I am indebted to the Rev. Robert Connell for some very interesting Coleopterous remains in black lignite from the south end of Cordova Bay, Victoria. The deposit is overlain by about 180 feet of clay, sand, and gravel, the Cordova sands and gravels and Maywood clays constituting the Puyallup interglacial deposits, with Vashon drift above. Of the Puyallup deposits the Maywood clays are the older, and in them is the lignite bed with marine shells in the overlying clay and finely stratified whitish clay underlying it. The lignite contains pieces of wood, seeds, and other plant remains.

Thirty-one species of eutardigrades were collected on five mountains on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, during July 1986 and July 1987. Three of the species found were new to science, including 1 species, Platicrista cheleusis n.sp., described herein and 2 species described elsewhere, and 21 others are new to British Columbia; 13 of these are also new to Canada.

A well-preserved third molar of a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) was recovered from sand and gravel forming the highest (Herman) prominent strandline of Lake Agassiz near Embden in western Cass County, North Dakota. The Herman strandline is estimated to have formed about 11 500 years BP, and presumably the tooth is of similar age. Perhaps the animal lived in a tundra-like area near the Lake Agassiz shoreline.Additional evidence suggests that woolly mammoths occupied a tundra-like range south of the Wisconsin ice sheets extending from southern British Columbia to the Atlantic continental shelf off Virginia.
