Gradual Learners' Assessment in Massive Open Online Courses Based on ODALA Approach

This article proposes a gradual assessment process combined with an adequate learner modelling based on ODALA approach that can be an effective add-on for massive open online course (MOOC) platforms and engineering. The proposed learner modelling includes five dimensions: general information, disciplinary cognitive state, learning styles, preferences and behavior. This article focuses on the cognitive state dimension that is based on an assessment pyramid with four levels: closed-ended questions, half-open questions, open-ended questions and problem situations. The assessment pyramid is the backbone of the learning process since it needs a gradual progression with an adequate methodology where various computer aided or completely automated evaluation activities are proposed. The transition from a level to another is a conditional one since there are minimal threshold of disciplinary knowledge acquisition. An evaluation prototype was tested with the algorithmic discipline and developed so as to access the feasibility of our proposition.

Background: the COVID-19 pandemic and the implemented restrictions have changed the functioning of healthcare systems worldwide. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the impact of the present epidemiological situation on patients’ decisions about undergoing weight loss surgery. Methods: data were collected from 906 bariatric patients by the means of a national online survey, the majority of whom were women (87.9%). The survey started on 9 April 2020 and was open until 28 April 2020. The questionnaire included multiple choice and open questions, divided into three chapters: general information about the patient, life during the COVID-19 pandemic, and bariatric care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: despite the pandemic and the associated risk of COVID-19 infection, 443 responders (48.9%) would have decided to undergo bariatric surgery. Awareness of the negative impact of obesity on the course of COVID-19 illness had only marginable impact on patients’ decision-making (76.6% vs. 75.3%; p < 0.80). Contact with COVID-19 prior to the survey had a negative impact on the willingness to undergo bariatric surgery (3.0% vs. 4.4%; p < 0.55). There was a positive correlation between the BMI and preference for bariatric surgery in the time of the pandemic (37.4 ± 9.0 vs. 34.9 ± 8.7; p < 0.001). Conclusions: the level of awareness about the advantages of operative treatment of obesity is high among bariatric patients. The majority of patients awaiting bariatric surgery at the moment of the survey were positive about undergoing bariatric surgery despite the increased risk of a serious course of COVID-19 infection. Therefore, a large proportion of patients was determined to have bariatric treatment even during the pandemic, being aware of the increased risk of worse pace of COVID-19 disease in case of obesity and related diseases.

This paper focuses on assessment process in implementing career guidance of talented children at school. The article provides general information on assessment activities in the field of career guidance. The main aim of this article is to describe main challenges in implementing in assessment tools, as well as informing children in time and motivating them in choosing good profession according to their interest and skills. The article presents different assessment methods and techniques in achieving students’ career planning. The types of assessment have been described with many techniques. Diagnostic, formative or ongoing and summative assessment approaches have been given for developing students’ professional career choice in their future planning. The present article intends to identify the levels of satisfaction of the Faculdade do Litoral Paranaense ISEPE, in order to assess the results in relation to the five Dimensions structured in the Self-assessment being the Tangible Dimensions of Confidence, Responsibility, Security and Empathy. With that it adapted the model SERVQUAL developed by Parasuraman, Zeithaml and Berry (2006) and with the scale of Likert establishing a structured questionnaire in order to establish a direct communication with the academics and users. The general objective of this work is to adapt this model to be used in the Institutional Self-Assessment process of the Faculdade do Litoral Paranaense - ISEPE Guaratuba, seeking to verify the feasibility of the use of these models. After the results obtained and analyzed during the research, it is necessary to appreciate the management of the Institution with the objective of improving the quality of the services provided by the Institution, which are included in the dimensions surveyed.

The article discusses the integrated process of learning mathematics at secondary school. The content of teaching mathematics must be arranged in such a way that the student develops an overall understanding of the world. The aim of the article is to emphasize the depth of comprehension of the content of the subject of the student’s interest, because based on the understanding of the content of the subject, new knowledge will be integrated and new skills will be developed that the student will be able to transfer to other subjects by solving problem situations. The topicality of the article is related to the integration approach, that the main focus is not to focus on the content of the subjects of mathematics and physics, but on the scientific processes that unite the contents of these subjects. Theoretical basis of the research is the system theory, which is based on the approach of learning cognition and constructivism. In the research, students' complex tests and questionnaires with open questions were used for data acquisition. The article uses a case study design to analyse data.

Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) seems to expand access to education and it present too many advantages as: democratization of learning, openness to all and accessibility on a large scale, etc. However, this new phenomenon of open learning suffers from the lack of personalization; it is not easy to identify learners’ characteristics because their heterogeneous masse. Following the increasing adoption of learning styles as personalization criteria, it is possible to make learning process easier for learners. In this paper, we extracted features from learners' traces when they interact with the MOOC platform in order to identify learning styles in an automatic way. For this purpose, we adopted the Felder-Silverman Learning Style Model (FSLSM) and used an unsupervised clustering method. Finally, this solution was implemented to clustered learners based on their level of preference for the sequential/global dimension of FSLSM. Results indicated that, first: k-means is the best performing algorithm when it comes to the identification of learning styles; second: the majority of learners show strong and moderate sequential learning style preferences.

The concept of "Learning Style Inventory" offered David Kolb is a concept for the assessment in detecting a person's learning style. The learning process is based on the experience of having 5 cycles. 5 of them can be used as a reference for the assessment. David Kolb has created 12 questions that can already be used as a reference in making this assessment. Question by David Kolb create an outline already refers to the cycle of learning from experience. After getting answers to 12 questions before, and then we do the calculation based on a formula created by David Kolb. The formula are consists of 4 score. The first score is CE (Concentrate Experience), then the second score is AE (Active Experimentation), then the third score is RO (Reflective Observation), and the final score is AC (Abstract conceptualization). The assessment process will do is add any weighting of each question and divided based on each option. Then we add up to 12 about the nominal weighting. Having obtained in total, we then perform the detection process of learning styles based on the concept of learning styles with the reference calculation by analysis David Kolb's learning style. The concept offered David Kolb has many implemented with a variety of versions, this time the writer will try to implement this concept to the programming language PHP along with  supporters other programming language. By implementing these concepts based on PHP, then the respondent can conduct the assessment process whenever and wherever

Abstract There is limited information about the current state of intermittent water supply (IWS) systems at the global level. A survey was carried out by the Intermittent Water Supply Specialist Group of the International Water Association (IWA IWS SG) to better understand the current state of these systems and challenges that water companies may have faced under COVID-19 pandemic and to capture successful management strategies applied by water utilities. The survey consisted of three parts: (1) general information about IWS systems, (2) current state of IWS and (3) resilience of IWS under COVID-19 conditions, as well as some questions about potential interventions in order to improve system performance in general and under future uncertain conditions. The survey responses were evaluated based on the Safe & SuRe resilience framework, assessing measures of mitigation, adaptation, coping and learning, and exploring organisational and operational responses of IWS utilities. Infrastructure capacity and water resources availability were identified as the main causes of intermittency in most water distribution systems, while intermittent electricity was considered as the main external cause. Participants indicated that some risk assessment process was in place; however, COVID-19 has surpassed any provisions made to address the risks. Lessons learnt highlighted the importance of financial resources, e-infrastructure for efficient system operation and communication with consumers, and the critical role of international knowledge transfer and the sharing of best practice guidelines for improving resilience and transitioning towards continuous water supply.

To explore the present status of Critical thinking and its relevant factors among undergraduates.A stratified random sampling was used to select 1013 undergraduates from 7 full-time colleges in Guangdong province. They were investigated with California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version (CTDI-CV) and a Self-Compiled Personal General Information Questionnaire. ⑴ The total score of CTDI-CV was (254.16±38.80). The undergraduates in the four levels of critical thinking of comprehensive strong, relatively strong, contradictory scope and serious opposition accounted for 1.78%, 5.31%, 87.4% and 5.51% of this group, respectively. (2) Multiple stepwise linear regression showed that the total score of CTDI-CV was positively correlated with the following 10 factors such as grade, family economic status, part-time experience, the teaching method used most commonly, like reading logic books, like reading reviews or essays, father’s warmth, mother’s warmth, openness and responsibility (β=.142 to .701,all P<.05). The following 5 factors such as father’s negation, father’s overprotection, mother’s negation, mother’s overprotection and neuroticism were negatively correlated with the total score of CTDI-CV (β=-.381 to -. 616, all P < 0.05). The overall level of critical thinking among undergraduates is relatively low. College Students' critical thinking may be related to many factors such as family rearing, school education and personal characteristics.

During recent years, the notion of pedagogical support is very widespread. Learners who encounter difficulties during their learning process use the pedagogical support to overcome these difficulties. Even learners who don't have any difficulty or are in full academic success use it to increase their grades and/or to provide for important competitions and exams. Several kinds of research reveal that the major problem of the adaptation into e-learning systems is due to the fact that the accent is put mainly on the technological tools to the detriment of the pedagogical aspect. In this chapter, authors present a model of an online pedagogical support based on a combination of different pedagogical approaches that marked the teaching-learning process in recent decades to present an efficient assessment which allow to diagnose learners' cognitive state and to offer adapted remediation according to the two main facets of a learner model, which are the cognitive state and the learning styles.
