Rural Education as a Service: Leveraging Cloud Computing for Empowering Rural Youth

Cloud computing has been the newest paradigm computing that provides many advantages to users. Due to the advantages of the cloud computing many users are moving their systems and applications to it while new cloud based applications are emerging on a daily basis. Though the urban population can access and benefit from all the modern technologies, the rural population is generally left out of it as they are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty. The only way to get them out from their problems is to empower them with new knowledge and skills. The traditional methods including ICT based education delivery methods have faced several hurdles in achieving their objectives. In this paper, the author takes an in-depth look at how cloud computing can be leveraged to deliver rural education programmes more efficiently and effectively. The Rural Education as a Service presented in this paper has many advantages and can easily overcome the problems faced by other methods. The paper also presents the RuralEaaS delivery model and network architecture that can be used to implement it.

Cloud Computing promises novel and valuable capabilities for computer users and is explored in all possible areas of information technology dependant fields. However, the literature suffers from hype and divergent definitions and viewpoints. Cloud powered higher education can gain significant flexibility and agility. Higher education policy makers must assume activist roles in the shift towards cloud computing. Classroom experiences show it is a better tool for teaching and collaboration. As it is an emerging service technology, there is a need for standardization of services and customized implementation. Its evolution can change the facets of rural education. It is important as a possible means of driving down the capital and total costs of IT. This paper examines and discusses the concept of Cloud Computing from the perspectives of diverse technologists, cloud standards, services available today, the status of cloud particularly in higher education, and future implications.

This article describes how as network traffic grows, attacks on traffic become more complicated and harder to detect. Recently, researchers have begun to explore machine learning techniques with cloud computing technologies to classify network threats. So, new and creative ways are needed to enhance intrusion detection system. This article addresses the source of the above issues through detecting an intrusion in cloud computing before it further disrupts normal network operations, because the complexity of malicious attack techniques have evolved from traditional malicious attack technologies (direct malicious attack), which include different malicious attack classes, such as DoS, Probe, R2L, and U2R malicious attacks, especially the zero-day attack in online mode. The proposed online intrusion detection cloud system (OIDCS) adopts the principles of the new spiking neural network architecture called NeuCube algorithm. It is proposed that this system is the first filtering system approach that utilizes the NeuCube algorithm. The OIDCS inherits the hybrid (supervised/unsupervised) learning feature of the NeuCube algorithm and uses this algorithm in an online system with lifelong learning to classify input while learning the system. The system is accurate, especially when working with a zero-day attack, reaching approximately 97% accuracy based on the to-be-remembered (TBR) encoding algorithm.

The fifth generation of wireless networks (5G) will kick off with evolved mobile broadband services as promised by several mobile-related associations, researchers, and operators. Compared to 4G, 5G aims to provide greater data rates with lower latency and higher coverage to numerous users who stream ubiquitous multimedia services. 5G benefits the innovation of internet of things (IoT) as well. To this end, several modifications in the network architecture are required. This chapter is discussing the role of cloud computing centers in 5G networks, and how such integration could be implemented as found in the literature. The benefits of cloud/5G integration will be explained as well. In addition, some challenges related to the integration will be demonstrated.

Fog-computing is a new network architecture and computing paradigm that uses user or near-users devices (network edge) to carry out some processing tasks. Accordingly, it extends the cloud computing with more flexibility the one found in the ubiquitous networks. A smart city based on the concept of fog-computing with flexible hierarchy is proposed in this paper. The aim of the proposed design is to overcome the limitations of the previous approaches, which depends on using various network architectures, such as cloud-computing, autonomic network architecture and ubiquitous network architecture. Accordingly, the proposed approach achieves a reduction of the latency of data processing and transmission with enabled real-time applications, distribute the processing tasks over edge devices in order to reduce the cost of data processing and allow collaborative data exchange among the applications of the smart city. The design is made up of five major layers, which can be increased or merged according to the amount of data processing and transmission in each application. The involved layers are connection layer, real-time processing layer, neighborhood linking layer, main-processing layer, data server layer. A case study of a novel smart public car parking, traveling and direction advisor is implemented using IFogSim and the results showed that reduce the delay of real-time application significantly, reduce the cost and network usage compared to the cloud-computing paradigm. Moreover, the proposed approach, although, it increases the scalability and reliability of the users’ access, it does not sacrifice much time, nor cost and network usage compared to fixed fog-computing design.

Changes in geopolitical and geo-strategic regional and global whirlwinds have forced states to rethink and re-conceptualize their functions and positions. Mutual economic-political and strategic importance propels them to form new alliances and sign new pacts and protocols. New ways of global and inter-regional economic cooperation and exchange in the contemporary world have acquired the centrality at the international relations level. The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a joint Sino-Pak initiative, has become the flagship inter-regional connectivity and integration project. The CPEC would connect the regions in order to encourage regional and inter-regional trade and trade cooperation, which would improve the economic activities that would become useful in sealing off the vicious cycle of poverty. Some regional and non-regional states have, however, expressed their reservations about CPEC.
