AbstractA new species Clepsis (Siclobola) firthana is described from the northern Yukon Territory, Canada. Morphologically this species is closely related to the European C. strigana (Hübner) and the North American C. clemensiana (Fernald). Genitalic characters are given to distinguish C. firthana from the North American C. kearfotti Obraztsov and C. moeschleriana (Wocke) (which have similar markings), and C. clemensiana (Fernald).

A New Species

A new species, Pholis clemensi, referred to the family Pholidae, is named and described from 12 specimens taken in southern British Columbia waters and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Pholis clemensi is compared with other members of the genus, and a key is given to the North American species.

This is the second in a series of papers intended to establish a Lower Jurassic ammonite zonation that takes into account the biostratigraphic and biogeographic peculiarities of the North American succession. In North America the lower boundary of the Toarcian is drawn at the first appearance of Dactylioceras above the last occurrence of Amaltheus and Fanninoceras. The lower Toarcian is represented by the Kanense Zone; the middle Toarcian by the Planulata and Crassicosta zones; and the upper Toarcian by the Hillebrandti and Yakounensis zones. Section 5 on the Yakoun River in the Queen Charlotte Islands is designated the stratotype for the Planulata, Crassicosta, and Hillebrandti zones; section 3 on the Yakoun River is designated the stratotype for the Yakounensis Zone; an ideal stratotype for the Kanense Zone is not presently known. Reference sections further illustrating the faunal associations that characterize the zones are designated in eastern Oregon (Snowshoe Formation) and northern British Columbia (Spatsizi Group). The Dactylioceratidae, Harpoceratinae, and Hildoceratinae provide the most important zonal indicators for the lower Toarcian; Dactylioceratidae, Phymatoceratinae, and Bouleiceratinae for the middle Toarcian; and Phymatoceratinae, Grammoceratinae, and Hammatoceratinae for the upper Toarcian. Phymatoceras hillebrandti is described as a new species.

I am hardly prepaled at present to accept Isodontia elegans, Smith, as a variety of I. apicalis, Smith. The differences between the two seem to be very constant, and their distribution appears to be somewhat different, elegans being more a southern and western form, while apicalis occurs chiefly in the central, eastern and northern States.

A New Species

One of the most unusual results of intensive collecting in southern Manitoba in. 1958 was the discovery of this striking representative of a dominantly coastal genus of Ephydridae. It ivas collected at several times but in only the one locality, the Bald Head Hills, a region of active sand dunes in the largely stabilized, spruce-covered area representing the shores of the Pleistocene Lake Agassiz. The species is strikingly different from other species of the genus in its thoracic and wing pattern, hut in structural characters it is fairly typical.

A New Species

A new species of cerylonid with reduced eyes from the Great Smoky Mountains, Philothermus stephani sp. n., is described and illustrated. A revised key to the North American species of Philothermus is presented.
