AbstractDeutonymphs, and male and female adults, of Stygameracarus cooki sp.nov., and a male adult of S. canadensis sp.nov., are described from interstitial habitats associated with small streams in temperate North America. The genus Stygameracarus and the monobasic subfamily Stygameracarinae are proposed and diagnosed, based primarily on the shape of the capitulum and the highly modified structure of the pedipalps in both deutonymphs and adults, and the distinctive structure of the genital field region in adults. Possible relationships between members of the new genus and other Athienemanniidae are discussed, and a new key to the subfamilies of Athienemanniidae is presented.

AbstractLarvae, deutonymphs, and male and female adults of Platyhydracarus juliani sp.nov., and adults of P. parvipalpis sp.nov., are described from rheocrenes and small streams in western North America. The genus Platyhydracarus gen.nov. is proposed and diagnosed, based primarily upon the presence of genital acetabula both in the gonopore and on acetabular plates flanking the gonopore, and of a group of thickened setae anterior to the gonopore, in male adults. Possible relationships between Platyhydracarus and other Athienemanniidae are discussed, and a new key to the genera of Athienemanniinae is presented.

AbstractThe new genus Archepandemis, with type-species Parapandemis borealis Freeman, 1965, is described. Two new species, A. coniferana from British Columbia and Alberta and A. morrisana from New Brunswick, are distinguished from A. borealis by characters of maculation and especially of male and female genitalia.

AbstractThe name Neoligiagen.nov. is proposed for the “Oligia” semicana (Walker) species group in North America and 12 species, N. rubirena sp.nov., N. pagosa sp.nov., N. hardwicki sp.nov., N. inermis sp.nov., N. invenusta sp.nov., N. albirena sp.nov., N. lancea sp.nov., N. elephas sp.nov., N. lillooet sp.nov., N. surdirena sp.nov., N. canadensis sp.nov., and N. atlantica sp.nov. are described. Hadenella laevigata Smith is synonymized (synonymy restored) under Hadena tonsa Grote and Hadena hausta Grote is synonymized (synonymy restored) under Miana semicana Walker. Adults of all species are illustrated as well as male and female genitalia, where known.

AbstractAlastriagen. nov. is described, and Callierges tropicalis Schaus is transferred to the genus. Alastria chicosp. nov. is described from western North America and Alastria machosp. nov. is described from Costa Rica. We provide illustrations of the adults and genitalia of all three species, as well as the male genitalia of two related genera, Nedra Clarke and Actinotia Hübner.

Occigamasus n. gen., O. lindquisti n. sp. and O. makarovae n. sp. from Vancouver Island (Canada) and Oregon (U.S.A.) are described. Five other new species and their sites are noted but not enough specimens were available for adequate descriptions. Cycetogamasus californicus (Banks) sensu Hennessey and Farrier, 1988 is transferred to Occigamasus as a new combination.

AbstractThe species of the Lithophanelepida Grote complex are reviewed and two new species of the genus Lithophane Hübner from western North America are described. Adults of all species are illustrated, as well as male and female genitalia (where known) and larva of L.lepida and Lithophane itata (Smith). A key to species of the L. lepida group is provided.

The new genus Graziaphylus is described to include two new species, Graziaphylus joceliae and G. nigripes. This new taxon is part of a large suite of Heteroptera from Australia known to feed on species of Eremophila (Scrophulariaceae), including other members of the Miridae as well as the Tingidae. The appearance of Graziaphylus spp. is similar to that of Xiphoidellus Weirauch and Schuh from Australia, and to Chlamydatus Fieber from the Northern Hemisphere (among other genera), but with scalelike setae, and elongate pulvilli adnate over most of the claw length, and the distinctive structure of the male genitalia.

Validifemur gen. n. is described with two new species, V. pedodontus sp. n. and V. zapparolii sp. n., from the Shanxi Province of North China. These new taxa have some exceptional morphological characters, especially the strong protuberance on the last pair of legs in male. Both species are described based on both male and female specimens.

AbstractThe seven known species including two new species of Protearomyia are described and keyed: obscura (Walker) and mallochi n. sp., from southern Chile; cordillerensis McAlpine, martinia McAlpine and tricopleura n. sp., from temperate North America, and nigra (Meigen) and greciana McAlpine from Europe. Lectotypes are designated for cordillerensis and greciana. Male and female terminalia are figured where possible; female of martinia and male of trichopleura are unknown.
