In this paper, an integrated simulation optimization model for the inventory system is developed. An effective algorithm is developed to evaluate and analyze the back-end stored simulation results. This paper proposes simulation tool SIMIN (Inventory Simulation) to simulate inventory models. SIMIN is a tool which simulates and compares the results of different inventory models. To overcome various practical restrictive assumptions, SIMIN provides values for a number of performance measurements. This tool is programmed in JAVA and is based on analytical approach to guide optimization strategy. Objective of this paper is to provide a user friendly simulation tool which gives optimized inventory model results. Simulation is carried out by providing the required values of input parameters and result is stored in the database for further comparison and study. Result is obtained in terms of the performance measurements of classical models of inventory system. Simulation results are stored in excel file and it also provides graphical results to compare the outcome. This simulation tool is interfaced with an optimization procedure based on classical models of inventory system. With the specified examples, the simulation results are obtained and analyzed rigorously. The result shows that input parameters, total system costs and capacity should be considered in the design of a practical system.

A need exists for tools to improve evaluations of the economics of landfill gas recovery. A computer simulation tool is presented. It uses a spreadsheet computer program to calculate the economics for a fixed set of inputs, and a simulation program to consider variations in the inputs. The method calculates the methane generated each year, and estimates the costs and incomes associated with the recovery and sale of the gas. Base case results are presented for a city of 500,000. An uncertainty analysis for a hypothetical case is presented. The simulation results can help an analyst see the key variables affecting the economics of a project.

Abstract. A cross-regional multi-site inventory system with independent Poisson demand and continuous review (S-1,S) policy, in which there is bidirectional transshipment between the locations at the same area, and unidirectional transshipment between the locations at the different area. According to the M/G/S/S queue theory, birth and death process model and approximate calculation policy, we established inventory models respectively for the loss sales case and backorder case, and designed corresponding procedures to solve them. Finally, we verify the effectiveness of proposed models and methods by means of a lot of contrast experiments.

The popularity of the Power Line Communication (PLC) system has decreased due to significant deficiencies in the technology itself, even though new wire installation is not required. In particular, regarding the request for high-speed throughput to fulfill smart-grid requirements, Broadband Power Line (BPLC) can be considered. This paper approaches PLC technology as an object of simulation experimentation in the Broadband Power Line Communication (BPLC) area. Several experimental measurements in a real environment are also given. This paper demonstrates these experimental simulation results as potential mechanisms for creating a complex simulation tool for various PLC technologies focusing on communication with end devices such as sensors and meters. The aim is to demonstrate the potential and limits of BPLC technology for implementation in Smart Grids or Smart Metering applications.

AbstractMachine learning offers the potential to revolutionize the inverse design of complex nanophotonic components. Here, we propose a novel variant of this formalism specifically suited for the design of resonant nanophotonic components. Typically, the first step of an inverse design process based on machine learning is training a neural network to approximate the non-linear mapping from a set of input parameters to a given optical system’s features. The second step starts from the desired features, e.g. a transmission spectrum, and propagates back through the trained network to find the optimal input parameters. For resonant systems, this second step corresponds to a gradient descent in a highly oscillatory loss landscape. As a result, the algorithm often converges into a local minimum. We significantly improve this method’s efficiency by adding the Fourier transform of the desired spectrum to the optimization procedure. We demonstrate our method by retrieving the optimal design parameters for desired transmission and reflection spectra of Fabry–Pérot resonators and Bragg reflectors, two canonical optical components whose functionality is based on wave interference. Our results can be extended to the optimization of more complex nanophotonic components interacting with structured incident fields.

In this paper, a hybrid numerical simulation tool is introduced and performed for GaInN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with metal-embedded nanostructure to theoretically predict external quantum efficiency (EQE), which composed of finite-difference time-domain, rigorous coupled wave analysis, and ray tracing. The advantage is that the proposed method provides results supported by sufficient physical background within a reasonable calculation time. From the simulation results, the EQE of LED with Ag-nanoparticles embedded nanostructure is expected to be enhanced by as high as ∼1.6 times the conventional LED device in theory.

This paper deals with the basic insight of thermoacoustic refrigeration concepts, and the working principle, history and the role of linear thermoacoustic theory in designing a thermoacoustic refrigerator system are discussed. Resonator design optimization procedure for a 10W cooling power thermoacoustic refrigerators is discussed. The optimized resonator designs proposed in this paper are found to be efficient compared to published resonator designs. The effects of drive ratio on the theoretical performance by varying dynamic pressure amplitude from 0.2 bar to 0.4 bar in the steps of 0.05 bar on the optimized resonator designs are discussed. Performance simulation results for the optimized resonator designs using DeltaEC software are discussed. Simulation results are in agreement with theoretical results.
