Predictors of Nigeria's Premier University Undergraduate Students' Online Shopping Adoption

Online shopping is one of the dividends of the Internet technology. Online shops give shoppers the privilege of getting some benefits that cannot be offered in a physical store. Despite this, many potential customers have not embraced the technology, due to varying factors. The present article adapts the Theory of Reasoned Action and Technology Acceptance Model to investigate factors affecting the adoption of online shopping by Nigerian undergraduate students, using the University of Ibadan as a case study. Employing the quantitative research approach with survey method, it was discovered that a perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness significantly influence students' attitude to online shopping. Attitude, trust and subjective norm were found to influence behavioural intention to adopt online shopping, which in turn affects students' adoption of online shopping.

In today’s world, interests of mobile devices for educational processes anytime and anywhere has been on the rise. However, adoption of this new technology by students is complicated. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that influence the adoption of M-learning by students and to propose an appropriate model for its adoption. Three external variables, namely Perceived Mobility Value, Prior Use of Electronic Learning and Self-efficacy, were incorporated into the Technology Acceptance Model and tested in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Quantitative research approach was used to survey 350 students. Empirical data from multiple regression analyses indicates that Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of use, Perceived Mobility Value, Prior Use of Electronic Learning, Self-efficacy, and Attitude toward using, can positively affect the adoption of M-learning. Results are explored further in this study

Purpose of the Study: This study examines the evaluation of Automatic Lane Barriers (ALB) system implementation on the campus community. The objectives of this study are to identify the differences between male and female on their evaluations towards the ALB system; and to determine the differences between staff and student on their attitude, behaviour, perceived usefulness (PU), and perceived ease of use (PEU) towards the ALB system. Methodology: This study applies the quantitative research design using the survey method where self-administered questionnaires are used as the instrument for data collection. A total of 271 respondents participated in this study. Main Findings: The findings show that, on the whole, campus community have a positive evaluation pertaining to perceived usefulness of the ALB system implementation only. There is no significant difference between male and female respondents on all variables while there are significant differences between staff and student towards the ALB system for all variables concerned. Applications of this Study: This study adapted the items in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to a newly implemented Automatic Lane Barriers (ALB) installation to differentiate the acceptance of ALB system according to gender and designation. The main reason for such implementation is to increase security and safety measures for the campus community. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This study is done immediately after the ALB is enforced. Thus, the findings act as the benchmark for the acceptance of any new innovation for the campus community in the future.

<p><em>Internet in Indonesia has a very diverse usage in various aspects of life. One of them is that it can be used in economic transaction that is buying and selling online or better known as e-commerce (electronic commerce). This study aims to factors are perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived risk, attitude toward using, and behavioral intention.</em></p><p><em>This research was conducted in Kalimantan. The samples of the research were determined using non-probability sampling method in the form of purposive sampling with the requirements: the samples were at least 18 years of age and they had made purchases of goods or services through online shopping site of B2C e-commerce at least twice. The research method used was survey method through primary data collection by distributing online questionnaires through Google Docs. Data analysis was done by SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) with AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structure) 21.0 software.</em></p><p><em>The result showed that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use had positive and significant effect on attitude toward using. However, perceived risk did not have a negative and insignificant effect on attitude toward using. Perceived ease of use had a positive and significant effect on perceived usefulness. Perceived usefulness and attitude toward using positively and significantly influenced the behavioral intention of online shopping in Kalimantan. Perceived ease of use was the most dominant variable giving a direct influence on perceived usefulness, perceived usefulness gave the most dominant indirect influence on behavioral intention.</em></p>

<p class="3">This study investigated undergraduate students’ intention to use wiki technology. An extension of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been used by taking into account not only students’ wiki perceived utility and usability, but also Big Five personality characteristics and two other variables, social norms, and facilitating conditions, as proposed in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Students’ beliefs before (pre-wiki scenario) and after (post-wiki scenario) the actual use of the wiki system were investigated, with 85 and 86 participants respectively. The hypotheses were tested using partial least squares analysis. For the pre-wiki scenario, 8/15 hypotheses were confirmed and 11/15 for the post-wiki scenario. The relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness was found to be of the highest magnitude. The most notable difference across the two scenarios was that the relation between perceived ease of use and attitudes towards use was significant only in the first scenario. The results demonstrate that the proposed TAM-extended model could predict students’ wiki acceptance.</p>

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to adapt the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to predict the use and intended use of e-learning systems among undergraduate students at a state university in Ecuador, with the intention of improving the understanding of those factors that could enhance the utilization of these systems and the implementation of policies to increase the benefits they bring to the process of teaching and learning.Design/methodology: The analysis has epistemological basis on the empirical-inductive, based on observation of perception. Based on the literature review on the evaluation and acceptance of e-learning systems, the model has been adapted to the case of Ecuador and a questionnaire with 52 items based on Likert scales was developed. The instrument was emailed to 600 undergraduate students from a state university in Ecuador, being 423 of them answered satisfactorily. We performed validity and reliability tests of structural equation model by partial least squares (PLS), with the support of statistical software SmartPLS.Contributions and results: The results indicate that all the hypotheses of TAM are met in the Ecuadorian context, when assessing the acceptance of e-learning systems among undergraduate students at a state university. The main contribution was to identify that the perceived enjoyment, social influence and computer self-efficacy have a direct effect on the two main constructs of TAM, perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU). It was also found that satisfaction (S) is highly influenced by PU and S influences the use of e-learning systems, being the first a specific contribution of this study. Technical support showed no influence on the fundamental constructs of TAM.Limitations: The research was conducted to undergraduate students in one state Category B university of Ecuador, being the reality of this country more complex, as there are four categories with different characteristics. We haven’t considered neither age, gender, graduate students nor socioeconomic status, among other student characteristics that may affect the investigation.Practical implications: Identifying the factors that influence the acceptance and use of e-learning systems will help to create and improve teaching and learning environments for undergraduate students. Allowing exploiting the benefits of these technological tools more efficiently, adapting them to management policies of the institutions of higher education.Originality/value: This paper presents empirical data on the use and acceptance of e-learning systems for undergraduate students of a particular university in Ecuador. No similar studies are evident in the country and the model can be considered for future studies of national scope.

Several studies extended the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by examining the antecedents of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use; the present study looks at demographic aspect of external variables in virtual library use among undergraduate students. The purpose of this study is to identify the demographic factors sex, level of study, cumulative grade point average, and computer knowledge that act as external factors that are antecedents of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The university management makes a large investment in the provision of a virtual library; investigation of the virtual library acceptance by students is important. TAM and theory of reasoned action (TRA) are utilised to theoretically test a model for the extension and to predict virtual library acceptance and usage. In a survey study, data was collected by using a structured questionnaire given to 394 randomly selected participants in a private university. Data were analysed by Pearson product moment correlation, multiple and hierarchical regression. The result of the study is consistent with TAM factors examined for explaining virtual library usage. The extension model accounts for 2.5% variance in perceived usefulness, 2.1% in perceived ease of use, 11.7% - 15.2% on intention to use and 7.2% on actual use of virtual library. Implications of the findings of the study on user’s virtual library training are discussed.

While a considerable body of research has focused on learners’ acceptance of or resistance to mobile technologies, fewer studies have focused on teachers. This research study aimed to understand the factors influencing South African teachers’ acceptance of or resistance to using mobile technologies in their classroom practice. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used as a lens to explore factors that enhance mobile technology acceptance. The study consisted of a sequential mixed method, action research approach. Fifteen participants received training at a Mobile Technology workshop, aiming to provide professional development and enhance technological literacy knowledge and skills for teachers. The participants were then tasked to teach with technology and to share and reflect on their experiences and perceptions during the community of practice meetings. Content analysis was used to analyse the transcripts of these meetings and this led to the identification of 2 key factors, which enhanced the teachers’ acceptance of mobile technology, namely, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Six sub-factors affecting acceptance were also identified: anxiety, ability, attitude, facilitating conditions, subjective norm and voluntariness. The factors that were identified suggest that additional professional development, infrastructure and resources need to be provided for teachers. We argue that by providing these necessities and eliminating or significantly reducing these factors, the use of mobile technology will be a success.


In recent years, there has been a growing increase in using Learning Management System (LMS) by universities. However, its utilization by students is limited in Malaysia. The main purpose of the present study is to develop and test a model that predicts LMS utilization by Malaysian higher education students. Based on the Technology Acceptance Model, the study investigated the relationships among six constructs (system interactivity, technical support, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, behavioral intention to use and LMS use) through structural equation modelling. The participants were 216 undergraduate students from a local university in Malaysia. The result of the study revealed that system interactivity had a significant effect on perceived usefulness, but not on perceived ease of use; technical support had a significant effect on perceived ease of use, but not on perceived usefulness.

This empirical study aims to examine the factors that Online Shopping Users exhibit which can be used to help the online shopping platforms further work on their online presence in order to make sure that all potential users stay on their platforms and most of all, are content using their platforms. Personality, Web Experiences, Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Attitude were used to determine how these factors affect Online Shoppers. A survey (Google Forms) was distributed via social media and social messengers which comprised of virtually infinite respondents. The results showed that most of our respondents are not akin to finding the perceived usability or perceived ease of use of online shopping irrespective they have a certain online leadership style, or are impulsive buyers, and are also not deterred even if they are satisfied with a website or are security conscious. But if they end up finding an online system useful and user-friendly, they will definitely intend to come back to the online portal again for future purchases. This research was conducted inside Pakistan comprising respondents distributed in different cities due to the questionnaire being circulated via online mediums. Future researchers can employ the same model to conduct the same research in another country. This study proposes a framework to quantitatively analyzing the link between different aspects of Personality and different aspects of Web Experiences with Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use, and furthermore the Attitude of the respondents towards Online Shopping Platforms.

The aim of this study is to examine the factors affecting students' intention to use cloud computing in the Jordanian universities. To achieve this purpose, a quantitative research approach which is a survey-based was deployed. Around 400 questionnaires were distributed randomly to Information Technology (IT) students at four universities in Jordan and only 236 valid questionnaires were received. Using multiple regression technique, the results revealed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived security, perceived speed of access, and perceived cost of usage were significantly influencing the students' intention to accept and use cloud computing while the Affect was not. Furthermore, the results indicated that the developed model explains 50.4% of the variance in the students' intention to use cloud computing. Practically, the results of this study are considered fruitful for the universities and students to increase the usage of cloud computing in the educational settings.
