AbstractThe genus Glutops Burgess is here considered to comprise eight species, three previously described from North America, a Japanese species transferred through synonymy, and four western North American species herein described as new. A key to the eight species is given.

A new species, Pholis clemensi, referred to the family Pholidae, is named and described from 12 specimens taken in southern British Columbia waters and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Pholis clemensi is compared with other members of the genus, and a key is given to the North American species.

All macropterous species of Aptilotus Mik are keyed, with descriptions of two new macropterous North American species, Aptilotus pogophallus and A. nigriphallus. New distributional records are given for other North American species, and brachyptery is noted for the first time in A. luctuosus (Spuler). Four new macropterous species of Aptilotus (glabrifrons, spinistylus, rufiscapus, and binotatus are described from Nepal. The relationships between the North American and Nepalese species are discussed. Minocellina Papp is synonomized with Aptilotus, and the two species formerly in Minocellina, A. thaii (Papp) and A. besucheti (Papp), are thus given as new combinations. Limosina carbonicolor Richards, from Ethiopia, is redescribed and transferred to Aptilotus.

Adults of Odontocepheus rumbleseatus n.sp. are described, the second Odontocepheus species known from North America. An unusual, deep posterior depression on the notogaster easily separates this species from all others in the genus Odontocepheus. Specimens were collected from hardwood leaf litter and rotten wood. The known distribution is Illinois and West Virginia south to northern Florida. Additional characters for separating the North American species O. oblongus (Banks) from O. elongatus (Michael) in Europe are presented, and the presence of O. elongatus in North America is documented.

A key to 38 North American species of Cryptanura is given. 30 species are recorded for Mexico; new data on their distribution are given. 10 new species from Mexico are de¬scribed; the following new synonymy is established: Cryptanura ectypa (Cresson, 1873) = C. vallis Porter, 1977, syn. n.; C. nitidiuscula Cameron, 1886 = C. bicarinata Cushman, 1945, syn. n.

AbstractThe large and complex genus Euxoa is divided into six subgenera: Orosagrotis, Longivesica, Euxoa, Chorizagrotis, Pleonectopoda, and Crassivesica. Orosagrotis and Chorizagrotis have until now been considered as valid noctuid genera by many workers. Longivesica and Crassivesica are here described as new. The taxonomy and distribution of North American species in all subgenera except the very extensive subgenus Euxoa are considered in the present paper. Only 49 species in a probable North American Euxoa fauna of some 200 species are included in the five subgenera reviewed here, however.Within the genus, species have been segregated into subgenera and species groups largely on the basis of the structure of the male genitalia, and particularly on the conformation of the vesica of the male. Keys to subgenera, species groups, and species are presented. No new species are described. Subspecies are not formally considered because an adequate analysis of the often complex geographic variation is beyond the scope of this paper.

DNA barcoding is used to verify characters to morphologically differentiate genetically distinct species of eastern North American small carpenter bees, Ceratina. Here we reveal that the common eastern North American species, Ceratina dupla s. l., is actually three separate species based on fixed differences in DNA barcode sequences and morphological characters. This study adds a new species, C. mikmaqi Rehan & Sheffield, to the Ceratina dupla species-group of eastern North America, and raises another form, C. floridana formerly C. dupla floridana, to full species. Temporal niche partitioning between C. dupla and C. mikmaqi and geographic isolation of C. floridana further support the division of the C. dupla s. l. group into three species. A diagnosis and description of the new species are provided, as is a key for eastern North American species of Ceratina.

Members of the genus Diamphidaxona Cook, 1963 are found from southeastern Canada to Argentina, with greatest diversity of species and species groups in the southwestern United States and Mexico. In this paper the three species of Diamphidaxona previously known from North America, D. pallida Cook, D. dolichosoma Cook and D. imamurai Cook, are redescribed. Eleven new species, including D. arizonica sp. nov., D. brevitarsa sp. nov., D. californica sp. nov., D. cavecreekensis sp. nov., D. chihuahua sp. nov., D. chiricahua sp. nov., D. cramerae sp. nov., D. neomexicana sp. nov., D. parvacetabula sp. nov., D. platysoma sp. nov. and D. sabinalensis sp. nov., are also described. North American species are allocated to two subgenera, the nominate subgenus and Diamphidaxonella subgen. nov., for which diagnoses are provided. New distributional data and a key for all North American species are presented.

The following is a purely provisional grouping of the described North American species of Sapromyza, made up from the descriptions alone. As such, it is offered for publication. The practical use of this kind of work does not need pointing out. It greatly facilitates the identification of species where the descriptions are scattered through various works. In the determination of the single new species described at the end of this paper, it was necessary to consult each description separately. It required but little additional labour to tabulate the leading points in the descriptions, thus relieving later students from the necessity of going through the same laborous process.

AbstractThe 50 known species of North American Clubiona Latreille, 1804 are rearranged in seven species-groups as follows: trivialis group (1 Holarctic, 4 Nearctic), obesa group (11 Nearctic), reclusa group (2 Holarctic, 3 Nearctic), pallidula group (1 Holarctic), abboti group (25 Nearctic), lutescens group (1 Holarctic, 1 Nearctic), maritima group (1 Nearctic). Clubiona quebecana and C. angulata are described as new species from eastern North America. C. kuratai Roddy, 1966, originally described from the female only, is synonymized under C. chippewa Gertsch, 1941, which was originally described from the male only. C. opeongo Edwards, 1958 and C. bishopi Edwards, 1958 are redescribed, the male of the former and the female of the latter not having been previously described.
