphological and molecular evidences. The species is characterized by medium- to large-sized basidiomata, a greenish white pileus covered with brownish, floccose pyramidal volval remnants, an appendiculate margin, reddish brown lamellae, a long radicating stipe, and ellipsoid to elongate amyloid basidiospores. Based on both nrLSU and combined dataset (nrLSU, rpb2 and tef1-α), A. brunneofolia formed a monophyletic clade and clearly separated from other Amanita species. In addition, we describe two other Amanita species in A. sect. Roanokenses, namely, A. caojizong and A. sphaerobulbosa. This is the first report of these species for South Korea.

A new species of amphipod, Bathyporeia watkini sp. nov. from the Atlantic coasts of North Africa is described. This very characteristic species is abundant in some lagoons and estuaries near 28°N. New morphological information on B. elkaimi d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is given after specimens that were recently collected on the Atlantic coasts of southern Spain and South Portugal. The male of B. ledoyeri d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is described for the first time and new records of North African B. guilliamsoniana (Bate, 1857) and B. chevreuxi d'Udekem d'Acoz and Vader, 2005a are discussed.
