Female.—Length 7 mm. Head thick antero-posteriorly, the temples scarcely narrowed behind, distinctly broader than eyes viewed dorsally; vertex evenly convex; ocelli small ; ocellocular space fully three times diameter of lateral ocellus; malar space scarcely half basal width of mandible; face distinctly elevated above level of eye-margins, feebly shining with well separated fine punctures, the interspaces finely reticulately sculptured; antennae 23 segmented, first flagellar segment very nearly equal to second and third combined; thorax shining; propleura polished almost without punctures ; mesoscutum with only sparse punctures bearing vestiture ; mesopleura sparsely punctate above and polished impunctate behind, anteriorly and ventrally the punctures becoming more dense toward a patch of very fine dense punctures adjacent epicneimia; metapleura with larger shallow punctures which are somewhat confused by weak rugulae below; propodeum rather elongate, shining, impunctate, dorsally finely and faintly reticulate, median parallel longitudinal carinae very weak, lateral longitudinal carina distinct only on posterior half, apical transverse carina defined laterally but scarcely visible at middle; lateral face of propodeuin a little roughened; nervulus slightly postfurcal, nervellus broken about at middle.

A taxonomic revision of Anostomoides is herein presented based on a comprehensive revision of specimens deposited in fish collections and the literature. The present revision proposes that A. laticeps is a junior synonym of A. atrianalis, while A. passionis is a junior synonym of Leporinus nattereri, and the latter is thus transferred to Anostomoides, forming the new combination Anostomoides nattereri. Principal Components Analysis (PCA) showed that examined specimens form two distinct morphotypes, corroborating the validity of both A. atrianalis and A. nattereri. Anostomoides nattereri is distinguished from A. atrianalis by having four branchiostegal rays (vs. three), three pores in infraorbital one (vs. four), 37–39 pored lateral-line scales (vs. 41–44), lower lip with rounded dermal papillae (vs. forming ridges), three dark  rounded midlateral blotches (vs. three or four vertically elongated blotches and/or a faded dark longitudinal stripe), dark lines between scale series on posterior half of body on specimens smaller than 150 mm SL (vs. dark lines absent), a greater body depth (27.6–36.2 % vs. 24.5–38.7% of SL) and smaller interorbital distance (34.4–53.8 % vs. 42.6–67.3 % of HL). Anostomoides nattereri is distributed across several tributaries of the Amazon and Orinoco rivers, whereas A. atrianalis is widespread throughout the Amazon, Orinoco, and Essequibo basins. The genus Anostomoides is currently diagnosed based on a combination of non-exclusive characters: upturned or slightly upturned mouth with four premaxillary teeth including symphyseal tooth bicuspid or with blunt cutting edge, remaining teeth slightly tricuspid (with medial cuspid distinctly larger); four dentary teeth, symphyseal tooth with truncate cutting edge (without cusps); second tooth with a single large cusp, and two lateral teeth with three or slightly more small cusps.

Aedophronus echinatus, sp. n. (Pl. xxi, fig. 2).Derm black, with dense brown scaling, usually with an indefinite mottling of darker and paler scales ; the inflexed margins of the elytra fuscous.Head not very convex, with the median stria extending to the vertex and the anterior transverse stria slightly curved ; the infra-ocular margin much narrower than the base of the scape and not projecting ; the setae short, stout and curved backwards ; the eyes comparatively large, highest much behind the middle, and with the hind margin devoid of scaling. Rostrum longer than the head (5·5 : 4), much shorter than its basal width (5·5 : 7·5), narrowed in front, straight at the sides, with a shallow impression on the apical half and with no median carina ; the marginal carina of the epistome obtuse but distinct. Prothorax transverse (3·5 : 6), strongly rounded at the sides, widest at the middle, subtruncate at the apex, which is only slightly narrower than the base ; the dorsum with an abbreviated median stria on the basal half and bearing on the disk short curved setae like those on the head, the lateral ones much longer, stout, straight and pointed (when unbroken), the longest being about as long as the scape.

AbstractCentrocestus armatus (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) develops rapidly and produces eggs at 3 days postinfection in albino rats. Excysted metacercariae are pear-shaped and concave ventrally, with 42–44 peg-like circumoral spines. The entire body surface is densely covered with scale-like serrated spines. On juveniles, serration of the tegumental spines is greatest in the middle of the ventral and dorsal surfaces, and decreases anteriorly and posteriorly. Ciliated sensory papillae are concentrated around the oral sucker. Several nonciliated sensory papillae (type II papillae) occur equidistantly on the acetabulum and are arranged in a linear symmetry on the dorsal surface. On adults, the serration of the tegumental spines decreases to 14–17 tips on the ventrolateral surface. The high density of tegumental spines on posterior half of the body and the distribution of type II papillae on dorsal surface are considered to be characteristic of C. armatus.

Abstract Context.—The widespread use of the serum prostate-specific antigen test has increased the early detection of prostate cancer and consequently reduced grossly definable prostate cancers. Objective.—To find the most efficient gross sampling method for radical prostatectomy specimens not only preserving important prognostic factors but also being cost effective. Design.—We initially analyzed clinicopathologic features of the entire prostate sections from 148 radical prostatectomy specimens, which then were used to examine the impact of 5 partial sampling methods on tumor stage, Gleason score, extraprostatic extension, resection margin status, and paraffin block numbers. The methods included submission of (1) alternative slices, (2) alternative slices plus biopsy-positive posterior quarters, (3) every posterior half, (4) every posterior half plus one midanterior half, and (5) alternative slices plus peripheral 3-mm rim of the remaining prostate. Results.—Prostate cancers and their extraprostatic extension and resection margin involvement were commonly located in the right posterior portion of the prostate. Method 5 was most efficient, detecting all cases with extraprostatic extension and resection margin involvement and reducing 25% of paraffin blocks compared with the entire sampling of the prostate. The Gleason scores were retained in most of cases, except reversal of the primary and secondary Gleason grade component in only 2 cases (1%). Only 4 cases (3%) were downstaged within the same T2 stage. Conclusions.—These results demonstrate that sampling of alternative slices plus peripheral rim of the remaining prostate is the most efficient partial sampling method for radical prostatectomy specimens.

The guidance of axons during embryonic development is likely to involve both adhesive and repulsive interactions between growth cones and their environment. We are characterising the role and mechanism of repulsion during the segmental outgrowth of motor and sensory axons in the somite mesoderm of chick embryos. Axons are confined to the anterior half of each somite by the expression in the posterior half of a glycoconjugate system (48×103Mr and 55×103Mr) that causes the collapse of dorsal root ganglion growth cones when applied in vitro. Enzymatic cleavage of this fraction with specific combinations of endo- and exoglycosidases removes collapse activity, suggesting that carbohydrate residues are involved in the execution of collapse. A similar activity is also detectable in normal adult grey matter, suggesting roles for repulsion beyond the development of spinal nerve segmentation.

Objectives- Evaluate the perception of the female chin attractiveness by maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists and lay people through simulations of mentoplasty performed with the aid of a software. Profile photography along with lateral face teleradiography were manipulated using Dolphin Imaging Software version 11.8, and different clinical situations were designed. Methods: The alterations were performed with anteroposterior movements, with images of mentoplasty of advancement (+2, +3 and +4), and recoil (-2, -3, -4). The reference of the movement was given in relation to the True Vertical Line (TVL). Ninety people were interviewed. 30 orthodontists, 30 maxillofacial surgeons and 30 lay people. They observed the photos and classified the profile according to extremely pleasant, pleasant, unpleasant and extremely pleasant. To evaluate the presence of significant difference between the groups in relation to the profile analysis, the Fisher Exact test was used. Results: Most lay people, surgeons and orthodontists (46%) considered the chin at the limit of the TVL as an extremely attractive profile. 34.4% considered the chin 2 mm before the TVL as an attractive profile; chin 3 mm beyond the TVL as unattractive (45.5%), and the most unattractive ones were 4 mm beyond the TVL (75.6%). Conclusion: So the great majority of the people interviewed showed a preference for the positioning of the chin in the TVL or slightly Class II profile in female patients, which can guide professionals in a better planning.

The genus Candobrasilopsis gen. nov. is here described, with C. rochai gen. nov. sp. nov. as type species, from the alluvial valley of the Upper Paraná River. The enigmatic Candonopsis brasiliensis Sars, 1901 is here redescribed and transferred to this new genus, the new combination being Candobrasilopsis brasiliensis (Sars, 1901). The new candonid genus belongs to the tribe Candonopsini, because of the absence of the proximal seta on the caudal ramus. It is closely related to Latinopsis Karanovic & Datry, 2009, because of the relatively short terminal segment of the mandibular palp (length less than 1.5 times the basal width, while this segment is longer than three times the basal width in Candonopsis) and the large and stout b-seta on the T1. However, it differs markedly from Latinopsis in the size and shape of the calcified inner lamellae of both valves and in the type of hemipenis. We also discuss the doubtful allocation of several other genera to the Candonopsini, raise Abcandonopsis Karanovic, 2004 to generic status and reassess the uncertain position of Candonopsis anisitsi Daday, 1905 within Latinopsis.

<p class="abstract"><strong>Background:</strong> Galen first described the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) as a nerve that descended from the brain to the heart, then reversed the course and ascended to the larynx and caused the vocal cords to move. Tracheoesophageal groove is useful for identifying the RLN. In the present study we studied the course of RLN in tracheoesophageal groove and its anatomical position, in patients undergoing thyroid surgery.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods:</strong> The study was conducted in the Department of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery, SMGS Hospital, for a period of two years, on the patients who underwent thyroid surgeries. Tracheoesophageal groove was considered first landmark to identify RLN position and only after meticulous dissection in the groove, the nerve could be identified. The nerve was carefully dissected and its position evaluated in relation with trachea and esophagus.  </p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results:</strong> Trajectory of the nerves studied in the patients was mostly in the tracheoesophageal groove (TEG), seen in 113 (69.75%) nerves. 16.05% of the nerves were seen in the posterior half of the trachea while 4.94% of the nerves were seen to travel from TEG to anterior half of trachea and 1.85% from TEG to posterior half of trachea. 6.17% of nerves travelled from oesophagus to the TEG.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions:</strong> A uniform dissection procedure should be followed and the recurrent laryngeal nerve must be first looked for in the TEG, which serves as important landmark and later any deviation must be considered.</p><p class="abstract"> </p>

A study has been made of the morphogenetic properties of anterior and posterior skin from the lower forelimb of the axolotl. The basic experiment consisted of a graft of a half cuff of skin from a donor to a host limb followed by a 2-week healing period, amputation through the graft, and a study of the resulting regenerate. Limbs with double posterior skin formed double posterior regenerates and, in contrast, limbs with double anterior skin formed normal or slightly hypomorphic regenerates. Posterior skin from post-metamorphic animals had a similar but weaker effect to that from ordinary axolotls. Immunological rejection of allografts could be completely avoided if the donor limb was transplanted to the flank of the host when both were at the stage of tail-bud embryos, and the skin graft was later carried out between the supernumerary limb and one of the host limbs. This technique was used to show that immunological rejection does not affect the formation of duplicates from the limbs with double posterior skin, and to facilitate the studies of the cellular provenance of the regenerate. The cellular composition of duplicate regenerates was studied by using both triploid donors and triploid hosts. It was shown that the posterior side of the duplications consisted wholly of host tissue and the anterior side consisted of mixed donor and host tissue. Formation of the duplicated regenerate therefore seems to involve positional reprogramming of both donor and host tissues together with metaplasia of the donor tissue. It was not possible to inhibit the duplication-inducing property of posterior skin by treatment with a variety of enzymes. A model based on the serial threshold theory of regeneration is advanced to explain the results.This model successfully accounts for the observed non-equivalence of anterior and posterior skin, and also explains the different regeneration behaviour of anterior and posterior half limbs, the limited regeneration of double anterior limbs, and the pattern expansion and contraction shown by regenerates from double posterior limbs.
