This article proposes an integrated information fusion approach in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) based on the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory, which includes four main aspects: the construction of basic probability assignment; a novel reliability coefficient function converting similarity to initial weight factors; an improved fusion approach by reassigning reliability coefficients; and the “Discount Rule.” Utilizing the integrated approach, conflicting data are fused more accurately and effectively than using the traditional fusion method. Experimental results show that the combined belief assignment of the proposed approach is in accordance with the real data observations. The integrated information combination rule for combining conflicting data can avoid the influence of imprecise information from sensors, and has the better performance than other conventional methods.

In Wireless Sensor Networks, no physical backbone infrastructure used while all sensor nodes are energy constrained and impractical to recharge. The behavior of networks becomes unstable once the first node dies. The key challenge in such networks is how to reduce energy consumption to increase the network lifetime, especially with the different amount of energy in heterogeneity environments.

In this paper, the virtual backbone routing solution is suggested to reduce energy consumption in a wireless sensor network. An integrated approach combines both advantages of hierarchical cluster-based architecture and shortest spanning tree topology for constructing a virtual backbone with a mobile sink. The clustering solution is used to divide the network into clusters and reduces the number of nodes included in the communication. On the other hand, the shortest spanning tree technique is used to construct a backbone among all cluster heads and mobile sink every time the sink traverses to a new location. The proposed approach aims to construct an efficient data aggregation spanning tree used to send or receive data between the mobile sink and elected cluster heads in wireless sensor networks. It constructs an efficient virtual backbone to decrease the energy consumption and prolong the lifetime of the network.
Performance evaluation results demonstrate how the proposed approach prolongs the lifetime of wireless sensor networks compared to some conventional clustering protocols.

The best service mechanism in multimedia wireless sensor networks can be achieved based on the multimedia traffic flow by developing a proper simulation algorithm process model, to be a trustable indication for real implementations, which is proposed in this article, together with the algorithm model outcome analysis. The quality estimation of the proposed mechanism is investigated by simulating real data transmission and obtaining the integral criterion of the processed mechanism, to determine the queue formation and loading control. Accordingly, it was proved that the first-in first-out algorithm is not useful as a flow algorithm; however, it is regarded as suitable to be considered as the benchmark algorithm when compared with the other algorithms such as priority queue, custom queue, fair queuing, and weighted fair queuing algorithms. Finally, each algorithm’s advantages and disadvantages were verified and the best usage conditions according to certain parameters, such as packet loss probability, average time delay, and jitter, were declared.

This article describes an approach to revelation of anomalies for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). It is based on the integration of visual data analysis techniques and data mining techniques. Feasibility of the approach has been confirmed on a demo case for WSN water management scenario. For verification we developed a software/hardware prototype of the network and a software model to generate the necessary data sets for the establishment of detection models and their investigation. The experiments carried out have shown a high quality of detection, which shows the applicability of the integrated approach to revelation of anomalies for use in practical cases.
