This paper for the 20th anniversary issue of the Journal of Global Information Management (JGIM) looks back on the last ten years of research on two related areas highlighted in Tan and Gallupe’s (1999) manifesto for research on global information management in the decade ahead: global enterprise management and global management of information resources. In particular, the paper examines the relationship between the structure and governance of multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the structure and governance of IT resources in MNEs. Early IS research hypothesized alignment between enterprise organization structure and the structure of the IT function in high-performing organizations. However, research on “structure” in both MNEs and IT resources shifted to the concept of “governance”. This paper argues that IT organization design (structure and governance in combination) should be the focus of future research on IT resources management in MNEs. In addition, the paper argues that the relationship between MNE design and IT resources management is a critical topic. The paper examines three relationships among these two concepts: the contingency theory argument that IT resources management should follow and be aligned with MNE organization design, the universalistic argument that there is one best way to organize IT resources in MNEs, and the co-evolutionary argument that IT enterprise resources management design can lead, as well as follow, MNE organization design.

This study assesses the past decade in the GIM domain, based on Journal of Global Information Management (JGIM) research findings. Based on the issues addressed by these articles, the authors develop 11 topical categories and discuss each in terms of the accumulation of knowledge contributed by these findings. The authors also discuss for each topic possible extension and further understanding based on related research in international business. In consideration of the topics of these articles, a large number simultaneously addressing multiple topics and potential of explicitly linking these topics in future research are discussed. Additionally, the authors update prior quantitative analysis considering JGIM citations of key international business scholars, evolution of research methods, and levels of scope and analysis in these articles. Finally, the authors indicate gaps in the body of research within categories, when categories are considered in relationships, and when looking further from the perspective of recent IB research.

Vaccination is nowadays the most used option to stem the covid-19 pandemic. The global impact of the pandemic has triggered an unprecedented frenzy for research axis related to COVID-19 vaccine. Since 2019, the volume of publications related to COVID-19 vaccines has swollen significantly. In this very dynamic context, it can be difficult to quickly access the state and orientations of the researches. Thus, the goal of this paper is to provide a quick, fast comprehensive science mapping of these researches through an information management bibliometric approach. We extracted 8 246 publications (up to July 08th 2021) related to COVID-19 and vaccination from a world-leading publisher-independent global citation database (Scopus). The Bibliometrix package was then used to perform a bibliometric review of all these documents. The most important connections between the main themes, publications, authors, institutions, countries, collaborations, and journals are being highlighted. Main implications for the Information System along with some future research directions are also presented.

Research in the field of global information management (GIM) is an area of information systems research that has grown tremendously in the 1990s. A large number of research studies have been published that have examined issues relating to the development, use and management of information systems in a global context. In an attempt to better understand the types of research that has been conducted, the research methodologies employed and the emerging research themes being addressed in the field, an in-depth study of the GIM literature was conducted. This chapter reports on one aspect of this wider study – emerging GIM research themes. The purpose of this chapter is to identify the themes distinct to GIM research that are emerging from the literature with the aim of highlighting potential areas of future research in the field.

Abstract. Background: Previous research has demonstrated an association between alcohol-related problems and suicidal ideation (SI). Aims: The present study evaluated, simultaneously, alcohol consequences and symptoms of alcohol dependence as predictors of SI after adjusting for depressive symptoms and alcohol consumption. Method: A sample of 298 Alaskan undergraduates completed survey measures, including the Young Adult Alcohol Consequences Questionnaire, the Short Alcohol Dependence Data Questionnaire, and the Beck Depression Inventory – II. The association between alcohol problems and SI status was evaluated using sequential logistic regression. Results: Symptoms of alcohol dependence (OR = 1.88, p < .05), but not alcohol-related consequences (OR = 1.01, p = .95), emerged as an independent predictor of SI status above and beyond depressive symptoms (OR = 2.39, p < .001) and alcohol consumption (OR = 1.08, p = .39). Conclusion: Alcohol dependence symptoms represented a unique risk for SI relative to alcohol-related consequences and alcohol consumption. Future research should examine the causal mechanism behind the relationship between alcohol dependence and suicidality among university students. Assessing the presence of dependence symptoms may improve the accuracy of identifying students at risk of SI.

Abstract. Recently, Garfinkel and Critchley (2013) proposed to distinguish between three facets of interoception: interoceptive sensibility, interoceptive accuracy, and interoceptive awareness. This pilot study investigated how these facets interrelate to each other and whether interoceptive awareness is related to the metacognitive awareness of memory performance. A sample of 24 healthy students completed a heartbeat perception task (HPT) and a memory task. Judgments of confidence were requested for each task. Participants filled in questionnaires assessing interoceptive sensibility, depression, anxiety, and socio-demographic characteristics. The three facets of interoception were found to be uncorrelated and interoceptive awareness was not related to metacognitive awareness of memory performance. Whereas memory performance was significantly related to metamemory awareness, interoceptive accuracy (HPT) and interoceptive awareness were not correlated. Results suggest that future research on interoception should assess all facets of interoception in order to capture the multifaceted quality of the construct.

Abstract. The present study proposed that, unlike prior leader–member exchange (LMX) research which often implicitly assumed that each leader develops equal-quality relationships with their supervisors (leader’s LMX; LLX), every leader develops different relationships with their supervisors and, in turn, receive different amounts of resources. Moreover, these differentiated relationships with superiors will influence how leader–member relationship quality affects team members’ voice and creativity. We adopted a multi-temporal (three wave) and multi-source (leaders and employees) research design. Hypotheses were tested on a sample of 227 bank employees working in 52 departments. Results of the hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) analysis showed that LLX moderates the relationship between LMX and team members’ voice behavior and creative performance. Strengths, limitations, practical implications, and directions for future research are discussed.
