Five Drivers of Eco-Innovation

Today, firms are faced with a number of environmental challenges such as pollution, scarcity of natural resources, global warming a growing demand for environmentally friendly products. Complexity of sustainability issues in operations management leads this study to determine a parsimonious model of eco-innovation. Most of the research findings have emphasized the effect of innovation on company's economic benefits. However, there are inadequate studies in respect to eco-innovation and its impact to business and environmental sustainability. This paper focuses on determinants of drivers of eco-innovation and its outcome on sustainable business performance. Content analysis is used in order to explain the phenomena of eco-innovation in operations management and categorize the determinants of drivers. The unit of analysis of this study is driver or factor of eco-innovation which are commonly found in entire articles reviewed. The scope of review encompassed articles published between the years 1994 to 2012. Results indicate that a parsimonious model of eco-innovation consists of five drivers. More comprehensive and robust findings could be obtained by testing this model and broadening the scope of study.

The change in CSR is not only a matter of fulfilling the obligation of the Limited Liability Company Law, but also the issue of CSR that becomes a matter of justice and natural balance. The Word Commission on Environment requires every company in business activity to always consider the principles of sustainable development that rely on economic benefits (profit), environmental sustainability (planet) and social welfare (people). This study uses qualitative methods, with data collection methods through observation, interview, and documentation study. While the analysis used is descriptive qualitative analysis. According to research findings; the first is CSR programs in Azana Hotel Group includes; education, empowerment of the poor and save the environment. Second, from the implementation of CSR, Azana Hotel Management realized the important role of local communities in hotel operation towards the society, which in turn will bring huge profits to the company. Third, the implementation of environmental program in the form of greening on critical lands can actually educate and manage the employees, hotel guests, and society. So, it can increase the awareness of the importance of a sustainable natural environment. Fourth, ethically, the Azana Hotel Group CSR can regulate the behavior of people or groups of people in the company to be sustainable living. Ethics could be understood as moral principles and values that govern the behavior of people or groups related to what is right or wrong.

This chapter introduces the Green IT Balanced Scorecard by incorporating an environmental aspect of technology into the scorecard measurement method. The authors conceptualized the Green IT balanced scorecard as “a nomological management tool to systematically align IT strategy with business strategy from an environmental sustainability perspective in order to achieve competitive advantage.” The objectives of the Green IT balanced scorecard include the measurement of technology performance via the effective integration of environmental aspects, the investigation of both tangible and intangible assets of Green IT investment, the alignment of IT performance and business performance, and the transformation of the results into competitive advantage. This concept offers a new possibility for both practitioners and researchers to translate their sustainable business strategies into Green IT actions.

The hotel industry is one of the sectors that largely increases the environmental burden. Therefore, due to the large number of environmental problems faced by the hotel industry, there is a growing force for the companies and their stakeholders to respond correctly to environmental concerns and to introduce sustainable business practices such as the adoption of green practices. This study used a research model to explore the relationship between green HRM practices in the Egyptian hotels. Structural equation modelling was utilised to analyse data collected from 910 hotels. The research findings revealed that green recruiting and selection, green training and development, and green compensation have a meaningful sustainable performance relationship. The study provides hotel managers with meaningful implications on how to use GHRM in improving their business performance.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationships between operations capability, productivity, and business performance in the context of environmental dynamism. Design/methodology/approach A proposed conceptual framework grounded in the resource-based view (RBV) and dynamic capability view (DCV) is analyzed using archival data from 193 automakers in the UK. Findings The results show that operations capability, as an important dynamic capability, has a significant positive effect on productivity, which in turn leads to improved business performance. The results also suggest that productivity fully mediates the relationship between operations capability and business performance, and that environmental dynamism significantly moderates the relationship between operations capability and productivity. Practical implications The research findings provide practical insights that will help managers develop operations capability to gain greater productivity and business performance in a dynamic environment. Originality/value Addressing the two important issues of moderation (i.e. environmental dynamism) and mediation (i.e. productivity), this study makes important contributions to the field of operations management by applying the RBV and DCV.

This chapter discusses green human resources (HR) and its impact on sustainable business solutions. It embraces work area research and writing audit way to discover the connection between green HR and sustainable business performance. This chapter examines the influence of human resources (HR) as a fundamental capacity in an organisation. The role of HR in the organisation has moved beyond focusing on realising organisational objective but into the integration of corporate strategy with environmental sustainability through environmentally friendly practice. The study explores instrumental theory, which focuses on both shareholder and stakeholders' interests of an organisation. Therefore, organisations need to align its operational objectives with environmental sustainability objectives through effective green HR practices to achieve sustainable business solutions.

This study aims to identify the causal attributes of sustainable agritourism in Thailand. Agritourism is a systematic approach based on farm diversification for tourism purposes. Agritourism is usually assessed with qualitative information. However, the assessment of agritourism attributes involves considering the interrelationships among the attributes. Prior studies on sustainable agritourism do not identify and address interrelated attributes using qualitative information. This study applies the Delphi method to identify a set of valid attributes. Moreover, this study applies triangular fuzzy numbers to transform the qualitative information into comparable values and uses a decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory to identify the interrelationships among the attributes in the causal model. The results show that sustainable business performance and rural economic conditions are the key drivers of environmental sustainability. This result suggests that the attributes that may potentially stimulate sustainable agritourism are the development and implementation of an agritourism-specific plan, the development of a local business value chain, and government-led tourism promotion.
