AbstractNearctic Stylogaster Macquart (Diptera: Conopidae) species concepts are revised. We provide redescriptions of S. biannulata (Say) and S. neglecta Williston, description of S. beresfordinew species, an illustrated key to species, range maps, and ecological data. Stylogaster beresfordi ranges from southern Mexico to southern New Mexico, United States of America. DNA barcode data are provided with neighbour-joining and Bayesian analyses and relationships of the three species are discussed. We hypothesise that S. neglecta and S. beresfordi are sister taxa, while S. biannulata is in a different clade.

AbstractThe Nearctic species of Dicraeus Loew (Diptera: Chloropidae) are revised. Eight species are recognised in North America: Dicraeus curtisinew species is described from the western United States of America; the Palaearctic species D. vagans (Meigen) is newly recorded in North America; D. elongatus Sabrosky; D. fennicus Duda; D. incongruus Aldrich; D. ingratus (Loew); D. tibialis (Macquart); and D. wilburi Sabrosky are redescribed. All species are described and illustrated and a key to species is provided. Dicraeus aberrans Sabrosky, described from New Mexico, United States of America, is transferred to the genus Notaulacella Enderlein as Notaulacella aberransnew combination. This represents the first Nearctic record of the previously Neotropical genus Notaulacella.

Stamnodes fergusonisp. nov. occurs from extreme southeastern Arizona through southern New Mexico east into western Texas, USA. Identity of the new species can be reliably determined by external features, genitalic characters, and COI haplotypes. Larvae are believed to be specialists on Salvia pinguifolia and S. ballotiflora. The adult and larval stages and male and female genitalia are illustrated, available DNA barcode data that support the recognition of the new Stamnodes are reviewed, and its life history briefly characterized.

The male hypopygium ofEpiphragma nebulosum(Bellardi) and wing and hypopygium ofEpiphragmaoreonymphaAlexander are illustrated for the first time.

Neocompsa bravo sp. nov. (Neoibidionini, Compsina) is described from the United States of America (southern Texas). Tetranodus reticeps (Bates, 1880) (Tillomorphini, Tillomorphina) is redescribed and recorded from Honduras. A key to species of Tetranodus is provided and notes on the number of specimens in the original description of Tetranodus reticeps (Bates, 1880) are provided. A new species of Pentanodes (Tillomorphini, Tillomorphina) from Nicaragua is described and the following new combinations are proposed for species formerly in Tetranodus: Pentanodes xanthocollis (Chemsak, 1977), and P. tropipennis (Chemsak, 1977).

A new eyeless cave-inhabiting species of the weevil genus Lymantes Schoenherr (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Molytinae: Lymantini) is described.  Lymantes reddelli Anderson, new species, occurs in caves in Bexar and Travis Counties, Texas, United States of America.  The new species is very similar to Lymantes nadineae Anderson but is found in caves south of the Colorado River whereas L. nadineae is only known from caves north of the Colorado River. Characters of external morphology and male genitalia to separate the species are given.

Twenty-three species of trilobites are recognized in the lower Mississippian Caballero and Lake Valley Formations of southern New Mexico. Species exhibit a segregation into shelf and off-shelf faunas, and can be subdivided into three distinct stratigraphic faunas. Species found in the Caballero Formation are similar to those found in the Chouteau Formation of Missouri. A second fauna, comprising species found in the Alamogordo, Nunn, and Tierra Blanca Members of the Lake Valley Formation, is correlated with the Fern Glen and Burlington Formations of Missouri. The third fauna found in the Arcente and Dona Ana Members of the Lake Valley Formation is correlated with the Warsaw and Salem Formations of the United States midcontinent region.Named species from the Kinderhookian Caballero Formation include: Dixiphopyge armata (Vogdes, 1891), Comptonaspis swallowi (Shumard, 1855), Brachymetopus indianwellsensis new species, Ameropiltonia perplexa new species, Griffithidella caballeroensis new species, and Kollarcephalus granatai new genus and new species. Named species from the Lake Valley Formation include: Pudoproetus fernglenensis (Weller, 1909), Breviphillipsia semiteretis Hessler, 1963, Griffithidella doris (Hall 1860), Phillibole planucauda (Brezinski, 1998), Piltonia carlakertisae new species, Australosutura llanoensis Brezinski, 1998, Thigriffides triangulatus new species, Thigriffides? alamogordoensis new species, Namuropyge newmexicoensis new species, Nunnaspis stitti new genus and new species, Hesslerides arcentensis new genus and new species, as well as an unnamed species of Proetides Hessler, 1962, Namuropyge Brezinski, 1988, and Thigriffides Hessler, 1965.

A new species of apoid wasps, Pseudoplisus willcoxi sp. nov., is described from Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. It is compared with all other species currently assigned to the genus. It has a remarkable overall color pattern, unique in Pseudoplisus, and a restricted collecting record: only a single specimen was collected outside of the Willcox area in Arizona (defined here as including the Animas area, New Mexico). Additionally, of the 34 remaining specimens, one was collected in 1974 and all other after 2001. In the present paper, the new species is diagnosed, described, and the relevant characters are illustrated. The geographic distribution and its heterogeneous collecting record are briefly discussed.

AbstractFrom the Santiago Ixtaltepec area, in Oaxaca State, southern Mexico, 11 species of productoid brachiopods, including a new genus and five new species, are described.Semicostellasp.,Antiquatoniasp.,Keokukia? sp.,Inflatia inflata,Reticulatiacf.R.huecoensis,Buxtonia websteri,Weberproductus donajiaen. gen. n. sp.,Dictyoclostus transversumn. sp.,Inflatia coodzavuiin. sp.,Buxtonia inexpletucostan. sp., andFlexaria magnan. sp. were collected from eight stratigraphic levels of the Ixtaltepec Formation. The presence ofSemicostellasp.,Keokukia? sp. andInflatia inflatain the basal strata, Units 1 to 3, of the formation indicate a Viséan-Serpukhovian (Late Mississippian) age.Reticulatiacf.R.huecoensisandBuxtonia websteri, found in Units 6 to 8, confirm the Pennsylvanian age for upper strata of the Ixtaltepec Formation.InflatiaandFlexariaare present in the uppermost beds of the formation so it is possible to extend their upper stratigraphic range to the Middle Pennsylvanian. All these taxa also occur in the United States Midcontinent, suggesting that during the Carboniferous the epicontinental sea extended at least to central Mexico.

AbstractThe genus Ericydeus Pascoe (Polydrosinae: Naupactini) distributed throughout the United States of America up to Argentina is revised and a cladistic analysis including 16 species is conducted. Three new species are described: E. bahiensis, E. argentinensis and E. cupreolus. Ericydeus humeralis Hustache is synonymized under E. nigropunctatus (Chevrolat); and E. modestus viridans (Boheman) and E. modestus duodecimpunctatus (Dalla-Torre, Emden & Emden) are elevated to species rank. Other valid species are: E. hancocki (Kirby), E. schoenherri (Perty), E. sedecimpunctatus (Linnaeus), E. yucatanus (Champion), E. roseiventris (Champion), E. quadripunctatus (Champion), E. modestus (Gyllenhal), E. forreri (Champion), E. lautus (LeConte) and E. placidus (Horn). In the cladogram obtained the species from South America gather in a clade (E. argentinensis, E. sedecimpunctatus, E. nigropunctatus, E. schoenherri, E. hancocki, and E. bahiensis) and the species from Central and North America form a separate clade (E. yucatanus, E. roseiventris - E. quadripunctatus, E. cupreolus, E. viridans - E. modestus, E. duodecimpunctatus, E. forreri, E. lautus - E. placidus). The character evolution follows a southern-northern direction. The paper includes a redescription of the genus, redescriptions or descriptions of its 16 species, a dichotomous key, habitus photographs, drawings of diagnostic structures, distribution maps, a cladogram, and a discussion of the phylogeny and distribution of the genus.
