AbstractThe genus Masistylum is redescribed. It is recorded for the first time in North America. M. stenommatum n. sp., from the Rocky Mountains of northern British Columbia, is described and figured.

AbstractThe genera Agria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830, Angiometopa Brauer & Bergenstamm, 1889, and Toxonagria Shewell, 1987 are diagnosed and their monophyly discussed. Diagnostic character states for the three genera in their present definitions are: Agria: Phallic tube with a pair of lateral sclerotizations slanting antero-ventrally from the apex; acrophallus strongly tapering. Angiometopa: Gonostylus with membranous lobe at base; phallic tube with a pair of armlike processes encompassing base of acrophallus. Toxonagria: Male hind femur thickened and curved; male cercus straight; acrophallus with broad, membranous phallotreme; male gonocoxal lobe with an extra subapical tooth or hook. The name Omocera Lioy, 1864 (an objective senior synonym of Angiometopa) is preoccupied by Omocera Chevrolat, 1835 (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae). Angiometopa is proposed as a senior synonym of Sarcofahrtia Parker, 1916, syn.n. Agria hikosana (Kurahashi, 1975), comb.n., Agria shinonagai (Kurahashi, 1975), comb.n., and Agria mihalyii (Rohdendorf & Verves, 1978), comb.n. are transferred from their previous position in Angiometopa. Angiometopa bajkalensis Kolomyietz & Artamonov, 1981 is recorded from the Nearctic Region for the first time (Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon), and Toxonagria arnaudi sp.n. is described from Canada (British Columbia) and USA (California).

Abstract The description of a new species of an erymid lobster, Stenodactylina beardi, from the Upper Cretaceous Haslam Formation of the Nanaimo Group on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, brings to fifteen the number of Erymidae in North America. The species are arrayed within five genera based upon configuration of carapace groove morphology, resulting in two new combinations, Stenodactylina bordenensis (Copeland, 1960) and S. foersteri (Feldmann, 1979). The new species exhibits for the first time a male pleopod and accessory structures within Erymoidea. We also provide a list of the North American species of Erymoidea.

A new species, Pholis clemensi, referred to the family Pholidae, is named and described from 12 specimens taken in southern British Columbia waters and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Pholis clemensi is compared with other members of the genus, and a key is given to the North American species.

We discuss seven species of tortricid moths that are leafminers at least in early instars. These include Grapholita thermopsidis Eiseman & Austin, new species, which feeds on Thermopsis rhombifolia (Pursh) Richardson (Fabaceae), along with two others for which larval hosts were previously unknown: Catastega triangulana Brown (Ericaceae: Arctostaphylos pungens Kunth) and Sparganothis xanthoides (Walker) (Polemoniaceae: Phlox divaricata L.). Parasitoids of G. thermopsidis include Dolichogenidea sp. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) and Zagrammosoma mirum Girault (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). The female genitalia of Epinotia nigralbana (Walsingham), a species that mines leaves of Arctostaphylos throughout larval development, are illustrated for the first time. Rhopobota finitimana (Heinrich), which feeds on Ilex spp. (Aquifoliaceae), is confirmed to mine leaves as has been documented previously in R. dietziana (Kearfott). Talponia plummeriana (Busck), which is known to feed in the developing ovaries of pawpaw (Annonaceae: Asimina spp.), also feeds in leaves before boring in the twigs and stems. Cenopis lamberti (Franclemont), previously reported from Persea sp. (Lauraceae), was reared from Symplocos tinctoria (L.) L’Hér. (Symplocaceae). Apart from the two exceptions noted above, all of these species exit their mines in later instars to feed in leaf shelters.

A new species Bradyidius saanichi from Saanich Inlet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, is described and illustrated in detail. This species is closely related to B. pacificus (Brodsky, 1950) among the six previously known species in the genus, but can be readily distinguished from the latter by the strongly divergent rostral rami in addition to some other differences.

AbstractCerodontha (Icteromyza) pilosan. sp. is described from the Yukon Territory. The Palaearctic species C. (I.) lineella (Zetterstedt) is recorded for the first time in North America, based on specimens from northern Canada and Alaska, and C. (I.) pollinosa (Melander) is synonymized with C. lineella. Cerodontha pilosa is most similar to C. (I.) longipennis (Loew) and C. (I.) lineella. Distinguishing characters and a modification of Spencer’s key to Canadian species of Cerodontha are given to separate these species.

A new species of parasitic copepod occurring in western North America is described, Ergasilus nerkae n. sp. An emendation of E. turgidus Fraser, 1920 and a redescription of E. auritus Markevich, 1940 are presented. A total of four species resembling E. caeruleus (E. turgidus, E. confusus Bere, 1931, E. auritus, and E. nerkae) have so far been described, and characters to distinguish the species of this group are given.

A single carapace and its counterpart of an erymoid lobster collected from the Middle Jurassic Smithers Formation in British Columbia, permits description of a new species, Eryma walkerae. The specimen represents only the fourth species of Eryma described from North America and documents a north polar route of dispersal for erymids into North America.

Seven species of the genus Camptochaeta, two of the genus Claustropyga and one of the genus Dichopygina are newly described from the Nearctic region. These are: Camptochaeta abnormalis sp. n., Cam. camptochaetosa sp. n., Cam. grimaldii sp. n., Cam. multispina sp. n., Cam. praexystica sp. n., Cam. subxystica sp. n., Cam. unispina sp. n., Claustropyga postbrevichaeta sp. n., Cl. subbrevichaeta sp. n. and Dichopygina praeaculeata sp. n. All new species are diagnosed and their distribution data are given. Three species, Camptochaeta duplicata Hippa & Vilkamaa, 1994, Claustropyga abblanda (Freeman, 1983) and Cl. sajanica (Mohrig & Antonova, 1978) are reported for the Nearctic region for the first time. With these new species, Camptochaeta includes 30 species, Claustropyga 15 species and Dichopygina 6 species in the Nearctic region now.

Almost all of the members of the subfamily Ethopolyinae occur in western North America, a few Pacific islands, the Orient and Europe, but only one established species had been known from North America east of the Rocky Mountains. This widespread and very common form, Bothropolys multidentatus (Newport), ranges throughout the East as far west as Missouri. The present new species is therefore of special interest in that it is the second endemic member of the subfamily to he recorded from east of the Rockies. The only other members of Zygethopolys, a genus closely allied to Bothropolys, are known only from Alaska, British Columbia, and thk state of Washington.
