In this contribution we report the observation of an individual of the migrant dragonfly Pantala flavescens (Fabricius, 1798) found at Montanaro (Piemonte, Italy) on 14 Aug 2019. This represents the first record of the species for mainland Italy and one of the very few available for Western and Central Europe before 2019. We discuss two hypotheses on the origin of this individual integrating available literature with very recent records retrieved from citizen science faunistic platforms.

In 2015, we recorded the first attack of the great spruce bark beetle, Dendroctonus micans (Kugelann) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) on non-native Picea orientalis (L.) and Picea pungens (Engelmann) in Slovakia. To our knowledge, the occurrence of D. micans on P. orientalis in Central Europe has not been described yet. We found that D. micans preferred P. orientalis over P. pungens and other coniferous trees in urban areas. In laboratory conditions, 352 adults of D. micans emerged and only 1 predator, Rhizophagus grandis (Gyllenhal) (Coleoptera: Monotomidae), was recorded. D. micans has a potential to become a serious pest of P. orientalis and P. pungens in urban, and in air-polluted areas.

AbstractBetween 2012 and 2014, in the sub-regions of Lake Balaton (Hungary) and the adjacent swamp called Kis-Balaton having stocks of biting mosquito species with large number of specimens, we regularly performed imago collections. A finding of the lymnaeid species Ladislavella occulta (Jackiewicz, 1959) [Mollusca: Gastropoda: Lymnaeidae] in Hungary is reported, which is the first record of this snail in the country. The shells of L. occulta were found in 1989 in the marsh area of the Bátorliget Nature Reserve. The current distribution of this species in Eastern and Central Europe is reviewed. It is hypothesized that L. occulta represents a relic species, whose origin may be traced back to the Pleistocene

Helophorus villosus Düftschmid, 1805, known formerly from Central Europe, has been recorded for the first time from Ukraine (Odessa Region). A description of the species and data on its ecology and geographic distribution are given. H. villosus is proposed to be included in the Red Book of Ukraine.

The assemblages of phytoseiid mites on the leaves of Tilia cordata and T. platyphyllos planted in heterogeneous urban habitats were studied. Six phytoseiid species, namely, Euseius finlandicus, E. gallicus, Neoseiulella tiliarum, N. aceri, Paraseiulus talbii, and Typhlodromus (Typhlodromus) pyri, were found on the studied linden leaves. The results indicate that both T. cordata and T. platyphyllos may serve as favourable host plants for the generalists E. finlandicus and N. tiliarum in urban environments. Both generalist predatory species preferred sheltered leaf microhabitats. The first record of E. gallicus in central Europe and the consistent occurrence of other phytoseiid species on the surveyed linden trees confirm the important role of urban greenery in landscape biodiversity.

Se expone la primera cita de Aedes (Fredwardsius) vittatus (Bigot, 1861) en la comunidad autónoma de Galicia, conseguida gracias a la plataforma de ciencia ciudadana Mosquito Alert. Aun cuando este proyecto está enfocado hacia la detección y seguimiento de dos especies de culícidos exóticos invasores: Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus (Skuse 1894) y Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (L.), se evidencia la gran capacidad existente para el estudio de la biodiversidad así como la detección de otras especies por parte de plataformas que se apoyan en miles de ciudadanos motivados y un equipo experto. We present here the first record of Aedes (Fredwardsius) vittatus (Bigot, 1861) in the autonomous region of Galicia, obtained by the means of the citizen science project Mosquito Alert. Whereas this project only aims to the monitoring and early detection of the two invasive mosquito species Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus (Skuse 1894) and Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (L.), it is worth noting its capacities in regards to the general biodiversity study and the detection of mosquito species if a large pool of users combines with the expert knowledge.

Colobopsis truncata is a common Mediterranean species distributed mostly in southern and central Europe. In Romania, the species is expected to be widely distributed, but data are scarce. Both minor workers and soldiers of the species were collected in different sites during field observations in the spring of 2020. Herein we report the first record of Colobopsis truncata from Moldova and new records for southern Romania.

We report here the rediscovery of Tipulodes annae Przybyłowicz, 2003 (Erebidae, Arctiinae), which was originally collected in 1924 and has been unseen and not collected in 84 years, until 2008. We also report this species’ first record in Panama and additional localities in Colombia using citizen science platforms. This data is useful information for the conservation of this small moth, and it highlights the importance and utility of citizen science platforms in biodiversity research.

Abstract The paper reports on the first record of the Asian aquatic oligochaete species Monopylephorus limosus (Hatai, 1898) in Central Europe. The species was found in the lower course of the Bolina River (S Poland), which is contaminated with saline mine waters. One immature individual was collected in the late summer of 2017. M. limosus co-occurred with Paranais litoralis, Nais elinguis and juvenile Enchytraeidae. To date, M. limosus is one of the 29 non-native annelids that are known to occur in Poland.
